Hyderabad ( Telangana ) [ India ], May 5 ( ANI ): Unyielding rain In Hyderabad, SRH's prospects of making it to the playoffs in the 2025 IPL were dashed following the rain-affected match on Monday.

The 55th match of the 18th season of the lucrative cricket league featuring the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium had to be abandoned because the playing field became damp.

Shortly after the Delhi Capitals finished their innings, rain started pouring heavily, with some drizzle preceding it.

IPL announced via X that the game was canceled. "The Match 55 between @SunRisers and @DelhiCapitals has been postponed because of the waterlogged outfield. Each team will receive one point."

Consequently, each team ended up with a single point. Hyderabad required two points to maintain their chances of making the playoffs. Their objective was a modest run chase of just 134 runs.

Delhi still has opportunities to secure a playoff spot in their upcoming fixtures. Currently, Delhi Capitals possess 13 points from 11 games, whereas Hyderabad, having accumulated just seven points from as many matches, joined Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals as the third team officially out of playoff contention.

Before rain SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the coin toss and decided to bowl first, sweeping away the whole setup. The opening duo of Karun Nair and Faf du Plessis took their positions at the crease to kick off the batting for the Capitals.

The team from Delhi had an unfavorable beginning as their opening batsmen crumbled during the Power Play phase.

(0) Nair, (3) Du Plessis, (8) Abhishek Porel, and (6) Axar Patel failed to leave a significant impact on the match as they were quickly sent back to the pavilion.

By the conclusion of the powerplay (6 overs), the Delhi team stood at 26/4, with KL Rahul (8*) and Tristan Stubbs (0*) remaining not out.

During the eighth over with the score at 30, KL Rahul (who had scored 10 runs from 14 deliveries) was dismissed by left-arm fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat after edging the ball to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. As a result, KL Rahul returned to the pavilion.

Axar Patel’s team reached the 50-run milestone during the 11th over. After losing five rapid wickets, Stubbs and Vipraj Nigam formed a brief alliance, scoring 32 runs with Nigam contributing 18 off 17 deliveries until he was dismissed via run-out in the 13th over as their total climbed to 62.

After Vipraj Nigam's dismissal, right-hand batter Ashutosh Sharma came out to bat in the middle along with Stubbs as an impact player.

Both players controlled the Capitals' innings from there on. DC crossed the 100-run mark in the 17th over as Ashutosh slammed a boundary on the bowling of Unadkat.

Stubbs and Ashutosh sealed their 50-run collaboration during the 18th over when Stubbs dispatched a shot off the bowling of right-handed ace Eshan Malinga for a boundary.

Ashutosh Sharma (41 runs off 26 balls) was caught out and returned to the pavilion in the 20th over by Eshan Malinga.

The Capitals concluded their innings with 133 runs for the loss of seven wickets, as Stubbs remained not out on 41* from 36 balls and Mitchell Starc was also undefeated at 1*.

For the Hyderabad team, the standout performer with the ball was Pat Cummins, who took three wickets in his four-over stint, conceding only 19 runs throughout his bowling spell.

Each of them took one wicket: Jaydev Unadkat claimed 1 for 13 runs off four overs, followed by Eshan Malinga with 1 for 28 runs over the same span, and finally Harshal Patel taking 1 for 36 from his four-over spell. (ANI)
