 After pitching for 2.1 innings in the bottom of the third, Knack was substituted out. His appearance concluded with an ERA of 10.38. Facing 15 hitters, he issued four walks, gave up four hits, and managed to strikeout two, allowing eight players to safely reach bases.


 It was the most recent entry in an increasing number of subpar starts by the Dodgers' pitchers, a team known for having some of the league’s highest ERAs in Major League Baseball.

 Los Angeles has invested heavily in its starting pitching, notably securing Blake Snell over the off-season with a five-year, $182 million deal. This addition joins an already impressive roster of pitchers that include Tyler Glasnow, signed for five years at $136.6 million as a 2024 free agent, along with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who inked a substantial 12-year, $325 million agreement.


 The financial investment has not yielded returns this season. Despite the Dodgers' record of 10 wins and 4 losses, their success has been driven by a powerful offense, scoring an average of 4.9 runs per game.

 WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Padres managed to secure victory despite playing under challenging conditions where they lacked several key elements.


 With three of their six key offensive players spectating, the Padres managed to get at least one runner into scoring position during seven out of nine innings and scored runs in two of those innings before securing a 2-1 win with Randy Vásquez and the backend of their bullpen closing things out against the Athletics on Wednesday.


 Xander Bogaerts crossed home plate both instances — first during the third inning when Oscar Gonzalez hit a single, and again in the fifth inning due to a sacrifice fly by Gavin Sheets.


 These were the Padres' cleanup hitter and fifth batter, respectively, since second baseman Jake Cronenworth, center fielder Jackson Merrill, and right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. were all out due to injuries.


 Trouble arose for Vázquez only when he issued free bases and completed five innings, permitting one run on one hit prior to being substituted. He had thrown merely 61 pitches and went through the Athletics' lineup twice during this stint.


 Given that his high-impact relief pitchers were well-rested and they had a break on Thursday, Padres manager Mike Shildtm opted to utilize his bullpen for securing the one-run advantage through the last four innings.


 That’s exactly what they’ve been doing all season long.


 Adrián Morejón pitched a flawless sixth inning, followed by Jeremiah Estrada throwing a perfect seventh. Jason Adam then maintained the shutout with a quiet eighth, and Robert Suárez secured a clean ninth for his league-best sixth save. This marked his sixth consecutive hitless frame to begin the season, an unprecedented feat among San Diego Padres pitchers.


 These four relief pitchers have only appeared in games won by the Padres this season. Notably, no reliever for the Padres has allowed a lead to be overturned so far this season.


 This marked the Padres' fourth come-from-behind win, and they extended their record to 5-0 in one-run contests.


 Despite this, their MLB-leading 10th win in 13 games stood out from the rest due to those who were absent and those who stepped up.


 Merrill, who occupied the fourth or fifth batting position during the initial 10 games of the season and currently tops the Padres in nearly all offensive statistics, sat out the third game of what will amount to at least nine games sidelined due to a strained right hamstring.


 Tatis, who bats at the top of the order but ranks second to Merrill in nearly all offensive stats, was benched following his exit from Tuesday’s contest due to discomfort in his left shoulder that he initially felt during a swing.


 Cronenworth, who has primarily batted fifth or seventh with an on-base percentage of .409, was also sidelined. After swinging exacerbated the injured region on his right side—where he had been struck by a pitch two days prior—he left Tuesday’s game.


 It was mentioned that both Tatis and Cronenworth had reached a stage where they might realistically be ready to come back on Friday for the game against the Rockies at Petco Park. According to Shildt, although Tatis was an option as a pinch hitter, they decided to let him rest for the day.


 When they were not present, Gonzalez took over in right field, Jose Iglesias played at second base, and Lockridge was positioned in center field.


 The Athletics jumped ahead with a score of 1-0 in the second inning when Vásquez's control wavered, just as it had at times throughout his three appearances this season.


 The right-handed pitcher required only six pitches to complete the first inning before walking Shea Langeliers with just four pitches at the beginning of the second inning, followed by JJ Bleday who was issued a walk after eight pitches.


 These two walks were his tenth and eleventh of the season, and they proved to be quite detrimental.


 Jacob Wilson’s hit to right field marked the first time a right-handed batter had gotten a hit off Vasquez in 16 at-bats this season. Following him up, Luis Urias smacked a fly ball to center field, and Langeliers narrowly beat out center fielder Brandon Lockridge’s throw to home plate.


