 Welcome to my daily ChartWatch ASX Scan series. In this segment, I share scan lists derived from various analyses.
 My approach to technical analysis focuses on trend following strategies.
 My aim is to notify you about the most promising upward and downward trends on the ASX.


 A single image can convey a thousand words. But what about 102 images? Today, that’s the number of ASX stocks that appeared on my Downtrend Scan List—though I was quite stringent to ensure I didn’t include an overload.


 Include in this the observation that three of the limited upward trends I managed to identify were in ETFs focused on SHORT SELLING, which paints a rather bleak picture of the current condition of the Australian stock market.


 Please note, though, that very few new entries showed up on today’s Downtrend Scan List. In fact, most of these stocks had been listed for days, weeks, or even months previously. Additionally, keep in mind that numerous companies within this list have made multiple past appearances—such as Mineral Resources (MIN), Coronado Global Resources (CRN), and Woodside Energy Group (WDS)—sometimes appearing there dozens of times over.


 In short: Monitor the Downtrends Scan List as it could assist you in formulating your approach for the upcoming (and subsequent) significant market decline ⬇️.


 Don’t hesitate to use your preferred AI tool to transform the tables provided into lists that you can import onto your favorite trading platform such as TradingView. This way, you’ll effortlessly navigate through various charts and swiftly identify the strongest uptrends and downtrends within the ASX.


 Certain investors opt for purchasing stocks with robust upward trends, while they might choose to steer clear of, liquidate, or even short sell stocks showing significant downward trajectories — however, the application of these lists ultimately depends on your personal strategy!


 Keep in mind that numerous stocks appear on both lists multiple times. Provided they continue to meet my requirements—they will remain listed. However, please remember, there won’t be any alerts when this isn’t the case, so you’ll need to conduct your own investigations whenever a specific trend shifts!

 What do you reckon our opening might look like on Monday considering the type of drop we witnessed today? Is it possible that we've fully processed this tariff information, which means Monday could present a more positive outlook for us since yesterday we handled the shock rather calmly and today we got rattled. Therefore, should we anticipate that this was solely due to international market performance making Monday potentially brighter for us, or do you feel this signals the beginning of yet another corrective phase that may continue moving forward?
 
 
 Rajesh Palviya:
 
 Therefore, undoubtedly, global influences will affect the Monday opening. Considering the current setup, the weekly closing value of Nifty has dropped beneath both the 20-day and 50-day moving averages. However, on the contrary, Bank Nifty presents a distinct situation since it remains steady and stays above multiple moving averages including those representing short-term, medium-term, and long-term trends. This indicates robustness within this sector.
 
 
 However, on the flip side, Nifty has surrendered all its gains and breached the crucial support zone. Therefore, for Monday, 22,760 becomes the key level for Nifty. If it breaches these levels, we might witness an extension of this downward trend, with potential continued selling pressure heading toward 22,500 in the following week.
 
 
 However, at 22,760, if we manage to hang on, we might observe some retracement activity in the upcoming days. During this retracement, 23,100 and 23,200 could serve as key resistance zones for now since they represent significant supply levels within the short-term framework.
 
 
 When examining the larger market, only a handful of sectors exhibit resilience from a technical standpoint. The banking sector, including non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), as well as consumer goods firms in the FMCG industry, show some robustness. Additionally, certain cement stocks are demonstrating similar strength. However, clear leadership across the board remains lacking.
 
 
 The banking sector might provide enough backing for the market to continue climbing. Therefore, for the upcoming week, we can expect a trading range with 22,760 as the lower boundary and 23,200 as the upper limit for Nifty.

Indeed, during today’s trading session, observe how Nifty Bank performed; it remained quite robust despite everything else. Now, following this phase of consolidation, do you believe that banks could spearhead the subsequent upward movement? Additionally, which specific levels should be monitored closely within Nifty Bank?

 Certainly! Yes, Bank Nifty appears quite promising, and I think that when it surpasses 51,700, we might witness an upward movement extending towards 52,000 to 52,200. Given that Bank Nifty remains steady above its 200-day moving average, many major private sector banks show strong signs of accumulation. Additionally, public sector banks have exhibited robust momentum throughout this week. Therefore, Bank Nifty seems likely to bolster the overall market performance, with a suggested protective stop-loss positioned near the 51,000 mark. If current levels hold firm, reaching up to 52,200 within the upcoming week is plausible.

Merely promising great things won’t suffice indefinitely; investors like those at Alphabet and Meta will become progressively anxious about continued expenditures without evident rewards. Should these profits not materialize over the coming couple of years, funding might well diminish.


 Secondly, although Nvidia seems poised to retain its advantage for the near term, technology is an area known for upheaval. A newcomer semiconductor company employing groundbreaking innovations might suddenly rise to prominence. Alternatively, without such fanfare, some of its key customers may create their own chips and transition away from Nvidia despite the protective barrier posed by CUDA that was previously mentioned.

 Nevertheless, only a handful of businesses have shown the foresight that Nvidia possesses. Nvidia should be capable of adjusting to future obstacles. While things certainly won’t always go smoothly, I believe that as time progresses, people’s demands for flawlessness will diminish, allowing Nvidia’s profits to expand significantly. Moreover, since the company’s stock value recently dropped, leading to one of its lowest P/E ratios in several years—well prior to the surge in artificial intelligence interest—I consider investing in Nvidia to be quite astute.

 "The tariffs imposed on India are relatively lower compared to those on other Asian economies, offering a degree of relief. Any constructive developments arising from the ongoing India-US bilateral trade negotiations could serve as a supportive catalyst for the market," Nair added.
 
 
 Since assuming office for his second term, President Trump has reiterated his stance on tariff reciprocity, emphasising that the United States will match tariffs imposed by other countries, including India, to ensure fair trade.
 
 
 On April 2, the US President issued an executive order on reciprocal tariffs, imposing additional ad valorem duties ranging from 10 per cent to 50 per cent on imports from all trading partners. The baseline duty of 10 per cent will be effective from April 05, 2025, and the remaining country-specific additional ad valorem duty will be effective from April 09, 2025. The additional duty on India is 26 per cent.
 
 
 Going ahead, the market focus will gradually shift toward the upcoming corporate earnings season.
