 In September, regarding the bear, it was mentioned that the region it was moving through "features some of the most rugged landscapes in the Appalachian Mountains," but it was also noted that this didn’t “pose any difficulty for it.”

 he thought the bear was a male and around eight years old.


 He mentioned that he initially became aware of the bear in 2018, noting that the creature was "much smaller back then and has nearly doubled in size since being seen for the first time."


 At that stage, he was already moving about independently and wasn’t considered a cub anymore," he clarified. "A cub typically remains with its mother until they’re almost two years old.


 Price mentioned that he personally spotted the bear just once, though both he and multiple others have encountered it frequently through photographs and video footage captured using his trail camera over the years.


 He's highly elusive and seldom seen in person," Price stated. "He resides in the mountains. Whether you believe it or not, he travels quite frequently. His range spans about five miles.

 video from 2022.


 He mentioned that he had been teaching his dogs to hunt bears. This practice is against the law in numerous states, but in
 West Virginia
 , hunters can train their dogs year round.


 Practicing with their dogs entails cruising about until they pick up the smell of a bear. Once the scent is detected, the hunters release the dogs, allowing them to pursue and corner the bear up a tree.


 Once a bear has been safely treed, the hunter collects his dogs and sets out to locate another quarry. During hunting season, the hunter would secure his dogs beforehand and shoot the bear from its position in the tree.


 Price mentioned that one day during his training session with numerous hounds, they encountered a bear. He stated that he promptly received an alert on his GPS signaling that the bear had been cornered.


 However, when he reached his dogs, he witnessed an astonishing sight.


 'I start making my way up the hill to where the bear is and as I get closer I can tell just by the sound of it that the bear is on the ground,' he said in the video.


 "I start watching and can hardly believe my eyes. A bear is standing upright, sprinting around like Bigfoot. It was really strange," he remarked, as video showed the dogs encircling the vulnerable creature.

 Price strongly feels that the bear was born with just two legs and did not suffer an injury due to a hunter or another creature.


 "I strongly believe he was naturally this way and has defied all expectations. The emphasis should be on that. This bear is genuinely incredible," he stated.

 When Stéphanie Bigras dubbed her fluffy Bichon-Shih Tzu cross "Batman," she never dreamed he would turn into a genuine life-saving hero.

 Now, both valiant canines have secured their place in the
 Quebec's Animal Hall of Fame.


 On Friday afternoon, seven-year-old Archie and three-year-old Batman received their awards during a ceremony held annually by the Association des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (AMVQ) at the Montréal Palais des congrès.


 Both canines appeared delighted to receive their accolades, swinging their tails as they stepped onto the platform.


 Bigras said she was “so touched” by Batman’s bravery after he saved her life in a house fire in February 2023.


 She had left her air fryer on her stovetop, which she accidentally turned on when trying to bake a pizza.


 “She mentioned going downstairs to fold laundry,” she explained, stating that she had forgotten about the pizza. According to Bigras, she lacks a sense of smell, which is why she didn’t detect any smoke, despite her kitchen being consumed by fire.


 "(Batman) began to yap oddly. Given we're accustomed to our pets, I can discern their barking patterns, yet this didn't seem normal. It sounded far more urgent," Bigras explained.


 When she went to check on Batman upstairs, she saw a fire had spread from her stovetop to her kitchen cabinets, and luckily managed to escape with Batman and her cat through the back alley.


 Her family home was demolished and required nine months for reconstruction, yet Batman had rescued her from death.


 In June 2024, the second heroic dog named Archie was out for a stroll with his owner, Trottier, when he abruptly darted into a shrub over 100 meters ahead and started barking intensely.


 Trottier mentioned that this behavior was out of character for Archie, who he characterized as a "very well-behaved pet."


 When Trottier finally reached the golden doodle, he found an elderly woman in her 50s sprawled on the ground, hardly aware of anything around her.


 "I recall it being an extremely hot day—around 40 degrees," Trottier stated, adding that he thinks the woman was experiencing heatstroke.


 Thanks to Archie’s intuition, Trottier managed to dial 911, and the emergency medical team showed up within minutes.


 Archie and Batman are the 55th and 56th outstanding dogs to be inducted into the Quebec Animal Hall of Fame, joining alongside six cats and two horses.


