 He mentioned that he had been teaching his dogs to hunt bears. This practice is against the law in numerous states, but in

 Practicing with their dogs entails cruising about until they pick up the smell of a bear. Once the scent is detected, the hunters release the dogs, allowing them to pursue and corner the bear up a tree.


 Once a bear has been safely treed, the hunter collects his dogs and sets out to locate another quarry. During hunting season, the hunter would secure his dogs beforehand and shoot the bear from its position in the tree.


 Price mentioned that one day during his training session with numerous hounds, they encountered a bear. He stated that he promptly received an alert on his GPS signaling that the bear had been cornered.


 However, when he reached his dogs, he witnessed an astonishing sight.


 'I start making my way up the hill to where the bear is and as I get closer I can tell just by the sound of it that the bear is on the ground,' he said in the video.


 "I start watching and can hardly believe my eyes. A bear is standing upright, sprinting around like Bigfoot. It was really strange," he remarked, as video showed the dogs encircling the vulnerable creature.

 Price strongly feels that the bear was born with just two legs and did not suffer an injury due to a hunter or another creature.

Saat berjumpa dengan Wakil Presiden Gibran Rakabuming Raka yang berkunjung ke Solo pada hari Senin-Kamis tanggal 31 Maret hingga 1 April 2025, dia pun sempat meminta saran tentang cara memberikan nama kepada keenambelas si kembar harimau ini.


 "Kemarin pun saya telah bertanya kepada Mas Gibran saat Mas Wapres berkunjung kemari. Dia menjawab, 'biarkan saja,'" jelasnya.

 Last September, regarding the bear, it was mentioned that the region it was moving through "features some of the most rugged landscapes in the Appalachian Mountains," but they also noted that it "had no difficulty navigating."

 he thought the bear was a male and around eight years old.


 He mentioned that he initially became aware of the bear in 2018, noting that the creature was "much smaller back then and has nearly doubled in size since being noticed for the first time."


 At that stage, he was already moving about independently and wasn’t considered a cub anymore," he clarified. "Typically, a cub remains with its mother for nearly two years.


 Price mentioned that he personally spotted the bear just once, though both he and multiple others have encountered images and footage of it over the years through his trail camera.


 He's highly elusive and seldom seen in person," Price stated. "He resides in the mountains. Whether you believe it or not, he travels quite frequently. His range extends about five miles.

 He mentioned that he had been teaching his dogs to hunt bears. This practice is against the law in numerous states, but in
 West Virginia
 Hunters have the opportunity to train their dogs throughout the entire year.


 Taking their dogs for training includes cruising around till they pick up the smell of a bear. Once they detect it, the hunters release the dogs allowing them to chase after the bear and drive it up a tree.


 Once a bear has been securely treed, the hunter collects his dogs and sets out to locate another quarry. During hunting season, after ensuring the safety of his dogs, he would proceed to shoot the bear that’s perched in the tree.


 Price mentioned that one day as he was training numerous dogs, they encountered a bear. He stated that he promptly received an alert on his GPS suggesting that the bear had been cornered.


 However, when he reached his dogs, he witnessed an astonishing sight.


 "I begin climbing the hill towards where the bear is, and as I approach, I can determine from the noise that it is lying on the ground," he stated in the video.


 "I jump at the sight and can hardly believe my eyes. A bear stands upright, moving about like a Bigfoot. It was surreal," he commented, as video showed the dogs encircling the vulnerable creature.

 Price strongly feels that the bear was born with just two limbs and did not suffer an injury due to a hunter or another creature.


 "I strongly believe he was naturally inclined this way and has triumphed against all odds. The emphasis should be on that. This bear is genuinely remarkable," he stated.


 A second two-legged black bear known as Pedals has been seen numerous times in

 Adult black bears, found across much of North America, usually have the ability to run at speeds between 30 to 35 miles per hour and are also skilled at climbing trees.


 Price mentioned that although he frequently hunts and consumes bear meat, he strongly supports conservation efforts and derives great pleasure from observing bears flourish in their natural habitat.


 'This specific bear holds a special place, and I would never intentionally hunt him,' Price stated.

