Mistakes on the basepaths occur frequently. In the fifth inning, when trailing by six runs, Isiah Kiner-Falefa was caught stealing first base—a move Shelton deemed unacceptable.


 The performance of the outfielders has been inconsistent. Recently signed Alexander Canario misplayed a ball in the third inning, allowing Trent Grisham to advance an additional base. Later in the game, Grisham came around to score on a hit from Oswaldo Cabrera.


 "We need to tidy that up," Shelton stated.


 Maybe even more importantly, the Pirates need to figure out how to prevent situations from getting out of hand.


 McCutchen, who remains the final remaining connection to Pittsburgh’s frequent postseason appearances between 2013 and 2015 when he was among baseball's most prominent players, hopes that the first ten days of the season will ultimately prove to be a fortunate omen.

 5) The enthusiastic "Raffy! Raffy!" chants from a substantial group of Red Sox supporters when Rafael Devers came up to bat during the first inning were no accident. That game proved successful for him. He managed to reach base safely four times—first with walks in his initial two at-bats followed by singles in both the sixth and seventh innings. Over his past three matches, Devers has secured a total of eight bases-on-balls.


 6) It was intriguing to observe
 reserve catcher Carlos Narváez included in the lineup
 For the second consecutive day, he was teamed up with Buehler for the second start in a row for the right-hander. Manager Alex Cora stated that Narváez started instead of Connor Wong because Wong would be playing on both Saturday and Sunday.


 Narváez had a strong offensive performance, managing to reach base four times throughout the game. In the third inning, he added an insurance run by driving home Kristian Campbell with an RBI single following two outs. Later, after drawing two walks, Narváez smashed an RBI double, contributing to Boston’s total of 13 runs for the day. His batting average now stands at .400, having set new personal bests in hits, RBIs, walks, and times on base during Friday’s contest.


 7) On several occasions, the Red Sox' pitching team appeared to be allowing the Cardinals back into the game. In the fourth inning, St. Louis narrowed their lead down to just two runs thanks to Herrera’s home run. Later, when the Red Sox were ahead 13-6 in the ninth inning, they allowed three swift runs from St. Louis (thanks partly to two of their own errors), which prompted them to bring Aroldis Chapman into the game against Cooper Criswell. With Herrera stepping up to bat as the potential tying run, he ended up grounding into a double play, thus concluding the match.

 faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the series finale in a matchup that looked lopsided in the Dodgers’ favor. Two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell was on the bump for the Dodgers against injury replacement call-up Bryce Elder who has struggled since June of 2023.


 As it turns out, both starting pitchers lasted for less than half of the game, both pitching 4.0 innings.


 The Braves come up to hit first and for the second night in a row scored on an error to take the 1-0 lead. Ozuna and Olson each walked which allowed Ozuna to score on a throwing error from Max Muncy. Nick Allen, who is slowly taking the starting job away from Orlando Arcia, hit a double to make the score 2-0 before the top of the inning ended.


 Bryce Elder made a statement in his return in his first inning. He forced Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts to groundout and then struck out Teoscar Hernández on a sinker that painted the corner.


 The Braves kept the momentum going in the second. Newly acquired Stuart Fairchild reached on an ugly error by Max Muncy (his second in as many innings) to get the ball rolling. He then moved to second on a wild pitch followed by a bunt single from Eli White. Ozzie Albies then came through in a big way with a double to make the score 3-0. Ozuna then walked to load the bases. Austin Riley struck out, but fortunately Matt Olson had a double of his own to plate two and make the score 5-0. Bryan De La Cruz almost came through with a 105.5 MPH rocket off the bat, but it was hit right at Mookie Betts.

 In the subsequent innings, Bryce Elder faced less fortune. He began by walking Michael Conforto. Despite inducing a flyout from Will Smith, Elder conceded a home run to Tommy Edman, extending the lead to 5-2. However, he managed to regain composure afterward, promptly forcing two consecutive groundouts.