 The award ceremony was established in 1998 by Dr. Michel Pepin, a veterinarian and communication specialist with the AMVQ, drawing inspiration from the Canadian Animal Hall of Fame.


 Although this year’s honorees are both household pets, veterinarian Valérie Bissonnette from the AMVQ noted that working service animals and police K-9 units typically receive these awards.


 "It simply underscores the significance of their efforts and highlights how truly irreplaceable these non-human beings are," stated Bissonnette as he bestowed the awards upon the two dogs.


 She pointed out that it is less common for two "heroes," or lifesaving animals, to be awarded the prize.


 True heroes aren't all that common. It's not an everyday occurrence for someone to be nominated for a heroic role.


 The AMVQ awards ceremony also recognized an organization, La clinique des jeunes de la rue, presenting them with a $1,000 cash award during the Friday event in honor of their remarkable efforts in assisting vulnerable and homeless young people with pet care.


 "We understand that the affection of a pet owner isn’t determined by their wealth," she stated.

 He mentioned that he initially became aware of the bear in 2018, noting that the creature was "much smaller back then and has nearly doubled in size since being seen for the first time."

 Price mentioned that he personally encountered the bear just once, though both he and multiple others have spotted it many times through photographs and video footage captured using his trail camera over the years.


 He's extremely elusive and seldom seen in person," Price stated. "He resides in the mountains. Whether you believe it or not, he travels quite frequently. His range extends about five miles.

 He mentioned that he had been teaching his dogs to hunt bears. This practice is against the law in numerous states, but in

 Hunters have the opportunity to train their dogs throughout the entire year.


 Practicing with their dogs includes cruising about until they pick up the smell of a bear. Once scented, the hunters release the dogs to pursue and tree the bear.


 Once a bear has been securely treed, the hunter collects his dogs and sets out to locate another quarry. During hunting season, after ensuring the bear is safely up the tree, the hunter ties up his dogs prior to taking aim at their arboreal prize.


 Price mentioned that one day as he was training his numerous dogs, they encountered a bear. He stated that he promptly received an alert on his GPS suggesting that the bear had been cornered.


 However, when he reached his dogs, he witnessed an astonishing sight.


 "I begin climbing the hill towards where the bear is, and as I approach, I can determine from the noise that the bear is lying on the ground," he explained in the video.


 "I start watching and can hardly believe my eyes. A bear is standing upright, moving around like a Bigfoot. It looked really strange," he said, as video showed the dogs encircling the vulnerable creature.

 Price strongly feels that the bear was born with just two legs and did not suffer an injury due to a hunter or another creature.


 "I strongly believe he was naturally this way and has conquered every challenge. The emphasis should be on that. This bear is genuinely incredible," he stated.


 Another two-legged black bear known as Pedals has been seen numerous times in
 New Jersey
 before
 He passed away during a hunting trip in 2016.

 Adult black bears, found across much of North America, usually have the ability to run at speeds between 30 to 35 miles per hour and are also skilled at climbing trees.


 Price mentioned that although he frequently hunts and consumes bear meat, he also supports conservation efforts and enjoys observing bears flourishing in their natural habitat.


 'This specific bear holds a special place, and I would definitely not hunt him intentionally,' Price stated.

 Untuk menyambut kehadiran tiga anggota baru, manajemen Solo Safari merayakannya dengan menampilkan proses penyusuan anak binatang di area safari.

 Pada rentang waktu antara pukul 10:00 WIB sampai dengan 10:30 WIB serta sesi pendidikan berlangsung dari pukul 14:00 WIB s.d 14:30 WIB di Exhibite Benggala yang akan dilangsungkan mulai tanggal 1 hingga 6 April tahun 2025. Acara-acara ini akan dibawakan oleh
 animal keeper.


 Sebelumnya, tiga anak harimau tersebut tidak memiliki nama khusus dan disebut sebagai Anak A, Anak B, dan Anak C. Tetapi pada hari Rabu, tanggal 2 April 2025, selama kunjungan ke Taman Satwa Solo Safari, Wali Kota Solo Respati Ardi secara resmi mengumumkan nama-nama bagi mereka yang berumur sekitar 3 bulan. Nama-namanya adalah Bantolo, Tirto, serta Maruto.

 Respati mengatakan bahwa penamaan bagi tiga anak harimau Bengal tersebut didasarkan pada filosofi Jawa.