 世界自然遺産に登録されている鹿児島県・奄美大島の生態系に、危機的な被害をもたらした外来種マングース。毒蛇ハブ対策の「救世主」として、半世紀近く前に野に放たれたが、希少な在来の動物を捕食したり、作物を食い荒らしたりすることが問題となり、一転して「害獣」として駆除の対象に。捕獲専門集団「マングースバスターズ」や関係者の、約３０年にわたる取り組みの結果、環境省は２０２４年９月、根絶を宣言した。


 東京２３区や琵琶湖より広いほどの面積の島で、長期間定着した後の根絶は例がなく、世界各地の外来種対策の参考事例になるとみられる。一方、天敵がいなくなったことで、個体数が回復した国の特別天然記念物アマミノクロウサギによる農業被害が拡大。希少種の保全管理のあり方が新たな課題となっている。

 ▽実は昼行性のマングース、夜行性のハブの天敵にはならず
 


 マングースはイタチに似た細長い体と短い四肢、長い尾が特徴の哺乳類だ。もともと日本にはおらず、ハブやそのエサとなるネズミの駆除を目的に１９１０年、現在のバングラデシュからフイリマングースという種類が沖縄本島に持ち込まれた。


 奄美大島には１９７０年代後半、沖縄本島から数十匹が連れてこられた。１９８３年１月１９日付の奄美地元紙・南海日日新聞によると、旧名瀬市（現奄美市名瀬）の北方の赤崎に「（昭和）５３年から５５年までの３年間に計３０匹のマングースを放し繁殖状況を見守ってきた」。記事では男性の実名入りで「ハブ対策と繁殖実験を兼ねて放した」と報じられている。


 だが、人知の浅はかさが露呈する。マングースは昼間に行動する昼行性だ。一方、ハブは夜行性。そもそも両者が遭遇することはまれで、マングースはハブの天敵になどならなかったのだ。


 すれ違い生活のハブの代わりにマングースのエサとなったのが、アマミノクロウサギやケナガネズミ、アマミイシカワガエルなどの希少な在来種だった。マングース導入は完全に裏目に出て、奄美の生態系は急激にバランスを崩し始めた。


 
 ▽サツマイモ、ひな、ウサギ、被害拡大で脅かされる固有種

 放獣からまもなく、マングースによる被害が確認されるようになった。赤崎のある島北西部で、サツマイモやジャガイモ、スイカなど根菜類や地上で実を付ける作物はことごとく食い荒らされ、鶏舎からはひながさらわれた。


 農家は自衛策として箱わなを仕掛けて捕獲したが、すぐに手に負えなくなった。栽培する作物を根菜類から、マングースが食べない葉物に切り替えもしたが、侵入を防ぐための網やビニールハウスを破る乱行ぶりに、お手上げ状態だった。


 奄美におけるマングースの生息状況を、最初に調査したのは地元の奄美哺乳類研究会。１９９１年発行のリポートによると、奄美固有の野鳥で、国の天然記念物ルリカケスのひなを襲った目撃例があるとして「在来種個体群に対し、マングースが少なからず影響を与えている可能性がある」と指摘。国や県による駆除などの対応を求めた。


 この頃、固有種の宝庫として知られる奄美市名瀬の金作原では被害が顕著になってきた。研究会メンバーで、環境省奄美群島国立公園管理事務所の阿部慎太郎さん（６１）は「マングースの分布が広がるにつれ、たくさんいたアマミノクロウサギなどが見られなくなった。これはまずいと思った」と振り返った。


 
 ▽追いつかない捕獲

 赤崎地区がある旧名瀬市は１９９３年１０月、マングース捕獲者を募集し、駆除に乗り出した。島内の他町村も同調し、島を挙げた態勢となったが、課題は山積していた。マングースは当時の鳥獣保護法により保護動物扱いで、捕獲者を増やしても全体の捕獲数の上限があり、集めたマンパワーを生かし切れなかった。


 また、１匹数千円での買い上げ方式のため、捕獲しやすい農作地帯でわなを仕掛ける人がほとんどで、個体密度が低い山の中に入ってまで捕る人はまれだった。捕獲開始当時の生息数は１万匹以上と推定されたが、繁殖数に捕獲数が追いつかない状態で、抑制どころか島全体へのまん延が懸念される状況となっていった。


