They collaborate closely with VPG—the vehicle performance group—which runs simulations to determine whether a proposed aerodynamic modification will result in an actual improvement on the track. Factors such as car balance, circuit conditions including roughness, and varying driving demands must also be considered. Remember, aero figures alone do not tell the whole story.

 These factors have been particularly pertinent for the 2022 class of ground-effect vehicles, as numerous teams have struggled to convert simulation data into tangible performance gains on track. This has affected Racing Bulls, which experienced a setback during their 2024 Barcelona update, along with larger outfits including
 Ferrari
 And Aston Martin has also faced difficulties.


 Based on the scale of the update package, smaller modifications may receive approval from performance managers, whereas larger overhauls must be endorsed at the level of the technical director. This endorsement process is referred to as the ‘aero release,’ which serves as formal authorization within the team, allowing subsequent departments like the design office to proceed with their tasks. The choice hinges not just on the expected improvement in aerodynamic efficiency but also on timing considerations since different tracks demand particular enhancements. For instance, many teams developed specialized high-downforce rear wings specifically for the Monaco Grand Prix, contrasting with the approach taken for races such as in Baku, where lower downforce components were prioritized. Striking this balance ensures that each track receives appropriate updates when needed.


 
 Step 2: Design
 


 The aerodynamic designs originate from Racing Bulls’ UK aerodynamics division and are forwarded to their design facility located in Faenza. Here, the designers must transform these conceptual forms into tangible components. This process involves not only perfecting the form but also ensuring they possess adequate structural strength through the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools and specialized engineering software.
 A prime illustration occurred during the race in Barcelona when teams were compelled to reinforce their front wings due to new, more stringent load testing imposed by the FIA to curb excessive flexibility of the wings. As anticipated, all ten participating teams needed to modify their front wings, regardless of whether or not they typically utilized flexible designs for competitive advantage.


 Piraccini elaborates, “The design specifications include an aerodynamic shape requirement along with various criteria related to durability and adherence to FIA standards.” He continues, “Designing bodywork is relatively simple since it only needs to conform to permissible shapes. However, for components like the front wing, rear wing, and underbody—which serve structural roles—we must ensure they meet not only dimensional but also structural compliance according to FIA testing protocols."


 The technical guidelines include a process where loads are applied at several points. For every stage of this loading, the deflection of the flap or wing must remain below specific thresholds. This is integral to the design specifications, which have been updated for Barcelona.

 Additional requirements involve allocating sufficient room for intricate cooling systems, wire harnesses, and openings for more than 200 sensors. Designers are not only conceptualizing the carbon fiber components but also developing all the tools needed to manufacture them. Since a redesigned floor necessitates a new molding process, these procedures are being aligned as closely as feasible.


 All our designers collaborate in real-time using the same data, making virtual car mock-ups essential for the design office," Piraccini explains further. "Should one team focus on the chassis while another concentrates on the bodywork without simultaneously reviewing shared details, discrepancies may arise between these components, ultimately reducing the effectiveness of our design workflow.


 
 Step 3: Production
 


 It should be emphasized that this process is not linear. The production team doesn’t sit idle awaiting the complete design specifications. To enhance “time to race,” a crucial metric in vehicle development indicating the duration from an aerodynamic idea’s conception to its appearance on the track-ready car, the production department gets involved even before the full design specs are finalized.


 “A front wing consists of various components, and we aren’t holding off until every single piece arrives before initiating the production phase,” states Piraccini. “As soon as the primary section of the front wing is ready, the production team kicks off the manufacturing process. Acting like a symphony director, the product manager oversees the flow of data and schedules to make sure everything comes together swiftly for the racing event.”


 Creating carbon fiber composites involves a precise procedure. The work moves to a "clean room," where carbon fiber sheets are layered with resin to form a wet ply. Clean rooms maintain strict control over their environments to prevent contaminants from affecting the ply, as such impurities could degrade the final component’s quality. Particles trapped among the carbon fiber layers might lead to fissures when these components experience stress during use.


 Once the component has undergone lamination using wet plywood, it moves on to undergo a curing process inside an autoclave. This equipment functions like a large oven capable of being adjusted to specific temperatures—typically ranging from 100 to 250 degrees—and applying pressures between three to seven bars. It’s within this setting that the carbon fiber composite attains its optimal strength-to-weight ratio during the curing stage. Following removal from the autoclave, the piece undergoes initial inspection before proceeding to a trimming section designed for cleaning and polishing purposes, thereby eliminating residual contaminants effectively.