 In the third inning, the Braves were unable to score as they went down 1-2-3. Elder returned to pitch the third and seemed much more composed. He struck out Andy Pages and followed up with a flyout against Ohtani and a groundout against Betts.


 The Braves seemed poised to make some progress in the fourth inning. Following a White flyout and an Albies strikeouts, Ozuna secured another walk, which was then accompanied by a Riley single. Nonetheless, Olson couldn’t step up as the key player this time around and grounded out, effectively closing their attempt. This sequence proved sufficient to conclude Snell’s outing for the evening. By the end of his performance, Snell had conceded five runs along with four walks. Notably, however, due to fielding errors, all five runs remained unearned.


 It was evident that Bryce Elder was tiring in the fourth inning. Although he managed to strike out Hernández once more, things took a turn for the worse thereafter. Conforto launched a solo home run, making the score 5-3. Following this, Elder surrendered a single to Will Smith and subsequently issued a base on balls to Tommy Edman. Fortunately, he was able to retire the following batters. By the end of the fourth inning, Elder had concluded his evening having allowed three hits, three earned runs, walked three, and recorded six strikeouts.


 In the fifth inning, the Braves experienced another three-up-three-down situation as De La Cruz and Nick Allen both struck out consecutively. When Enyel De Los Santos took over pitching duties, he immediately hit the first batter faced. However, he managed to recover from this setback when Ohtani subsequently singled but Betts then grounded into a double play thanks to a liner caught by De Los Santos, which led to an exchange of throws resulting in Pages being tagged out at third base. Finally, Hernández swung out for his strikeout.


 During the sixth inning, Chadwick Tromp started things off with a walk after Snell had left the game. With Eli White being substituted by Michael Harris at this point, Harris hit a single, putting runners on base without any outs recorded yet. Next, Albies also got a single, filling the bases for their team without recording an out as well. So here’s the question: Did the Atlanta Braves manage to score during this frame? Not quite; Ozuna flew out to center field, followed by Austin Riley striking out, and finally, Matt Olson hitting a pop-up to shortstop ended the threat.


 Pierce Johnson entered the game for the Braves next. After walking his initial hitter, he managed to fan Will Smith. Following this, Tommy Edman smacked a single right at Stuart Fairchild. Fairchild responded with an exceptional throw to third base, securing the out via an outfield assist. Finally, Dylan Lee took over and concluded the frame with a strikeout.


 Previously with the Braves, pitcher Kirby Yates entered the game for the Dodgers in the seventh inning. Once more, the Braves aimed to secure additional runs. Nick Allan got a single and subsequently stole second base. Later, he advanced to third due to a failed pickoff attempt. Nonetheless, he couldn’t manage to score from third.

Both players hit ground balls before Jarred Kelenic swung strikeout three, thus concluding the top of the ninth inning.


 Despite any rationale, Brian Snitker decided to keep Raisel Iglesias in the contest even though he had faced difficulties in the preceding frame.  In his comeback appearance, Bryce Elder asserted himself right away in the first inning. He induced groundouts from Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts before striking out Teoscar Hernández with a sinking fastball that caught the edge of the strike zone.


 The Braves kept the momentum going in the second. Newly acquired Stuart Fairchild reached on an ugly error by Max Muncy (his second in as many innings) to get the ball rolling. He then moved to second on a wild pitch followed by a bunt single from Eli White. Ozzie Albies then came through in a big way with a double to make the score 3-0. Ozuna then walked to load the bases. Austin Riley struck out, but fortunately Matt Olson had a double of his own to plate two and make the score 5-0. Bryan De La Cruz almost came through with a 105.5 MPH rocket off the bat, but it was hit right at Mookie Betts.

 In the second inning, Bryce Elder had less luck. He began by walking Michael Conforto. Although he managed to induce a flyout from Will Smith, Tommy Edman followed with a home run to center field, extending their lead to 5-2. Fortunately for them, Elder recovered and induced consecutive groundouts after that.


