 JEDDAH – Despite scarcely engaging with rugby, Saudi Arabia, which will host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, might consider entering a bid for the 2035 Rugby World Cup.
 
 
 
 
 When meeting with reporters at the edge of Sunday's illuminated Formula One Grand Prix in Jeddah, Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal did not dismiss the possibility.
 
 
 
 
 He stated, 'We have an interest in rugby and want to promote the sport locally. Therefore, we established a federation to explore how we can contribute to its development.'
 
 
 
 
 I believe we aren’t quite ready for hosting just yet, but with ‘35 being only a decade away, perhaps it could develop in that direction. If there’s significant interest by then, why not consider it?
 
 
 
 
 According to The Times newspaper report from last month, Saudi Arabia might team up with Qatar, which organized the 2022 FIFA World Cup, along with the United Arab Emirates, to submit a combined bid for either 2035 or 2039.
 
 
 
 
 The statement cited Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai, who is from the UAE, suggesting this might occur.

 In a statement issued by the media advisor to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Alkasim Abdulkadir, the ministry refuted these allegations, stating they were untrue. Additionally, officials from Saudi Arabia confirmed that no such entry restriction has been implemented.
 
 
 The statement indicated that the Saudi Tourism Center refuted the circulating memorandum, which claimed that multiple nations such as Nigeria, Egypt, India, and Pakistan were subject to visa limitations, stating that this information was false.
 
 
 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly refutes the inaccurate assertions being circulated online suggesting that Nigeria has been placed on a list of nations subject to an entry ban into Saudi Arabia starting April 13, 2025.
 
 
 “The Saudi Arabian authorities have officially denied the validity of this viral memo, which falsely claims that several countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, India, Pakistan, and others, would be subject to visa restrictions and an entry ban.
 
 
 "The Saudi Tourism Center has stated that no such directive exists, and the only official travel guidelines presently enforced relate to the Hajj pilgrimage," the statement said.
 
 
 The sole set of official travel guidelines presently enforced pertains to the Hajj pilgrimage, as the statement clarified.
 
 
 The ministry stated that the sole limitation concerns tourists during the Hajj period. Specifically, from April 29 to June 11, 2025, those holding tourist visas will be prohibited from entering Makkah or undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage.
 
 
 Individuals with a Hajj visa alone will be allowed to enter the area during this time frame.
 
 
 The ministry advised Nigerians to ignore the inaccurate document and highlighted the significance of confirming travel details via official sources.
 
 
 Travelers should refer to the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or official Saudi government sources for current and reliable details.
 
 
 For clarification, the sole limitation pertains to those with tourist visas during the Hajj period. People who hold a tourist visa are prohibited from performing Hajj, entering, or remaining in Makkah from April 29 to June 11, 2025 (which corresponds to 01 Thul Qada to 14 Thul Hijjah 1446 AH).
 
 
 The Hajj visa is still the only authorized entry permit for pilgrims during this time.
 
 
 “The ministry urges the public to disregard the misleading document and to always verify travel information from official sources before taking action. Spreading unverified information can cause unnecessary confusion and disrupt travel plans.
 
 
 "For current and reliable details, visitors are encouraged to refer to official Saudi governmental platforms, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or recognized diplomatic avenues," the statement concluded.

 Daichi Kamada, the Japan forward, put it in rather less robotic terms. “We know this isn’t normal and we had a lot of trouble qualifying last time,” Kamada said. “We’re relieved and happy.”

 Two dropped points means they dropped behind Jordan on goal difference into third place, but with three games left there is everything to play for.

 Ongoing until May, this exhibition acts as a cultural stage highlighting the profound historical connections and robust cooperation between the UAE and Oman in safeguarding their heritage and advancing Islamic culture.


 The inauguration began with a address from Jamal Al Moosawi, the Secretary-General of the National Museum of Oman, who greeted Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi and the guests present.


 He stressed that the exhibition showcases the progression and elegance of Islamic art, stemming from the collaboration between the National Museum and the Sharjah Museums Authority.


 Al Moosawi stated that the exhibit comprises three segments: Calligraphic Arts, Sciences and Innovations, and Harmony and Diversity. Each segment showcases items highlighting the profound artistic legacy of Islamic civilization throughout history. He emphasized that this exhibition supports the National Museum’s dedication to cultural diplomacy and promotes an understanding of Islamic heritage.


 Aisha Rashid Deemas, the Director-General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, conveyed her joy over hosting the exhibit at one of Oman’s premier cultural establishments. She emphasized the robust familial bonds and common heritage linking the UAE and Oman, which have been reinforced under the guidance of their respective leaders.


 Deemas highlighted that the trip of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and ruler of Sharjah, to Oman served as significant motivation for arranging this exhibition. This initiative embodies his belief in leveraging culture and art as means to fortify ties and encourage mutual understanding between the two countries.


 The exhibit goes on to showcase the strong historical, cultural, and social ties that have developed over time among different generations.


 She mentioned that the exhibition serves as more than just a stage for showcasing rare Islamic artifacts; it’s also a chance to contemplate the collective historical heritage of the area. The event underscores the remarkable artistry and innovation that characterized Islamic civilization across different periods.


 One of the notable exhibits being shown publicly beyond the borders of the UAE for the very first time include a silver goblet adorned with the imperial insignia of Ottoman Emperor Abdul Hamid II, an elaborately designed hexagonal eating seat made specifically for Al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun, along with the initial Islamic coin struck in Baghdad following the Mongol conquest.


 Other significant displays feature an eleventh or twelfth-century cat-form incense burner and a thirteenth-century gilded earthenware pitcher, showcasing the rich artistic variety within Islamic culture.


 Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi toured the exhibition, receiving detailed explanations about the 82 rare artefacts on display. These include Islamic manuscripts, metalwork, ceramics, and historical coins, each illustrating the artistic evolution and cultural richness of successive Islamic civilisations.

 Salam also said that the Lebanese government “will continue to exert its authority across its territory, with its own forces, according to the Taif Agreement and in a manner that achieves the country’s safety and stability and creates a safe environment for investors and tourists.”
 
 
 The Saudi crown prince for his part underscored that “Saudi Arabia will always stand by Lebanon” and is “keen on the restoration of its prosperity in the various fields, through establishing security and stability and conducting the necessary reforms,” the Premiership said.
 
 
 The crown prince also called for “benefiting from all the chances available today to achieve that and overcome the continuous crises.”
