Who is Isacco?
Talking to Diwida |.co.ke, the Afrobeat and Afro Dancehall artist, famous for tracks like "On S'amuse," mentioned that he resided in Kenya for numerous years prior to relocating to France for his studies.
I've been staying with relatives, and recently obtained my French passport in 2024.
Isaac confessed to longing for chapatis and sukuma wiki, and mentioned his intention to return home to complete the album.
I am excited about visiting the places where I spent my childhood. The local cuisine really makes me homesick, and I can't wait to indulge in countless chapatis upon my return. It’s quite challenging to find authentic Kenyan dishes around here.
I'm also engaging with promoters to organize shows in Kenya."
Reflecting on his musical path, Isacco mentioned he began making music in 2012 as part of a collective known as IC-KS.
Nevertheless, we went our separate ways to chase distinct aspirations.
Isaac, who aims to present African music to a global audience, mentioned that one of the significant hurdles in pursuing music in Europe is the substantial expense involved.
"The cost of producing an audio track is similar to that of creating a whole album in Kenya. However, due to advancements in technology, I am able to collaborate with African studios from afar," he explained.
The artist also mentioned that there were limited opportunities for promoting African music in Europe.
Isaac, the recipient of the Nshuti Award for Best Male Diaspora Artist, mentioned that he is currently working on his sophomore album, which has been significantly shaped by his time in Kenya.
The album is nearing completion and consists of 12 tracks, including two collaborative pieces featuring Kenyan artists. A solo track from this collection will be released soon, and I am hopeful that my audience will appreciate it since I invested all my emotions into it.
Isaac also mentioned that in one of his songs, he expresses gratitude to the Kenyans who supported and assisted him in becoming the person he is today.
What insights can artists from Africa gain from their European peers?
Spreading their music globally. It’s essential for us to showcase our creativity worldwide, much like how Afrobeat musicians have done.
Nevertheless, we are well-placed since I observe Kenyan artists and performers from various African countries appearing at European concerts nearly every month."