 Vásquez (1-1, 1.72) would also retire the next eight batters in a row before issuing a walk to Urias with two outs in the fifth inning.


 The Padres' rally began with three key players (Sheets, Gonzalez, and Iglesias), positioned centrally in their batting order, joining the squad during spring training on minor league deals.


 Following Sheets' strikeout and Gonzalez hitting a fly ball which was caught near the warning track in right field when Bogaerts and Manny Machado were on base during the first inning, Gonzalez managed to tie the game at 1-1 with his two-out single in the third inning.


 Bogaerts started the fifth inning with his third hit, a double along the left-field line. He advanced to third base due to a flyout by Machado and came home to score on Sheets' fly ball to center field.

 It stood as a brief instance of elegance amid an otherwise stressful evening where the positive atmosphere from baseball’s comeback was dampened by the host team's challenging beginning.


 A day that started with a plane flying a banner above, asking owner Bob Nutting to sell the team, and featured manager Derek Shelton getting jeered during pre-game announcements concluded with the Pirates repeating their usual errors.

However, this marks the first instance where cries of "sell the team" have echoed through the stands during what was meant to be a joyous occasion. The volume reached its peak following consecutive defensive errors in the third inning, which aided Aaron Judge and the Yankees in pulling ahead swiftly.


 By the time the seventh-inning stretch rolled around, a substantial portion of the approximately 37,000 attendees were making their way across the Clemente Bridge to avoid both the rain and the ensuing traffic jam.

 Initial reports haven’t been promising. Pittsburgh’s hitting has only managed a .204 average, and two-time All-Star closer David Bednar was sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis following his rough outing at the start of the season.

 The Pirates often claim they must secure victories through small plays and executing minor details consistently to stay competitive. However, they aren’t managing to do so reliably enough. Mistakes on the basepaths occur frequently. In the fifth inning, when trailing by six runs, Isiah Kiner-Falefa was caught stealing first base—a move Shelton deemed as unacceptable.


 The performance in the outfield has been inconsistent at best. Recently signed Alexander Canario misplayed a ball in the third inning, allowing Trent Grisham to advance an additional base. Later in the game, Grisham scored as a result of Oswaldo Cabrera’s hit.


 "We need to tidy that up," Shelton stated.


 Maybe even more importantly, the Pirates need to figure out how to prevent situations from getting out of hand.


 McCutchen, who remains the final remaining connection to Pittsburgh’s frequent postseason appearances between 2013 and 2015 when he was also considered one of baseball's most prominent players, hopes that the first ten days of the season will ultimately prove to be fortuitous for him.


 The past few years have seen strong beginnings, yet they ultimately didn't work out well for us," he stated. "Indeed, our team is currently facing some challenges, but we mustn't let them stray too far from our path. We'll emerge stronger on the other side.


 The Pittsburgh franchise has been undergoing a comprehensive restructuring since the autumn of 2019 when they appointed Shelton along with general manager Ben Cherington. Throughout this period leading up to the 2025 season, everyone within the organization—from owner Bob Nutting down to GM Ben Cherington and including National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes—has consistently emphasized their readiness to secure victories.


 The external anxiety is evident. McCutchen is working to ensure it doesn't seep into a locker room that is still attempting to "gel."


 When this occurs—and it surely will—you can only hope that the performance follows suit, which typically it does," stated the 2013 NL MVP. "We must continue pushing forward collectively, without allowing external distractions to impact us.

The first six batters managed five runs off Cardinal’s starting pitcher Erick Fedde, with Trevor Story contributing a three-run blast and Wilyer Abreu adding a solo shot consecutively.


 The five-run, four-hit opening frame stood out as the most significant inning of the early Red Sox campaign. Every batter in the lineup got their chance at bat. This marked the first occasion since 1977 that Boston saw consecutive home runs during a home opener.


 The Sox recorded four innings where they scored multiple runs and ended the night on Friday with a total of 16 hits. Seven team members participated in multi-hit performances during the game.


 2) Alex Bregman kicked off the first-inning rally with an RBI double to left field, making for a impressive start at Fenway Park as part of the Red Sox. In this game, he secured two hits along with a walk, brought home one run and crossed the plate himself, finishing up 2-for-4 overall. Given some more time, it appears only natural that he'll begin having great success against the Green Monster.


 3) The first game at home for Walker Buehler turned out differently. Even though he started with a five-run advantage early on, Buehler allowed the Cardinals to close the margin several times, resulting in an underwhelming performance overall.