 In the third inning, the Braves were unable to score as they went down 1-2-3. Elder returned to pitch the third and appeared more composed. He struck out Andy Pages and followed up with a flyout against Ohtani and a groundout against Betts.


 The Braves seemed poised to make some progress in the fourth inning. Following a White flyout and an Albies strikeouts, Ozuna secured another walk, which was then followed by a Riley base hit. Nonetheless, Olson failed to step up as the hero once more, ending his turn with a groundout. This sequence proved sufficient to conclude Snell’s outing. In summary, Snell concluded the game having allowed five runs along with four walks. Notably, despite these outcomes, all five runs remained unearned due to the occurrence of errors throughout the play.


 It was evident that Bryce Elder was tiring in the fourth inning. Although he managed to strike out Hernández once more, things took a turn for the worse thereafter. Conforto sent a solo home run flying, making the score 5-3. Following this, Elder yielded a single to Will Smith and walked Tommy Edman. Fortunately, he could retire the subsequent batters. By the end of the fourth, Elder had concluded his evening having allowed three hits, three earned runs, issued three walks, and recorded six strikeouts.


 In the fifth inning, the Braves experienced another three-up-three-down situation as De La Cruz and Nick Allen both struck out consecutively. When Enyel De Los Santos took over pitching duties, he immediately hit the first batter faced. However, he managed to recover from this setback when, despite Ohtani following with a base hit, Betts subsequently grounded into a double play after hitting a liner right back to De Los Santos. The ball was thrown to Riley, resulting in Pages being tagged out at third base. Finally, De Los Santos ended the inning by striking out Hernández.


 During the sixth inning, Chadwick Tromp began with a walk after Snell had been taken out of the game. Eli White was substituted with Michael Harris at that point. Harris followed with a single, putting runners on base without any outs recorded yet. Next, Albies hit another single, filling the bases still without recording an out. So, what happened here—did the Braves manage to score during this turn at bat? Not quite. Ozuna flew out to center field, Austin Riley struck out, and Matt Olson’s attempt ended as he popped up near shortstop.


 Pierce Johnson subsequently entered the game for the Braves. He issued a walk to the initial batter he faced but followed that with a strikeout of Will Smith. Next up, Tommy Edman smacked a single towards Stuart Fairchild, who responded with a spectacular glove-work throwing from the outfield to nab the runner at third base. The inning concluded when Dylan Lee took over pitching duties and recorded another strikeout.


 Previously with the Braves, pitcher Kirby Yates entered the game for the Dodgers in the seventh inning. Once more, the Braves aimed to secure additional runs. Nick Allan got a single and subsequently swiped second base. He advanced further to third when there was an error during a pick-off attempt. Nonetheless, he couldn’t manage to cross home plate from his position at third.


 Dylan Lee remained on the mound for the seventh inning. During this period, he managed to achieve one strikeout and one fly out prior to Ohtani getting a hit. Subsequently, Dylan Lee was substituted with Daysbel Hernández, who induced Betts into recording another fly out.


 In the eighth inning, the Braves failed to make any offensive progress. After Teoscar Hernández popped out, Conforto managed a single. Manager Brian Snitker responded by bringing in Raisel Iglesias. However, this decision didn’t pay off as expected. Next, Will Smith drew a walk. Then, Tommy Edman advanced the baserunners with a groundout. To recover from his previous mistakes, Max Muncy hit a crucial two-run double, tying the score at 5-5. Fortunately for Atlanta, Iglesias struck out the next batter, limiting additional harm and ending the frame.


 The score is currently even in the bottom of the ninth inning with the Braves having key batters due up, yet Austin Riley and Matt Olson failed to deliver. Both players hit ground balls before Jarred Kelenic fanned swinging to close out the top half of the ninth frame.


 Despite any rationale, Brian Snitker decided to keep Raisel Iglesias in the contest even though he had faced difficulties in the preceding frame. Although Iglesias managed to strike out Andy Pages, Shohei Ohtani emerged as the key figure for the Dodgers when he hit a solo home run, securing victory with a walk-off in the ninth inning. This loss marks the Atlanta Braves' seventh consecutive defeat at the beginning of this season.