 
 ▽捕獲に注力できるように、バスターズ結成

 駆除開始から３年後の１９９６年、環境庁（当時）は奄美大島の生態系保全に向け、マングースの駆除や個体数制御に関するモデル設計に着手。２０００年度から本格的な防除事業が始まった。


 山中の駆除に向けた大きな一手が講じられたのは、外来生物法が施行された２００５年のことだった。捕獲者の待遇を、捕獲した個体を定額で買い取る報奨金制度から、一般財団法人の嘱託職員として月給を支払う雇用制度へと切り替えたのだ。捕獲数が少なくても、手取りは保障されるため、山中の活動に注力できる。マングースを駆除し、環境を元に戻すことを目標に結成されたのがバスターズだ。


 ２００５年度から、環境省の防除事業を受託する一般社団法人自然環境研究センターが全国から募集し、１２人でスタート。２０１２年には最多の５４人が雇用された。


 ２００７年からは、わなを避けるマングースを捕る探索犬を導入。バスターズの後藤義仁さん（４９）は「道なき道に高密度にわなをかけて見回ったり、探索犬とともに森や崖などを歩き回ったりした。ハブやハチと遭遇して被害に遭ったり、崖から転落しそうになったりした人もいる」と語る。


 
 ▽わなに別の動物が…「混獲」問題を解決

 マングースの捕獲が進み始めたことに伴い、個体数が回復してきた在来種がわなにかかってしまう「混獲」が増え始めた。問題となったのは捕殺用の筒わなだ。


 エサを探すために、狭い所に頭を突っ込むマングースの習性を突いたもので、エサのにおいにつられて筒に頭を入れると、中のバネで首が挟まる。天然記念物のルリカケスをはじめアマミトゲネズミやケナガネズミなどが頻繁にかかってしまうようになった。


 バスターズはわなの改良に着手。内部の仕掛けや筒の長さなどに試行錯誤を重ね、２００８年、在来種がかかりにくいわなが完成した。後藤さんは「希少種が捕獲されるのは本末転倒。みんなで考えた混獲対策のアイデアを技術のメンバーが形にしてくれた」と話す。


 駆除が進み、個体数が減少するに従って、２００２年から２００６年まで２千匹台だった捕獲数は２００７年から千匹以下に。２０１４年には百匹以下、２０１８年の１匹を最後に「捕獲ゼロ」が続き、根絶宣言に至った。


 
 ▽「マングースを持ってこなかったら、マングースを殺さなくて良かった」

 自治体による駆除を含め、根絶までのマングース捕獲数は約３万２６００匹。環境省の対策事業費は計３５億７千万円に上る。マングース防除事業は沖縄本島で続いている一方、奄美大島では新たな外来種の侵入警戒に移っている。


 奄美群島国立公園管理事務所の阿部さんは「人がマングースを持ってこなかったら、たくさんのマングースや在来種を殺さなくてよかった。人が起こしたことの尻ぬぐいをバスターズがしてくれた。外来生物が起こした問題とその代償をきちんと考え、島の野生生物のあるべき姿を維持するためにこれからどうしたらいいか考えてほしい」と訴える。


 沖縄大の山田文雄客員教授（７２）によると、マングースは１９世紀にハワイやカリブ海の島々、アフリカの島などでネズミや毒ヘビ対策で導入され、奄美や沖縄同様、希少種の絶滅や生態系危機を引き起こした。「マングース根絶は難しく、奄美大島の事例は海外でも驚きと称賛をもって迎えられている」という。


 一方、アマミノクロウサギをはじめとする希少種の回復に伴い、交通事故や農業被害、居住地への侵入などの問題が新たに発生している。山田客員教授は「希少種が増えることで良いことも悪いことも起きる。行政も住民も、共存するために適切な保全管理策を取ってほしい」と願った。

 Have you ever witnessed a horse running freely? It’s an uncommon and awe-inspiring scene. Thankfully, there are several locations where you can yet experience the sheer splendor of wild horses—untamed and magnificent—as they gallop over the terrain.