 Iván Herrera hit a three-run homer, and Brendan Donovan added a solo shot against Buehler, who conceded five earned runs on seven hits over five innings. In his first two appearances with the Red Sox, his ERA stands at 8.68.


 4) Abreu kept up his impressive mimicry of Tyler O’Neill by hitting a home run in the opening game at home, following his two homers from Opening Day in Texas. Another strong performance with multiple hits for Abreu (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) brought his averages to .524 batting and an astounding 1.691 ERA over seven games. This is quite commendable for the number six spot in what seems to be a formidable lineup. Abreu topped the Red Sox hitters in total hits.


 5) The enthusiastic "Raffy! Raffy!" chants from a substantial group of Red Sox supporters when Rafael Devers came up to bat during the first inning were no accident. That game proved successful for him. He managed to reach base safely four times—first with walks in his initial two at-bats followed by singles in both the sixth and seventh innings. Over his past three matches, Devers has secured a total of eight bases-on-balls.


 6) It was intriguing to observe
 reserve catcher Carlos Narváez included in the lineup
 For the second consecutive day, he was teamed up with Buehler for the second start in a row for the right-hander. Manager Alex Cora stated that Narváez started instead of Connor Wong because Wong would be playing on both Saturday and Sunday.


 Narváez had a strong offensive performance, managing to reach base four times throughout the game. In the third inning, he added an insurance run by driving home Kristian Campbell with an RBI single following two outs. Later, after drawing two walks, Narváez smashed an RBI double, contributing to Boston’s total of 13 runs for the day. His batting average now stands at .400, having set new personal bests in hits, RBIs, walks, and times on base during Friday’s contest.


 7) On several occasions, the Red Sox' pitching team appeared to be allowing the Cardinals back into the game. In the fourth inning, St. Louis narrowed their lead down to just two runs thanks to Herrera’s home run. Later, when the Red Sox were ahead 13-6 in the ninth inning, they allowed three swift runs from St. Louis (thanks partly to two of their own errors), which prompted them to bring Aroldis Chapman into the game against Cooper Criswell. With Herrera stepping up to bat as the potential tying run, he ended up grounding into a double play, thus concluding the match.


 8) The Boston team has consistently excelled in their home-openers throughout their history, which carried over into Friday's game. Following this victory, they have now achieved an impressive record of 73 wins and 52 losses for home openers, with a recent streak of 14 victories in their past 21 games. The Cardinals plan to counter with righty Andrew Pallante (1-0, 3.60 ERA), and the game is scheduled to start at 4:10 p.m. ET.

 faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the series finale in a matchup that looked lopsided in the Dodgers’ favor. Two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell was on the bump for the Dodgers against injury replacement call-up Bryce Elder who has struggled since June of 2023.


 As it turns out, both starting pitchers lasted for less than half of the game, both pitching 4.0 innings.


 The Braves come up to hit first and for the second night in a row scored on an error to take the 1-0 lead. Ozuna and Olson each walked which allowed Ozuna to score on a throwing error from Max Muncy. Nick Allen, who is slowly taking the starting job away from Orlando Arcia, hit a double to make the score 2-0 before the top of the inning ended.


 Bryce Elder made a statement in his return in his first inning. He forced Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts to groundout and then struck out Teoscar Hernández on a sinker that painted the corner.


 The Braves kept the momentum going in the second. Newly acquired Stuart Fairchild reached on an ugly error by Max Muncy (his second in as many innings) to get the ball rolling. He then moved to second on a wild pitch followed by a bunt single from Eli White. Ozzie Albies then came through in a big way with a double to make the score 3-0. Ozuna then walked to load the bases. Austin Riley struck out, but fortunately Matt Olson had a double of his own to plate two and make the score 5-0. Bryan De La Cruz almost came through with a 105.5 MPH rocket off the bat, but it was hit right at Mookie Betts.

 In the subsequent innings, Bryce Elder faced less fortune. He began by walking Michael Conforto. Despite inducing a flyout from Will Smith, Elder conceded a home run to Tommy Edman, extending the lead to 5-2. However, he managed to regain composure afterward, promptly forcing two consecutive groundouts.


 In the third inning, the Braves were unable to score as they went down 1-2-3. Elder returned to pitch the third and seemed much more composed. He struck out Andy Pages and followed up with a flyout against Ohtani and a groundout against Betts.