 The team displayed some promising moments during the game, but failing to score when they had the bases loaded and no outs with their strongest hitters at bat will certainly be frustrating.


 The Braves have a day off tomorrow, however, they will kick off their home schedule against the Marlins this Friday at 7:15 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Here’s hoping they secure their inaugural victory for the new season.

 There isn't really such a concept as a crucial match in early April. Playing just five games doesn’t provide sufficient basis for evaluating a team. Nonetheless, during this particular game, there were instances when the situation felt critical.
 Mets
 appeared bewildered, and the match appeared dismal.


 Next up were Pete Alonso, Luis Torrens, and Huascar Brazobán, who weighed in before the Mets secured an intense victory over the Marlins in Miami with a score of 6-5.


 Early in the game, the Mets scored against Connor Gillispie thanks to a hit from Juan Soto followed by a double from Pete Alonso. This allowed Soto to make it safely home from first base despite some close calls and thrown-out attempts at tagging him as he slid past. However, they were unable to bring Alonso home from second base, which became a recurring pattern throughout this match.


 Clay Holmes began pitching for the Mets and faced difficulties, particularly during the second inning. With runners loaded and nobody out, the Marlins capitalized when Matt Mervis hit a sacrifice fly, driving in their initial run as Kyle Stowers advanced to third base. Next up was Otto Lopez, who grounded towards third baseman Mark Vientos, whose inaccurate toss allowed Stowers to cross home plate.


 The Mets had additional opportunities early on to add runs, yet they were unable to capitalize. Alonso started off the third inning with another solid double and advanced to third thanks to a sacrifice fly. However, he was left stranded when both Jesse Winker and Vientos failed to connect, striking out consecutively. Then, in the fourth frame, Hayden Senger secured his inaugural major-league hit—a double—but their potential scoring chance fizzled as Francisco Lindor chased an exceptionally tough inside offering, swinging and missing.


 Holmes was substituted when two players were off base at the beginning of the fifth inning from the bottom, marking his second successive start where he failed to finish through the fifth frame. Reed Garrett secured the final out of the fifth and struck out three more in the sixth, navigating around runners on base to achieve a pristine inning.


 The Mets' defense continued to cause problems for them in the seventh inning. A.J. Minter began the frame and faced a challenge from Griffin Conine, who smacked a ground-rule double. During his next delivery, Minter stumbled mid-pitch; although he released the ball, it resulted in a balk call, advancing Conine to third base. When Otto Lopez stepped up to bat, his hit went towards Vientos, whom seemed to think the ball was headed out-of-play until realizing it had stayed within bounds. This misjudgment left him poorly positioned to make an accurate play home, leading to a hurried overhand toss to Alonso at first, enabling Conine to cross the plate. Following this, with Stanek now pitching, another grounder coupled with a Nick Fortes single brought about their team’s fourth run. Though Lopez might have scored regardless due to momentum alone, Soto mishandled the ball in right field, simplifying what could otherwise been a more challenging scoring opportunity.


 Luis Torrens, substituting for Senger, secured the Mets' fifth hit of the game with a one-out single. Following him, Lindor hit a single to right field, advancing Torrens to first and third bases with one out remaining. Next up, Soto tapped a ball along the foul line near first base, resulting in Torrens getting caught at home plate during the tag-up play. After an extended ten-pitch sequence against Calvin Faucher, Alonso added another powerful blow to his night’s performance with a three-run homer to deep center field.


 Since he was already warming up for some innings, Edwin Díaz came into the game to handle the bottom of the ninth. After Xavier Edwards got an infield single, he managed to swipe a base during the first pitch to Stowers. Following this, a wild pitch sent Edwards all the way to third. Nonetheless, Díaz recovered well enough to fan Stowers. Then, when Conine grounded towards second, Brett Baty caught it but fired off a bad toss over to Torrens; Torrens needed to stretch backward just to apply the tag properly. At first, the umpire ruled that Edwards was safe, which meant the Marlins took a 5-4 lead. Yet, after reviewing via replay, they reversed their decision, keeping things knotted. Subsequently, as Conine tried another stealing move, his effort fell short due to a strong relay from Torrens with support from a solid tag by Baty.


