경남도, 뉴스페이스 시대 우주산업 중심지 도약 ‘842억원’ 투입

 [DIWIDA |=이창식 기자] 경상남도는 지난해 경남 사천의 우주항공청(KASA) 개청을 주춧돌로 삼아 뉴스페이스 시대 우주산업의 중심지로 거듭나기 위해 올해 842억 원을 투입해 총 8개 주요 사업을 추진한다.

 3일 경남도에 따르면 지난 2022년 우주산업 클러스터 위성특화지구로 지정된 경남도에 ‘우주환경시험시설’과 ‘위성개발혁신센터’를 구축한다.
</p>
<p>
 ‘우주환경시험시설’은 기업이 위성을 개발하는 데 필수적인 시험 시설이며, ‘위성개발혁신센터’는 위성 연구·개발·사업화를 지원하는 종합지원센터(스페이스 허브) 역할을 한다. 도는 올해 기본계획을 수립하고 기본 및 실시설계를 시행해 각 센터가 적기에 준공될 수 있도록 할 계획이다.

 도는 전국 지방자치단체 최초로 발사 성공한 진주샛-1의 후속 사업인 ‘6U급 초소형위성(진주샛-2) 개발사업’에 오는 2027년까지 50억 원을 투입한다. 이 위성은 해양 관측용 카메라를 장착해 경남 연근해 감시 임무를 수행하며, 지구 재진입을 통한 폐기 기술 검증 연구에도 활용된다.

 우주산업은 초기 진입장벽이 높은 만큼, 도는 기업의 연구개발과 시험 인증을 지원하는 다양한 사업을 추진한다.

<p>
 ‘경남 우주산업 혁신생태계 조성지원 사업(6억 원)’을 통해 시제품 개발, 시험평가·검증, 글로벌 마케팅 등을 지원한다. 특히, 올해 신규사업인 ‘글로벌 마케팅 지원사업’을 통해 도내 우주기업이 해외시장에 진출할 수 있도록 오는 9월 호주 시드니에서 열리는 국제우주대회 참가를 지원한다.

 ‘경남 우주산업 핵심부품 국산화 기술개발 사업(1억 6천만 원)’은 위성체와 지상국 등 주요 부품의 국산화 개발을 지원해 기술 자립도를 높인다.
</p>
<p>
 ‘경남 국제 우주항공 포럼 및 콘퍼런스(6억 원)’를 연 5회 개최해 국내외 선도기업과의 협력과 투자유치도 활성화할 계획이다.
</p>
<p>
 ‘우주분야 전문인력 양성(13억 5천만 원)’은 위성기술 분야 석·박사 과정 30여 명의 교육을 지원하고, 산학연 연계 공동강의·현장실습을 제공한다.
</p>

 신규사업인 ‘우주산업 실무형 인재 양성 기업 트랙(4억 원)’은 중소기업과 연계한 실습 교육을 통해 현장 실무능력을 갖춘 전문 인력 30여 명을 양성한다.

 경남도는 “우주항공청 설립과 우주산업 클러스터 조성 등을 통해 국내 우주항공산업의 중심지로 자리매김하고, ‘세계 5대 우주강국’ 실현을 위해 첨단기술 개발, 인재 양성, 산학연 협력 강화 등 다각적인 노력을 지속하겠다”라고 밝혔다.

   Polska Stacja Antarktyczna im. Henryka Arctowskiego znajduje się na półkuli południowej archipelagu Szetlandów Południowych na Wyspie Króla Jerzego u Wybrzeża Zatoki Admiralicji. Powstała w roku 1977. Początkowo miała służyć jako zaplecze dla rybołówstwa, dokładnie połowów kryla. Z czasem stała się stacją badawczą, którą zarządza Instytut Biochemii i Biofizyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk.
  </p>
  <p>
   Prowadzone są tu badania w dziedzinie: oceanografii, geologii, geomorfologii, glacjologii, meteorologii, sejsmologii, ekologii oraz przede wszystkim biologii, a także monitoringi zwierząt.
  </p>
  <p>
   Od wielu lat stacja zapewnia zaplecze techniczne i logistyczne dla polskich oraz międzynarodowych grup naukowców prowadzących badania w Antarktyce.
  </p>
  <p>
   Pierwsza polska samodzielna wyprawa morska do Antarktyki wyruszyła pod koniec 1975 roku. W skład 48. wyprawy, która zameldowała się na stacji pod koniec 2023 roku, był Tomasz Szewczyk z Kluczborka. Przebywał tam 476 dni. Niedawno wrócił do domu.