Saat berjumpa dengan Wakil Presiden Gibran Rakabuming Raka yang berkunjung ke Solo pada hari Senin-Kamis tanggal 31 Maret hingga 1 April 2025, dia pun sempat meminta saran tentang cara memberikan nama kepada keenambelas si kembar harimau ini.

 眠るきなりちゃんを見つめるくうすけちゃん


 Xアカウント「せこなお」に登場した、猫の「きなり」ちゃんと「くうすけ」ちゃん。きなりちゃんが飼い主さんの服の中に入り、お顔だけ出して眠っていたのだとか。


 すると、まるで「やめなさい」とでも言うかのように、くうすけちゃんがきなりちゃんに猫パンチをしたのだそうです。


 とても優しい猫パンチだったそうで、きなりちゃんはそのままくつろいだ様子だったといいます。もしかしたら、くうすけちゃんもかまってほしかったのかもしれませんね。

 他の投稿でも、くうすけちゃんがきなりちゃんに猫パンチしている姿が見られました。しかし、いずれも優しい猫パンチ。くうすけちゃんなりの、きなりちゃんへの『指導』だそうです。


 多少の上下関係はあるのかもしれませんが、2匹は仲が良いことが他の投稿からうかがえました。とくに温かい日のくつろぎ方がそっくりだったのです。きなりちゃんもくうすけちゃんも香箱座りで目を閉じ、ゆったりと過ごしているそうです。


 仲が良いからこそ、くうすけちゃんの猫パンチにも、猫同士のルールや意味があるのかもしれませんね。

 恐らく『トラ柄の猫』に遭遇したことのない人はいないはず。猫に詳しくない人でも一度はどこかで見かけたことがあり、何となく＂猫といえばこの柄＂というイメージがあるでしょう。


 いわば＂定番模様＂ともいうべきトラ柄ですが、なぜ人々の中に定着するほど数が多いのでしょうか。また、毛色による性格の違いはあるのでしょうか。


 ここでは、知っているようで知らない『トラ柄』の豆知識を3つ紹介いたします。

 1.『キジトラ』はイエネコのルーツ
</h2>

 私達が日頃接している猫は＂イエネコ＂と呼ばれる種。そして、その祖先はリビアヤマネコです。


 実は、リビアヤマネコから派生した最初の猫が『キジトラ』だといわれています。つまり、イエネコのルーツというわけです。三毛猫はもちろんのこと、白黒猫やサビ猫も、その先祖は皆キジトラになります。


 なぜキジトラが根強く子孫を残し続けることができたかというと、砂漠においてカモフラージュができたからです。


 いつの時代も環境に適応し、生き延び続けたキジトラは、現代においても頻繁に出会うことができる猫として人々に愛されてします。

 2.トラ柄は3パターンある
</h2>

 イエネコの元祖はキジトラですが、トラ柄の猫は全部で3パターンです。ここからは、『○○トラ』と呼ばれる猫達の特徴を紹介していきます。

 キジトラ
</h2>

 まずはお馴染みのキジトラから。キジトラは茶色の被毛をベースとし、そこに黒い縞模様が入っています。柄の入り方がキジ（雌鳥）に類似していることからこの名が付けられました。


 基本的にキジトラは野生の本能が強く、家族以外の人物には警戒心が強い傾向にあります。ただし一度心を許せば甘えん坊と化すため、虜になるでしょう。

 茶トラ
</h2>

 被毛のベースはオレンジで、更に濃いオレンジ系の縞模様が入っています。


 実はこの柄を作り出す『O（オレンジ）遺伝子』は、オス猫が誕生しやすいという特徴を持っています。


 『茶トラ猫は大きい』『甘えっ子が多い』という噂は概ね本当で、オス猫ならではの特徴が反映されています。


 更に性格的な部分では、温厚で自身の欲望に忠実な面を持っていることが多い傾向にあります。オス猫は子育てをしない分、少々お子ちゃま的な要素が残りやすいのでしょう。

 ＂魚のサバ＂に似た模様を持つことからこの名が付けられました。


 サバトラは洋猫と日本猫の交配によって誕生したといわれています。ここ数十年という単位で数が増えましたが、キジトラや茶トラと比べると希少なトラ猫です。


 そんなサバトラは、慎重派と活発派に分かれる傾向にあります。より野性的な要素を受け継いだサバトラは警戒心が強く、人と馴染みのあるサバトラは人懐っこい性格になることが多いようです。

