 新宿区は、4月1日からリチウムイオン電池などの小型充電式電池の家庭ごみとしての回収を開始した。週1回、資源の日に資源・ごみ集積所で回収する。


 回収できるのは、小型充電式電池単体で、ニカド電池、ニッケル水素電池、リチウムイオン電池。自転車用バッテリーやコードレス電話などの電池、ワイヤレスイヤホン、小型扇風機、電子タバコなどに使用されている。


 これまでは同電池を捨てる場合は家電量販店などへ持ち込む必要があったが、新宿区では4月1日から、小型家電製品から電池を取り外すことで、資源ごみとして捨てられるようになった。捨てる際は、電池の端子部分やケーブルの差込口にテープを貼って絶縁し、中身の見えるポリ袋に電池のみを入れる。

 同電池が内蔵されたモバイルバッテリーは分解せずに、資源ごみとして回収可能。モバイルバッテリー以外の小型家電製品で、電池を取り外せない場合は資源ごみとして回収不可。金属・陶器・ガラスごみとして月2回捨てられる。


 なお、従来通り家電量販店などに持ち込んで回収してもらうことも可能。ただし変形、膨張している小型充電式電池は、清掃事務所または各清掃センターへ持ち込む必要がある。

 小型充電式電池の1つであるリチウムイオン電池は、過度な力が加わると激しく発熱・発火する恐れがある。近年は、リサイクル処理施設等で火災も急増している。火災を防ぐために、充電できる家電製品を処分する際は、製品の取扱説明書をよく確認し、正しく分別、適切な処理をするよう呼びかけられている。

 Chinese car manufacturer BYD has been the first in the global market to reveal a commercial battery.

 BYD’s latest Super E-Platform provides charging speeds up to 1,000kW, making it four times faster compared to the 250kW charging rates typically seen.

 At a live-streamed event held at the firm’s main offices in Shenzhen,

 BYD stated that large-scale production of the new technology would "entirely address users' concerns about range limitations during travel."


 The initial vehicles to incorporate the super-fast charging technology will be BYD’s newest Han L and Tang L editions, starting off as exclusive to the Chinese market.


 The demand for electric vehicles in China has surged in recent years, with over 20 million battery-operated cars currently in use on the roads.


 BYD has emerged as the top-selling brand in China, making up approximately one-third of electric vehicle (EV) sales within the nation. In the previous year, BYD surpassed Tesla to claim the title of the global leader in EV production, even though it holds a rather small market share in Europe and does not yet have a presence in the U.S.


 According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the worldwide increase in electric vehicle purchases has led to a decline in the demand for vehicles with internal combustion engines.


 The figures showed that

 accounted for 18 percent of all newly purchased vehicles globally in 2023, an increase from 14 percent the previous year.


 In the meantime, the sale of cars with internal combustion engines dropped by twenty-five percent, decreasing from 83.7 million units in 2018 to 62.8 million units in 2023. This indicates that worldwide sales of these polluting vehicles appear to have reached their peak.


 BYD’s newest advancement is anticipated to keep boosting demand; however, the fast-charging system will necessitate specialized charging stations to ensure the quickest recharge times possible.


 During the livestream, the company’s founder, Wang Chuanfu, stated that the starting price for the Han L and Tang L models could be approximately $40,000.

 There's no one-size-fits-all solution for electric vehicle batteries. Battery sizes differ across vehicle categories and in many cases their chemistries vary as well. For battery makers, the goals remain the same: more energy density, faster charging, cost-effectiveness and better safety. But the means of getting there keep changing. Battery scientists in Europe say one way of achieving these goals is a “self-repairing” pack that’s also environmentally friendly.

 — also known as The Foundation for Industrial and Technical Research—experimented with a battery that it claims is more stable than traditional lithium-ion packs and can deliver better driving range with a longer lifespan. It likened this battery to a "sandwich," with the cathode on top, anode at the bottom and separators and binders in between. This analogy can be true of any battery, but here's why this one is different.
 
 
 The cathode reportedly uses lithium-nickel-manganese oxide, which is apparently cobalt-free and contains less nickel and less lithium than traditional EV batteries. This chemistry provides a higher average voltage, which should improve charging times and performance. It also packs more energy into a smaller volume, SINTEF scientist Nils Peter Wagner told British publication

 The anode, on the other hand, is made from a silicon-graphite composite. Battery companies are increasingly exploring
 silicon anodes
 as they remove the inefficiencies of a graphite-heavy anode. Several American battery start-ups, including Amprius, Group14 and Sila Nanotechnologies are exploring silicon anodes. The downside is that Silicon anodes tend to swell during the charge and discharge cycles. But that problem is solved with the graphite composite, which lends the anode strength and stability.
 
 
 There’s also a “super glue” that reportedly repairs minor damage to the cells, akin to a self-sealing car tire. It comes in the form of special binders and separators that hold the battery structure together. In simple terms, a binder is a material that keeps active particles in a battery together, whereas a
 separator
 prevents short circuits, ensuring that the cathode and anode don’t come in contact. Development of the first-generation prototype electrolyte with these materials is already complete and now the focus is on the second-generation cells, according to SINTEF.

 The ultimate step is figuring out how to bring this technology to the market, with plans reportedly underway to scale up production. It’s one thing to innovate in a lab, but applying all of that development to a practical, mass-produced product is another challenge altogether. We’ve seen many battery chemistry breakthroughs over the past few years, but few have made it into the real world.
 
 
 As Bob Lee, president and chief strategy officer of LG Energy Solution in North America said in the

 25일 배터리 산업 소식에 따르면 테슬라는 오는 연말까지 미국 텍사스의 본사에서 운영 중인 4680 배터리 생산 라인(지름은 46mm이고 길이는 80mm인 원통형 모양)에 건식전극 기술을 도입할 계획이다. 이 기술 덕분에 테슬라는 배터리 제조 비용을 최고 30% 줄일 수 있을 것이라고 예상하고 있다.
 
 
 4680 배터리는 기존의 것보다 제조비용을 최고 50% 까지 낮출 가능성이 있으며, 이는 국내 배터리 산업에 혁신적인 전환점을 가져올 것입니다. 또한, 공정 시간을 단축하여 에너지를 더 효율적으로 활용하고 독성을 가진 용매를 완전히 없애는 것이 가능한 것으로 밝혀졌습니다. 이러한 특징들로 인해 우리 나라 내에서 배터리 분야에 큰 변화가 일어날 것으로 보입니다.
 
 
 According to SNE Research, the demand for 4680 batteries is expected to reach 155 GWh by 2025 and 650 GWh by 2030. The 4680 battery, compared to the conventional 2170 battery, boasts an energy capacity five times greater and output six times higher, leading some to consider it a game-changer in the cylindrical cell market.