Trzeba pokonać ponad 14 tysięcy kilometrów, przesiadać się na lotniskach, ścierać z wiatrem w chilijskim Punta Arenas, a na końcu – płynąć statkiem przez wzburzone wody Cieśniny Drake’a. Ten, kto dotrze do celu, już wie – to nie jest miejsce dla każdego.
  </p>
  <p>
   Latem na stacji bywa nawet 50 osób – naukowcy z różnych krajów, a także obsługa techniczna. Zimą zostaje garstka – zaledwie 9 osób, których łączy jedno: muszą na siebie liczyć, bo nikt inny im tu nie pomoże.

   O wyprawie do krainy wiecznego lodu Tomasz Szewczyk marzył „od zawsze”.

Biegając po podwórkach mojego rodzinnego miasta Kluczborka, praktycznie od podstawówki wzrastało we mnie marzenie o odwiedzeniu takiego miejsca – wspomina Tomasz Szewczyk. - Doszło do tego kilka przeczytanych książek, parę obejrzanych filmów i już wiedziałem, że zrobię wszystko, by znaleźć się w takim miejscu. Po wielu latach pojawiły się w moim życiu czas, przestrzeń i odwaga, żeby marzenie przemienić w dążenie.

   Choć corocznie – w grudniu lub na początku stycznia - Instytut Biochemii i Biofizyki PAN rekrutuje pracowników, wcale nie jest prosto przejść przez całe procedury rekrutacyjne. Trzeba wykazać się konkretnymi umiejętnościami, a także mieć żelazną psychikę i zdrowie.
  </p>

    - Można aplikować na pobyt w okresie letnim, czyli od listopada do kwietnia, a także na cały rok – opowiada Tomasz Szewczyk. – Ja zdecydowałem się na tę drugą opcję i to z naddatkiem, bo dostałem propozycję, by po roku zostać kilka miesięcy dłużej.
   </p>
  </blockquote>
  <p>
   Wybrani aplikanci przechodzą rozmowę kwalifikacyjną, a następnie badania w Wojskowym Instytucie Medycyny Lotniczej. Po ich zaliczeniu są kierowani na tygodniowe szkolenie w Gdyni nastawione na psychologię polarną, naukę obsługi radia morskiego, obsługę sprzętu alpinistycznego, a także ITR (indywidualne techniki ratunkowe) w razie pożaru, ewakuacji oraz wypadnięcia z łodzi. A stamtąd już droga prosta do krainy wiecznego lodu.

 Zima i ciemność

   Noc polarna nie jest tu tak całkowita jak w głębi kontynentu, ale i tak potrafi dać się we znaki. Po godzinie 15:00 świat tonie w mroku. Przez kilka miesięcy światło słoneczne jest rzadkością, a witamina D staje się towarem nie mniej cennym niż paliwo do generatorów.

   Tomasz Szewczyk pracował na stacji jako mechanik.

    - Zajmowałem się utrzymaniem sprzętów mechanicznych oraz maszyn, które cały czas musiały być na chodzie i nie można było sobie pozwolić na to, żeby coś nie działało, gdyż w każdej chwili mogło być potrzebne – opowiada kluczborczanin.

   Dlatego każdy dzień zaczyna się od sprawdzenia stanu technicznego stacji. Awaria w takich warunkach to nie tylko niedogodność – to realne zagrożenie. Mróz potrafi zniszczyć rurę, wiatr zrywa zabezpieczenia, a jeśli przestanie działać generator, wszystkim grozi ogromne niebezpieczeństwo. Zimą gdy zatoka zamarza nikt nie jest w stanie dopłynąć na wyspę. Śmigłowce z innych stacji również stają się bezużyteczne.
  </p>

    - To też nie jest tak, że robiliśmy tylko to, co lubimy, bo zdarzały się sytuacje awaryjne. Jak spadło dużo śniegu, trzeba było używać spychacza lub brać się za łopaty i odśnieżać, żeby drogi były przejezdne a podczas wiosennej odwilży nie zalało agregatów czy innych rzeczy. Nie ma że boli, że pada deszcz, że wieje wiatr.
   </p>

   Gdy pogoda pozwala, wychodzą na zewnątrz. To inny świat – pingwiny, foki, słonie morskie. Czasem trzeba kluczyć między zwierzętami, które leniwie zajmują przejścia. Ale natura jest tu ważniejsza – gdy petrelce wykradają jaja z gniazd pingwinów, nikt nie interweniuje. To nie zoo, to Antarktyka.