 The Braves seemed poised to make some progress in the fourth inning. Following a White flyout and an Albies strikeouts, Ozuna secured another walk, which was then accompanied by a Riley single. Nonetheless, Olson couldn’t step up as the key player this time around and grounded out, effectively closing their attempt. This sequence proved sufficient to conclude Snell’s outing for the evening.  During the sixth inning, Chadwick Tromp started things off with a walk after Snell had left the game. With Eli White being substituted by Michael Harris at this point, Harris hit a single, putting runners on base without any outs recorded yet. Next, Albies also got a single, filling the bases for their team without recording an out as well. So here’s the question: Did the Atlanta Braves manage to score during this frame? Not quite; Ozuna flew out to center field, followed by Austin Riley striking out, and finally, Matt Olson hitting a pop-up to shortstop ended the threat.

In summary, Snell concluded the game having allowed five runs along with four walks.  There isn't really such a concept as a crucial match in early April. Playing just five games doesn’t provide sufficient basis for evaluating a team. Nonetheless, during this particular game, there were instances when the situation felt critical.

 Next up were Pete Alonso, Luis Torrens, and Huascar Brazobán, who weighed in before the Mets secured an intense victory over the Marlins in Miami with a score of 6-5.


 Early in the game, the Mets scored against Connor Gillispie thanks to a hit from Juan Soto followed by a double from Pete Alonso. This allowed Soto to make it safely home from first base despite some close calls and thrown-out attempts at tagging him as he slid past. However, they were unable to bring Alonso home from second base, which became a recurring pattern throughout this match.


 Clay Holmes began pitching for the Mets and faced difficulties, particularly during the second inning. With runners loaded and nobody out, the Marlins capitalized when Matt Mervis hit a sacrifice fly, driving in their initial run as Kyle Stowers advanced to third base. Next up was Otto Lopez, who grounded towards third baseman Mark Vientos, whose inaccurate toss allowed Stowers to cross home plate.


 The Mets had additional opportunities early on to add runs, yet they were unable to capitalize. Alonso started off the third inning with another solid double and advanced to third thanks to a sacrifice fly. However, he was left stranded when both Jesse Winker and Vientos failed to connect, striking out consecutively. Then, in the fourth frame, Hayden Senger secured his inaugural major-league hit—a double—but their potential scoring chance fizzled as Francisco Lindor chased an exceptionally tough inside offering, swinging and missing.


 Holmes was substituted when two players were off base at the beginning of the fifth inning from the bottom, marking his second successive start where he failed to finish through the fifth frame. Reed Garrett secured the final out of the fifth and struck out three more in the sixth, navigating around runners on base to achieve a pristine inning.


 The Mets' defense continued to cause problems for them in the seventh inning. A.J. Minter began the frame and faced a challenge from Griffin Conine, who smacked a ground-rule double. This misjudgment left him poorly positioned to make an accurate play home, leading to a hurried overhand toss to Alonso at first, enabling Conine to cross the plate. Following this, with Stanek now pitching, another grounder coupled with a Nick Fortes single brought about their team’s fourth run. Though Lopez might have scored regardless due to momentum alone, Soto mishandled the ball in right field, simplifying what could otherwise been a more challenging scoring opportunity.


 Luis Torrens, substituting for Senger, secured the Mets' fifth hit of the game with a one-out single. Following him, Lindor hit a single to right field, advancing Torrens to first and third bases with one out remaining. Next up, Soto tapped a ball along the foul line near first base, resulting in Torrens getting caught at home plate during the tag-up play. After an extended ten-pitch sequence against Calvin Faucher, Alonso added another powerful blow to his night’s performance with a three-run homer to deep center field.


 Since he was already warming up for some innings, Edwin Díaz came into the game to handle the bottom of the ninth. After Xavier Edwards got an infield single, he managed to swipe a base during the first pitch to Stowers. Following this, a wild pitch sent Edwards all the way to third. Nonetheless, Díaz recovered well enough to fan Stowers. Then, when Conine grounded towards second, Brett Baty caught it but fired off a bad toss over to Torrens; Torrens needed to stretch backward just to apply the tag properly. At first, the umpire ruled that Edwards was safe, which meant the Marlins took a 5-4 lead. Yet, after reviewing via replay, they reversed their decision, keeping things knotted. Subsequently, as Conine tried another stealing move, his effort fell short due to a strong relay from Torrens with support from a solid tag by Baty.


