 根據這項去年7月發表在英國期刊「自然地球科學」（Nature Geoscience）的研究，馬鈴薯大小的礦結核可以產生足夠的電壓，將水分解為氫和氧，這個過程也被稱為電解。


 這讓長久以來的觀點受到質疑，即大約27億年前，當微生物開始透過需要陽光進行的光合作用產生氧氣，生命才得以存在。


 蘇格蘭海洋科学协会（Scottish Association for Marine Science）在其发布这项研究的新闻稿中指出：“深海中的发现引发了对生命起源的质疑。”

 California's initial alert system, USGS ShakeAlert, was triggered by the earthquake; however, notifications weren’t sent to mobile devices because the tremor didn't reach the required magnitude of 4.5.

 The city of Agoura Hills distributed an earthquake advisory to its inhabitants on Sunday.


 “Drop, cover, and hold on when shaking occurs; develop an emergency plan and prepare kits for both your vehicle and residence; ensure large items such as bookshelves, fridges, water heaters, TVs, and wall-mounted objects are secured,” it stated on X, previously known as Twitter.

Mereka melihat bahwa disk formator planet tersebut mempertahankan keberadaannya selama tiga kali lipat lebih lama daripada estimasi awal mereka.


 "Walaupun sudah diketahui kalau kebanyakan cakram akan lenyap dalam rentang waktu 10 sampai 20 juta tahun, kami menemukan fakta bahwa untuk beberapa jenis bintang spesifik, cakram tersebut dapat bertahan selama yang lebih lama," ungkap Long.

 Walaupun bintang remaja menjaga diskus debu mereka dalam periode yang cukup panjang, kandungan kimianya tak banyak berevolusi. Peneliti mengungkapkan bahwa walaupun diskus tersebut bertahan hingga ratusan juta tahun, struktur kimianya tetap konstan. Hal ini menyiratkan bahwa kondisi kimia yang tenang bisa memberi kesempatan tambahan bagi pembentukan planet.


 Dengan mengamati komposisi gas pada cakrawala, tim ilmuwan menegaskan bahwa cakrawala yang ada di sekitar J0446B tidak berupa cakrawala debu (
 
 debris disk
 
 ), yang umumnya terbentuk dari bahan-bahan akibat benturan antara asteroid-asteroid tersebut.


 "Tim kami mengidentifikasi adanya gas semacam hidrogen dan neon, hal ini mengindikasikan keberadaan gas primordial pada cakram J0446B," jelas Chengyan Xie, seorang mahasiswi doctoral dari LPL yang turut serta dalam proyek riset tersebut.

</h3>

 Kehadiran cincin gas yang bertahan cukup lama memberikan dampak signifikan pada peluang adanya kehidupan di luar Tata Surya. Satu sistem yang telah menjadi fokus bagi banyak peneliti adalah TRAPPIST-1, yang letaknya kurang lebih 40 tahun Cahaya jauh dari Bumi. Di dalam sistem tersebut ditemukan ada tujuh planet berskala sama seperti Bumi yang mengitari sebuah bintang katai merah; dan tiga di antara mereka berlokasi tepat di zona yang memungkinkan untuk mendukung kehidupan.


 Karena bintang beserta cakram planetnya dapat bertahan selama periode panjang dan termasuk ke dalam kelompok massa yang serupa dengan TRAPPIST-1, temuan ini menjadi sangat vital bagi pemahaman kita mengenai perkembangan sistem planet.


 Ilaria Pascucci, seorang professor bidang ilmu planet dari LPL dan juga penulis studi ini, menyatakan bahwa untuk mencapai tatanan orbit khusus layaknya yang terlihat pada sistem TRAPPIST-1, planets tersebut perlu berpindah posisi di dalam cakram, sebuah proses yang memerlukan adanya gas.  Nevertheless, Professor Tkalčić and his co-author Dr Xiaolong Ma managed to identify this pattern by examining the subtle remnants of waves that persisted for several hours following the original shock.


 The technique demonstrated that seismic waves propagating close to the poles moved at a quicker pace compared to those nearer to the equator.

 When they compared their findings with various models of the Earth’s interior, Professor Tkalčić and Dr. Ma discovered that these observations were most accurately described by the existence of an extensive subterranean ‘ring’ structure, akin to a doughnut shape.


 They forecast that this area is located solely at low latitudes and aligns with the equator close to the upper boundary of the outer core, where the liquid portion interfaces with the mantle.


 "We aren't sure about the precise thickness of the doughnut, but we deduced that it extends several hundred kilometers below the core-mantle boundary," states Professor Tkalčić.


 Due to the area's significant importance, finding these could greatly impact our understanding of life both on Earth and elsewhere in the universe.


 The Earth's outer core extends about 2,160 miles (3,480 km), which is somewhat bigger than the size of Mars.

 Primarily composed of molten nickel and iron, convection currents combined with the planet’s spin cause the metallic fluid within this stratum to form elongated vertical whirls stretching from north to south, similar to immense water tornadoes.


 The rotating flows within these molten metals function akin to a dynamo, generating the Earth's magnetic field.


 As this donut-shaped area has risen to the upper part of the liquid outer core, it implies that it might contain an abundance of lighter elements such as silicon, sulfur, oxygen, hydrogen, or carbon.


 Professor Tkalčić states: "Our discoveries are intriguing as this reduced speed within the liquid core suggests a significant presence of lightweight chemical elements in those areas, which would consequently decelerate the seismic waves."

 Without that vigorous movement to power the planet's inner dynamo, the Earth's magnetic field may not have developed.