 Codzienność na krańcu świata

   Dni na stacji płyną według prostego rytmu: praca, jedzenie, sen. Latem to etatowy kucharz serwuje ciepłe posiłki, ale zimą, kiedy go nie ma, każdy musi zaliczyć dyżur w kuchni. Niektórzy gotują lepiej, inni gorzej, ale wszyscy się starają – nikt nie chce zjeść przypalonego makaronu po dniu spędzonym na mrozie.

   Wolny czas? Są książki, planszówki, puzzle. Niektórzy jeżdżą na skuterach śnieżnych, nartach, inni spędzają wieczory na rozmowach. Jest też salka gimnastyczna, z której można skorzystać, jak również siłownia. Internet działa, ale z opóźnieniem – pogaduszki z rodziną w Polsce to czasem jedyne, co łączy ze światem.

    - Obserwacja przyrody jest też dobrym urozmaiceniem codzienności. Zdarzało nam się podglądać pingwiny, foki, kormorany, słonie morskie. Poznawać ich zwyczaje – wspomina Tomasz Szewczyk. - Mogliśmy się też spotykać ze znajomymi z zaprzyjaźnionych stacji, np. brazylijskiej. Mieliśmy do nich dość blisko, zaledwie 20 minut łodzią motorową, jakieś 10 km na drugą stronę zatoki, ale nie dało się tam dojść na nogach.

   Jednak to nie samotność najbardziej doskwiera, a monotonia.

    - Po kilku miesiącach każdy wie, kto jak chodzi, co je na śniadanie, jakie ma nawyki – mówi kluczborczanin. - Zdarzają się napięcia. Czasem drobnostka – ktoś nie odłożył czegoś na miejsce – może stać się iskrą zapalną poważnej kłótni.

   Nie wszyscy to wytrzymują. Bywały przypadki depresji, załamań nerwowych. Psychologia polarna to temat, którym interesuje się nawet NASA – bo warunki tutaj przypominają te, jakie mogą panować w Kosmosie.

 The Drake Passage is an ocean channel between the southern tip of South America and the West Antarctic Peninsula. Named after the 16th-century explorer Sir Francis Drake, it is notorious for whipping up wild storms and monster waves
 up to 80 feet
 (25 meters) tall.

 The passage is "the most dreaded bit of ocean on the globe,"
 Alfred Lansing wrote
 in his 1959 book "
 Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage to the Antarctic
 ." At around 600 miles (965 kilometers) wide, the channel is
 relatively narrow
 compared with the ocean around it, meaning currents speed up as they are forced through the passage. The same goes for southern winds, which blow unimpeded from west to east around Antarctica before they reach the Drake Passage.
</p>
<p>
 As winds funnel through the passage, they whisk up huge waves, some of which can be dangerous —
 and even deadly
 — for passengers on boats making the 48-hour-long crossing. In the best case, the waves make for a bumpy ride, known as the "Drake shake."

 The Drake Passage is a "melting pot" of currents from the Atlantic, Pacific and Southern oceans, Heywood said. The waters are so turbulent that the layers which normally make up the seas mix together, meaning the passage draws a lot more carbon down into its depths than other parts of the ocean do.

 The world's oceans lock away
 more than 30%
 of the carbon humans emit into the atmosphere every year, and the Drake Passage could be one of a handful of places where this activity is particularly pronounced, National Geographic reported.

 The passage also keeps Antarctica cold, because it cuts off warm air that would otherwise blow south from South America.
 Research
 suggests that when the Drake Passage opened between 49 million and 17 million years ago, it triggered significant cooling in Antarctica and contributed to the growth of giant ice sheets on the continent.

 The temperature drop as you traverse the passage is noticeable even for people on ships,
 Alberto Naveira Garabato
 , a professor of physical oceanography at the University of Southampton in the U.K., told National Geographic. "Suddenly you are in this icy world," Naveira Garabato said.

 So, while extreme winds and currents inside the passage create terrifying conditions for passengers, they also help to maintain Antarctica's frigid climate — although
 climate change is slowing the system
 .

 Were it not for the Drake Passage and its wild weather, the frozen continent would likely hold much less ice than it currently does.