 キジトラ・茶トラ・サバトラの被毛をベースに白い部分が加わると、キジ白・茶白・サバ白という呼称になります。


 キジトラは白の割合が多いほどおっとりした性格になる傾向があり、茶白は基本的には茶トラの性格に類似している場合が多いそう。


 サバ白も茶白と同様に、サバトラの気質がそのまま現れる傾向にあり、警戒心が強いコもいれば人懐っこいコもいるようです。

 The research, released on Wednesday, revealed that the rig shark — which is also called the spotted estuary smoothhound — generates clicking noises when it is handled, as stated in the study.


 "Sharks might be more vocal than previously believed," said Carolin Nieder, a marine biologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the principal investigator of the study, during an interview with ABC News.

 Nieder mentioned that the sounds were found "by chance" while she was engaged in another research project examining the auditory abilities of sharks during her doctoral studies at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.


 She mentioned that she had never thought about her studied sharks producing any kind of noise. She believed that sharks were quiet creatures and would not emit intentional sounds.


 Nieder snagged seven rag sharks in New Zealand’s Kaipara Harbour, acquired an additional three from a nearby commercial fisher, and kept them all at a marine lab in “circulating-flow tanks,” according to the report.

 Following a period of adaptation lasting at least seven days, the sharks were moved from their holding tank to an experimental tank for the handling procedures as mentioned in the study.


 While being handled, the rigs were "noticed to inadvertently generate clicking noises beneath the water."


 Typically, the sharks generated "nine clicks during handling underwater" within a span of 20 seconds, according to the study, with a notably higher number of clicks occurring particularly in the initial 10-second period.

 According to the study, the total click duration lasted merely 48 milliseconds.


 Seventy percent of the clicks happened during "calm swaying," twenty-five percent were associated with "vigorous bending of the head and body from side to side," and five percent took place without noticeable bodily movements, according to the study.


 The initial handling sets off a stress-induced startled reaction, causing an increase in clicking behavior. However, as the sharks grow more familiar with being handled, this behavioral response tends to decrease, which explains why the number of clicks declines gradually over time, according to the study.

FURTHER: American swimmer Ali Truwit secured a silver medal at the Paralympics just one year following her leg amputation due to a shark attack.

 Nieder mentioned that the rig is a smaller species of shark and is susceptible to being preyed upon. He suggested that perhaps when such a small shark faces an attack, these clicks might confuse the predator momentarily, allowing the shark a chance to flee.


 Nieder informed ABC News that the rig shark can generate this clicking noise because of its flattened teeth, which are different from those found in other types of sharks.


 Neil Hammerschlag, the president of Atlantic Shark Expeditions—who wasn’t involved in this research—mentioned that he has “often believed these creatures must possess a method for communicating via sounds.”


 "The notion that certain sharks produce sounds is thrilling to me since it implies they might utilize this as a means of communication. It paves the way for further investigation," Hammerschlag stated to ABC News.


 Nieder aims for this preliminary finding to encourage further investigation into shark-related studies, hoping that more individuals will become "interested in questioning prevailing ideas and continue paying attention to other creatures and life forms considered uncommunicative."

 The experts stated that it thus originates from the era when life first appeared on our planet.


 Although fatty acids are a crucial part of cellular structures in earthly life forms, these compounds can also originate from non-biological or purely physical processes, they noted.


 In the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), the research team reported that their achievements open up new possibilities for upcoming missions aimed at discovering evidence of intricate, life-like chemical processes.


 'They noted that organic molecules conserved within old Martian rocks offer essential evidence for Mars’s potential to support life in the past and might serve as chemical indicators of biological activity.'


 The origin of the long-chain alkanes is still unclear; nonetheless, lab tests suggest they come from the saturated version of straight-chain, primary carboxylic acids—also known as fatty acids.


 While abiotic processes may produce these acids, they are regarded as common outcomes of biochemical reactions—both earthly and possibly Martian.


 'Hence, the origin and spread of these molecules are highly relevant in the quest for possible biosignatures on Mars.'


 Exploring more lifelike chemistry on Mars will be among the objectives of the European Space Agency’s forthcoming ExoMars mission, scheduled for launch in 2028.