 The Mets were unable to score in the top of the ninth, and José Buttó prevented the Marlins from scoring in the bottom of that inning, leading the game to extend into extra innings. With Luisangel Acuña replacing Baty and serving as the automatic runner at second base, Tyrone Taylor hit a soft single to right field, putting runners on first and second with nobody out. Nevertheless, Torrens, Lindor, and Soto failed to capitalize, and the Mets remained without additional runs.


 The initial pitch delivered by Buttó was bunted by Fortes, advancing free runner Dane Myers to third base. A soft grounder by Eric Wagaman resulted in a tag at home plate for the second out. The inning concluded with Javier Sanoja popping out foul, surprisingly without any runs scoring.


 Xzavion Curry threw the eleventh inning for the Marlins, and Alonso started the frame by drawing a tough walk. Following this, Brandon Nimmo got a base hit which filled up the bases for Jesse Winker. Winker received another walk after getting four consecutive pitches, allowing Soto — who was the designated pinch-runner — to score and secure the lead.


 Next up was Mark Vientos, who hit what appeared to be an obvious double play; however, Edwards fumbled the ball, allowing Alonso to score and giving the Mets a 6-4 lead. Acuña then grounded into a 5-2-3 double play, followed by Taylor flying out to conclude the inning.


 The game had shifted into Danny Young's control, despite him appearing strained during his previous outing on Monday against Miami. During his second pitch, Young allowed Edwards to hit a single, which enabled the free runner Sanoja to score, narrowing the Mets' lead down to just one run. Following this, Young issued a walk to Stowers, placing runners at both bases with nobody out. However, Young managed to recover and recorded a strikeout against Conine, securing the first out before handing over the reins to Huascar Brazobán. Upon taking over, Brazobán forced a fly-out that prompted Edwards to advance to third base via tagging up.


 Lopez was the final chance for the Fish, yet he witnessed a called third strike on the edge of the plate for the third out. Brazobán secured his inaugural career save, the Mets clinched their initial series of the season, and everybody could finally breathe.


 The Mets will host the Blue Jays on Friday at their home opener. Tylar Megill is set to pitch for New York.

 「たまッチ！」は2007年から不定期放送されている野球バラエティー。番組開始からリーダーを務めていた中居正広氏（52）は1月に芸能界を引退したが、レギュラー出演していたお笑いコンビ「アンタッチャブル」の山崎弘也（49）と柴田英嗣（49）を中心に番組は存続し、昨年11月以来の放送となった9日深夜からこの日は3週連続の放送となった。


 そのなかで番組スタッフから単独インタビューされた様子がオンエアされたマエケン。不振だった昨季の悔しさや今季に懸ける思いなどを明るい表情で語った。


 現在までに日米通算165勝をマーク。200勝まであと35勝となっている。


 「僕は先発ピッチャーとしてキャリアを築いてきましたし、先発ピッチャーとして200勝したいっていう大きな目標もありますし。それは先発やってないとね、なかなか達成できないものだと思うので今後も先発ピッチャーとしてやっていきたいと思ってます。200勝達成する時は僕は日本で達成したいなっていつも言ってるんですけど。日本のファンの人の前でね、200勝達成できたら一番うれしいこと」


 200勝目は日本で。それは古巣であるカープで…なのか。スタッフが思い切って聞いてみると「言えないことのが多いですね」と笑顔。「全く分かんないんで。僕が自分でチーム決めるわけじゃないですし。オファーいただかないとプレーできないってのが野球選手だと思うんで。僕がね…ね…はい…決められることではないかなと思うんですけど。ただ、オファーもらえるような選手ではありたいなとは思いますし、チームの期待に応えられるような状態をキープできるようなピッチャーではありたいなと思っています」と古巣への思いをにじませていた。
