 Dubai, March 19, 2025 (WAM)—The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has finished quick upgrades on Sheikh Zayed Road aimed at boosting the effectiveness of the emirate’s transportation system. This initiative seeks to enhance overall traffic movement, decrease bottlenecks at crucial junctions, and expand roadway capacity. By ensuring more fluid traffic patterns and upholding stringent road safety protocols, these modifications reflect RTA's commitment to deploying cutting-edge traffic strategies across vital routes within Dubai. Such measures align with the progressive development and extension occurring throughout the city.


 This project encompassed the enlargement and improvement of significant spots alongside Sheikh Zayed Road, an essential economic artery flanked by residential zones and prominent financial and commercial hubs such as the Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall, among others like various multinational companies, banking institutions, investment firms, hotels, and recreational venues. Serving primarily as a conduit for commerce and routine travel, this road acts as a crucial thoroughfare within Dubai’s infrastructure.


 Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, stated: “RTA remains committed to enhancing traffic flow across Dubai, particularly on Sheikh Zayed Road. Through innovative enhancements and traffic solutions, we aim to provide a seamless and safe travel experience for all motorists and road users across the emirate.”


 Al Khzaimy stated, "The RTA has finished expanding the service road leading to the Financial Centre Metro Station towards Abu Dhabi, raising the lane count from three to four. This improvement has increased roadway capacity by 25%, enabling up to 3,200 cars per hour compared to the previous limit of 2,400 vehicles. Additionally, this update has alleviated congestion at the entry point, removed vehicular lines, and enhanced overall traffic movement, reducing travel time from five minutes down to merely two."


 He further noted that RTA had optimised the traffic merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street in the Dubai-bound direction. “Extending the merging distance has eased congestion and improved service levels, resulting in a 25% reduction in journey time along Sheikh Zayed Road—from four minutes to three minutes—ensuring smoother and more efficient traffic flow,” concluded Al Khzaimy.

 The construction of a 120 km-long, four-lane greenfield and brownfield corridor from Patna to Sasaram in Bihar has been approved by the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA), at an expected cost of Rs 3,712.40 crore, a government statement said on March 28.


 The four-lane, access-controlled Patna-Arrah-Sasaram corridor, also known as NH-119A, will be developed on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).


 "Currently, connectivity between Sasaram, Arrah and Patna relies on existing State Highways and takes 3-4 hours due to heavy congestion including in Arrah town. A greenfield corridor, along with 10.6 km of upgradation of existing brownfield highway, will be developed to reduce the increasing congestion, catering to the needs of densely built-up areas in places like Arrah, Grahini, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar and Sasaram," the statement said.


 The corridor is expected to improve the connectivity between Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi after completion, and will also generate 48 lakh man days worth of employment. The corridor is also expected open up news avenues of growth and development for the emerging regions in and around Patna, the statement said.

 The said project will also provide connectivity to the two airports as well, the Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna, and the upcoming Bihita airport, along with four major railway stations in Sasaram, Arrah, Danapur and Patna. The improved corridor will also provide better transport to the inland water terminal in Patna and improved direct access to the Patna Ring Road.


 The total land acquisition cost for the project is projected at Rs 718.97 crore.