 Although often called "wild," the free-ranging horses found throughout the United States are actually considered feral since their ancestors were domesticated. These equines mostly trace back to beasts that broke away from Spanish conquistadors, U.S. Cavalry troops, Native Americans, or cattle herders and managed to thrive in nature long enough to reproduce. You can find these creatures roaming over vast prairies, rugged mountain ranges, and sandy shores all around America; however, their population today is significantly smaller compared to historical times.


 Impressive and robust, horses are truly magnificent creatures. Despite the fact that areas where they can run wild and free have become scarce, there are multiple locations in the Southern regions that permit tourists to observe them from afar.

 Recently, the Cumberland Island horse population has become entangled in a legal dispute. These animals receive no management from organizations or park services, leading to scarce resources such as food, water, and veterinary attention. Groups dedicated to animal welfare are striving to secure better support for this wild herd, whose life expectancy is significantly shorter compared to that of an average horse.


 They can be clearly spotted along Cumberland's shoreline, feeding among the sand dunes where they munch on sea oats or scrawny plants covering the island’s 18 miles of unspoiled coastline. These animals frequently wander through the remains of ancient tabby structures, sometimes accompanied by their young. Visitors are advised not to approach them closely. Although the horses might seem friendly, they tend to be quite erratic and are better observed from a slight distance.

 oversees the care and well-being of the horses. Based in the Historic Old Village of Corolla, visitors can contribute to their initiatives and gain knowledge about the Banker horse breed.


 On Shackleford Banks, which is the southernmost island of the Outer Banks, there is a group of wild horses. Since this location is approximately three miles offshore from the primary coastline, you must use a boat to approach closely enough for viewing. Additionally, a smaller band of these animals resides within an enclosed 180-acre sanctuary on Ocracoke Island.

 From the outset, you find yourself enveloped in the vivid environment of the dense mountain forest surrounding Kilimanjaro’s base in Tanzania. This warm and moist region, situated between 1,800 and 2,800 meters elevation, boasts an abundant variety of flora including towering ferns, cascading lichens, and stately trees. As you progress, expect to encounter the lively calls of colorful avian species as well as glimpses of frequently seen blue monkeys and colobus monkeys native to these woodlands.

 Between approximately 2,800 and 4,000 meters above sea level, one can find heath and moorlands.

 When you exit the rainforest, you arrive at a moorland plateau blanketed with heather, situated between 2,800 and 4,000 meters above sea level. Here, the air turns cooler by several degrees, transforming the scenery entirely; forests yield to resilient bushes and native flora like colossal groundsel and towering lobelias. Meandering paths traverse undulating terrain dotted with flowering heather, providing unobstructed vistas of the valley floors beneath.

 Between 4,000 and 5,000 meters lies the alpine desert region.

 As elevation rises, plant life becomes sparse. Situated between 4,000 and 5,000 meters lies the alpine desert zone, characterized by its dry, stony terrain dotted with volcanic stones. Harsh climate patterns, remnants of old lava eruptions from the nearby volcano, along with insufficient oxygen levels lend this region a lunar appearance. Notably, within this section resides one of the most striking landmarks on your journey: the awe-inspiring Barranco Wall—a towering rock formation measuring nearly 300 meters in height—which can only be navigated via a slender trail, proceeding in a line as climbers hold onto the precipice for support.

 At an altitude of 5,000 meters, you'll find glaciers and permanent snow cover.

 As you approach the peak, climbing higher than 5,000 meters, you reach an area covered with eternal snow and ice fields. Despite their recent retreat due to climate change, Kilimanjaro’s glaciers remain awe-inspiring. Particularly striking is the sight of the Rebmann Glacier on the mountain’s southern slope, offering climbers some of the most unforgettable moments during their ascent.

 Around 5,895 meters high, the crater along with the breathtaking panorama from the summit offers a stunning vista.
 </h2>


 
 After several hours of hiking, you're nearly at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Often, the journey to the Kibo crater begins during the night so that climbers arrive at the edge of the caldera just as the sun rises. From there, it’s merely a 200-meter stroll across the crater—a short one-hour walk—to get to Uhuru Peak, which stands tall at 5,895 meters above sea level. The vista from the peak is absolutely stunning. With good visibility, you can gaze out over vast expanses below.