「救世主」が「害獣」に。奄美大島のマングース根絶から考える、人間の責任

 世界自然遺産に登録されている鹿児島県・奄美大島の生態系に、危機的な被害をもたらした外来種マングース。毒蛇ハブ対策の「救世主」として、半世紀近く前に野に放たれたが、希少な在来の動物を捕食したり、作物を食い荒らしたりすることが問題となり、一転して「害獣」として駆除の対象に。捕獲専門集団「マングースバスターズ」や関係者の、約３０年にわたる取り組みの結果、環境省は２０２４年９月、根絶を宣言した。


 東京２３区や琵琶湖より広いほどの面積の島で、長期間定着した後の根絶は例がなく、世界各地の外来種対策の参考事例になるとみられる。一方、天敵がいなくなったことで、個体数が回復した国の特別天然記念物アマミノクロウサギによる農業被害が拡大。希少種の保全管理のあり方が新たな課題となっている。

 ▽実は昼行性のマングース、夜行性のハブの天敵にはならず
 


 マングースはイタチに似た細長い体と短い四肢、長い尾が特徴の哺乳類だ。もともと日本にはおらず、ハブやそのエサとなるネズミの駆除を目的に１９１０年、現在のバングラデシュからフイリマングースという種類が沖縄本島に持ち込まれた。


 奄美大島には１９７０年代後半、沖縄本島から数十匹が連れてこられた。１９８３年１月１９日付の奄美地元紙・南海日日新聞によると、旧名瀬市（現奄美市名瀬）の北方の赤崎に「（昭和）５３年から５５年までの３年間に計３０匹のマングースを放し繁殖状況を見守ってきた」。記事では男性の実名入りで「ハブ対策と繁殖実験を兼ねて放した」と報じられている。


 だが、人知の浅はかさが露呈する。マングースは昼間に行動する昼行性だ。一方、ハブは夜行性。そもそも両者が遭遇することはまれで、マングースはハブの天敵になどならなかったのだ。


 すれ違い生活のハブの代わりにマングースのエサとなったのが、アマミノクロウサギやケナガネズミ、アマミイシカワガエルなどの希少な在来種だった。マングース導入は完全に裏目に出て、奄美の生態系は急激にバランスを崩し始めた。


 
 ▽サツマイモ、ひな、ウサギ、被害拡大で脅かされる固有種

 放獣からまもなく、マングースによる被害が確認されるようになった。赤崎のある島北西部で、サツマイモやジャガイモ、スイカなど根菜類や地上で実を付ける作物はことごとく食い荒らされ、鶏舎からはひながさらわれた。


 農家は自衛策として箱わなを仕掛けて捕獲したが、すぐに手に負えなくなった。栽培する作物を根菜類から、マングースが食べない葉物に切り替えもしたが、侵入を防ぐための網やビニールハウスを破る乱行ぶりに、お手上げ状態だった。


 奄美におけるマングースの生息状況を、最初に調査したのは地元の奄美哺乳類研究会。１９９１年発行のリポートによると、奄美固有の野鳥で、国の天然記念物ルリカケスのひなを襲った目撃例があるとして「在来種個体群に対し、マングースが少なからず影響を与えている可能性がある」と指摘。国や県による駆除などの対応を求めた。


 この頃、固有種の宝庫として知られる奄美市名瀬の金作原では被害が顕著になってきた。研究会メンバーで、環境省奄美群島国立公園管理事務所の阿部慎太郎さん（６１）は「マングースの分布が広がるにつれ、たくさんいたアマミノクロウサギなどが見られなくなった。これはまずいと思った」と振り返った。


 
 ▽追いつかない捕獲

 赤崎地区がある旧名瀬市は１９９３年１０月、マングース捕獲者を募集し、駆除に乗り出した。島内の他町村も同調し、島を挙げた態勢となったが、課題は山積していた。マングースは当時の鳥獣保護法により保護動物扱いで、捕獲者を増やしても全体の捕獲数の上限があり、集めたマンパワーを生かし切れなかった。


 また、１匹数千円での買い上げ方式のため、捕獲しやすい農作地帯でわなを仕掛ける人がほとんどで、個体密度が低い山の中に入ってまで捕る人はまれだった。捕獲開始当時の生息数は１万匹以上と推定されたが、繁殖数に捕獲数が追いつかない状態で、抑制どころか島全体へのまん延が懸念される状況となっていった。