 The Mets were unable to score in the top of the ninth, and José Buttó prevented the Marlins from scoring in the bottom of that inning, leading the game to extend into extra innings. With Luisangel Acuña replacing Baty and serving as the automatic runner at second base, Tyrone Taylor hit a soft single to right field, putting runners on first and second with nobody out. Nevertheless, Torrens, Lindor, and Soto failed to capitalize, and the Mets remained without additional runs.


 The initial pitch delivered by Buttó was bunted by Fortes, advancing free runner Dane Myers to third base. A soft grounder by Eric Wagaman resulted in a tag at home plate for the second out. The inning concluded with Javier Sanoja popping out foul, surprisingly without any runs scoring.


 Xzavion Curry threw the eleventh inning for the Marlins, and Alonso started the frame by drawing a tough walk. Following this, Brandon Nimmo got a base hit which filled up the bases for Jesse Winker. Winker received another walk after getting four consecutive pitches, allowing Soto — who was the designated pinch-runner — to score and secure the lead.


 Next up was Mark Vientos, who hit what appeared to be an obvious double play; however, Edwards fumbled the ball, allowing Alonso to score and giving the Mets a 6-4 lead. Acuña then grounded into a 5-2-3 double play, followed by Taylor flying out to conclude the inning.


 The game had shifted into Danny Young's control, despite him appearing strained during his previous outing on Monday against Miami. During his second pitch, Young allowed Edwards to hit a single, which enabled the free runner Sanoja to score, narrowing the Mets' lead down to just one run. Following this, Young issued a walk to Stowers, placing runners at both bases with nobody out. However, Young managed to recover and recorded a strikeout against Conine, securing the first out before handing over the reins to Huascar Brazobán. Upon taking over, Brazobán forced a fly-out that prompted Edwards to advance to third base via tagging up.


 Lopez was the final chance for the Fish, yet he witnessed a called third strike on the edge of the plate for the third out. Brazobán secured his inaugural career save, the Mets clinched their initial series of the season, and everybody could finally breathe.

 フジテレビ「World　Baseballエンタテイメント　たまッチ！」が23日深夜零時30分から放送され、タイガースの前田健太投手（36）が番組の単独インタビューに応じ、日本球界復帰についても語った。


 「たまッチ！」は2007年から不定期放送されている野球バラエティー。番組開始からリーダーを務めていた中居正広氏（52）は1月に芸能界を引退したが、レギュラー出演していたお笑いコンビ「アンタッチャブル」の山崎弘也（49）と柴田英嗣（49）を中心に番組は存続し、昨年11月以来の放送となった9日深夜からこの日は3週連続の放送となった。


 そのなかで番組スタッフから単独インタビューされた様子がオンエアされたマエケン。不振だった昨季の悔しさや今季に懸ける思いなどを明るい表情で語った。


 現在までに日米通算165勝をマーク。200勝まであと35勝となっている。


 「僕は先発ピッチャーとしてキャリアを築いてきましたし、先発ピッチャーとして200勝したいっていう大きな目標もありますし。それは先発やってないとね、なかなか達成できないものだと思うので今後も先発ピッチャーとしてやっていきたいと思ってます。200勝達成する時は僕は日本で達成したいなっていつも言ってるんですけど。日本のファンの人の前でね、200勝達成できたら一番うれしいこと」


 200勝目は日本で。それは古巣であるカープで…なのか。スタッフが思い切って聞いてみると「言えないことのが多いですね」と笑顔。「全く分かんないんで。僕が自分でチーム決めるわけじゃないですし。オファーいただかないとプレーできないってのが野球選手だと思うんで。僕がね…ね…はい…決められることではないかなと思うんですけど。ただ、オファーもらえるような選手ではありたいなとは思いますし、チームの期待に応えられるような状態をキープできるようなピッチャーではありたいなと思っています」と古巣への思いをにじませていた。

 Según reportó FOX Sports: MLB, el Gerente General de los Orioles, Mike Elias, informó a los medios que Henderson comenzará la temporada en la lista de lesionados debido a una distensión intercostal. Esta noticia ha dejado a los fanáticos de Baltimore con un sabor amargo, ya que el infielder es una pieza clave en las aspiraciones del equipo para este año.

 Henderson, quien tuvo una temporada espectacular en 2024 con un promedio de bateo de .364, 37 jonrones y 92 carreras impulsadas, se ha convertido en el rostro de la nueva era de los Orioles.