 
 ▽捕獲に注力できるように、バスターズ結成

 駆除開始から３年後の１９９６年、環境庁（当時）は奄美大島の生態系保全に向け、マングースの駆除や個体数制御に関するモデル設計に着手。２０００年度から本格的な防除事業が始まった。


 山中の駆除に向けた大きな一手が講じられたのは、外来生物法が施行された２００５年のことだった。捕獲者の待遇を、捕獲した個体を定額で買い取る報奨金制度から、一般財団法人の嘱託職員として月給を支払う雇用制度へと切り替えたのだ。捕獲数が少なくても、手取りは保障されるため、山中の活動に注力できる。マングースを駆除し、環境を元に戻すことを目標に結成されたのがバスターズだ。


 ２００５年度から、環境省の防除事業を受託する一般社団法人自然環境研究センターが全国から募集し、１２人でスタート。２０１２年には最多の５４人が雇用された。


 ２００７年からは、わなを避けるマングースを捕る探索犬を導入。バスターズの後藤義仁さん（４９）は「道なき道に高密度にわなをかけて見回ったり、探索犬とともに森や崖などを歩き回ったりした。ハブやハチと遭遇して被害に遭ったり、崖から転落しそうになったりした人もいる」と語る。


 
 ▽わなに別の動物が…「混獲」問題を解決

 マングースの捕獲が進み始めたことに伴い、個体数が回復してきた在来種がわなにかかってしまう「混獲」が増え始めた。問題となったのは捕殺用の筒わなだ。


 エサを探すために、狭い所に頭を突っ込むマングースの習性を突いたもので、エサのにおいにつられて筒に頭を入れると、中のバネで首が挟まる。天然記念物のルリカケスをはじめアマミトゲネズミやケナガネズミなどが頻繁にかかってしまうようになった。


 バスターズはわなの改良に着手。内部の仕掛けや筒の長さなどに試行錯誤を重ね、２００８年、在来種がかかりにくいわなが完成した。後藤さんは「希少種が捕獲されるのは本末転倒。みんなで考えた混獲対策のアイデアを技術のメンバーが形にしてくれた」と話す。


 駆除が進み、個体数が減少するに従って、２００２年から２００６年まで２千匹台だった捕獲数は２００７年から千匹以下に。２０１４年には百匹以下、２０１８年の１匹を最後に「捕獲ゼロ」が続き、根絶宣言に至った。

 自治体による駆除を含め、根絶までのマングース捕獲数は約３万２６００匹。環境省の対策事業費は計３５億７千万円に上る。マングース防除事業は沖縄本島で続いている一方、奄美大島では新たな外来種の侵入警戒に移っている。


 奄美群島国立公園管理事務所の阿部さんは「人がマングースを持ってこなかったら、たくさんのマングースや在来種を殺さなくてよかった。人が起こしたことの尻ぬぐいをバスターズがしてくれた。外来生物が起こした問題とその代償をきちんと考え、島の野生生物のあるべき姿を維持するためにこれからどうしたらいいか考えてほしい」と訴える。


 沖縄大の山田文雄客員教授（７２）によると、マングースは１９世紀にハワイやカリブ海の島々、アフリカの島などでネズミや毒ヘビ対策で導入され、奄美や沖縄同様、希少種の絶滅や生態系危機を引き起こした。「マングース根絶は難しく、奄美大島の事例は海外でも驚きと称賛をもって迎えられている」という。


 一方、アマミノクロウサギをはじめとする希少種の回復に伴い、交通事故や農業被害、居住地への侵入などの問題が新たに発生している。山田客員教授は「希少種が増えることで良いことも悪いことも起きる。行政も住民も、共存するために適切な保全管理策を取ってほしい」と願った。

「救世主」が「害獣」に。奄美大島のマングース根絶から考える、人間の責任

世界自然遺産に登録されている鹿児島県・奄美大島の生態系に、危機的な被害をもたらした外来種マングース。毒蛇ハブ対策の「救世主」として、半世紀近く前に野に放たれたが、希少な在来の動物を捕食したり、作物を食い荒らしたりすることが問題となり、一転して「害獣」として駆除の対象に。捕獲専門集団「マングースバスターズ」や関係者の、約３０年にわたる取り組みの結果、環境省は２０２４年９月、根絶を宣言した。 …