 The exact quantity of spare components manufactured for every upgrade varies depending on the situation, since nobody wishes to create excess materials beyond what’s needed, considering both financial expenses and available resources. As Piraccini points out, "There isn’t a set figure." Monaco demands highly aerodynamic rear wings due to its challenging nature regarding potential damages; thus, according to our evaluations, we may opt to fabricate four or five such wings. However, at times, prioritizing performance over safety leads us to decide on producing only one or two wings when feasible.


 For Barcelona’s front wings, though, this isn’t about adding a desirable aerodynamic kit; rather, it’s an obligatory upgrade mandated by the FIA. Given that safety is paramount here, preparations began early to make certain we’ll have sufficient spares ready for Spain that meet the FIA’s updated requirements.


 
 Step 4: Quality
 


 The fourth significant stage involves the quality department, responsible for validating the newly manufactured components. Besides conducting dimensional inspections to confirm adherence to design specifications, they employ two methods to test a part’s durability: destructive verification procedures (DVP), which subject parts to extreme conditions until failure occurs; and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques applied to every single piece prior to installation on the vehicle. In this phase, the team meticulously verifies whether their updated Barcelona front wing meets the enhanced rigidity requirements set forth by the FIA through rigorous load tests.


 However, according to Piraccini, this doesn’t follow a straightforward sequence since the quality team assists with the production process even beforehand. He elaborated: “These skills are needed throughout the manufacturing stages, and our aim is to reduce the lead-up time for racing.” He added, “Identifying problems early on is vital; otherwise, we’d be forced to restart everything. Additionally, we perform checks periodically while maintaining parts. For instance, a front wing undergoes inspection upon installation and then once more post-race to confirm that track use hasn’t altered its rigidity.”


 
 Step 5: Assembly

 The concluding stage involves assembling components like the complete suspension system and the whole nose cone along with the front wing. While Piraccini guides us around, we observe the team’s latest underbody design for the Imola track getting wired up. Naturally, photography isn’t permitted here. These assembled parts are subsequently transferred to another section of the facility. In parallel, the painting division is busy adding the team colors and sponsorship stickers onto every component.


 Typically, cars are transported in pieces and then fully assembled at the racetrack. However, during our investigation, the team was completely assembling the vehicles themselves.

 In the racing paddocks, there indeed exists a concept of home advantage within Formula 1. Given that Faenza lies merely 20 minutes away from Imola, this allows the Red Bull team to push back certain deadline pressures slightly before needing to finalize their car releases.


 
 What modifications have occurred in the process?
 


 It's evident that significant improvements have been made in reducing both the time and cost associated with developing new components, largely due to F1's aerodynamic regulations. The emphasis now lies heavily on efficiency and efficient communication as key factors for success.

 According to the FIA's technical document, Red Bull’s Miami package consists of modified floor fences and floor edges – in other words, the tunnel inlets and the contoured flanges along the outside of the floor. Both elements are logically tied to the overall floor design.


 
 Why Red Bull believes this floor update poses "no risk"
 


 Introducing a floor update during a sprint weekend with only one free practice session seems risky, but Red Bull sees it differently.


 "We're aiming to tackle two issues," lead engineer Paul Monaghan stated to media outlets such as Diwida, positioned behind the Red Bull pit area.


 That’s the reason we've included it over this weekend. The updates are quite stable and come with minimal risks. This being a sprint weekend presents an excellent chance for us to roll it out.


 In this update, the team is focusing on enhancing pure downforce and improving the car’s cornering stability. This comes with some trade-offs because one common issue during the ground-effect era has been vehicles experiencing significant fluctuations between understeer and oversteer when they have high peak downforces, making it difficult for them to maintain consistent performance throughout turns.

 The phrase "minimal risk" might seem out of place during a race weekend, but Monaghan stated clearly: “My comment pertains solely to the steadiness of air flow. Additionally, as outlined in the FIA document, this steadiness remains unaffected.”


 We're not concerned about it causing aerodynamic instability or anything similar. It should likely increase our downforce, and we aim to take advantage of this.


 The RB21 has reportedly struggled with balance issues consistently; however, Monaghan did not suggest that this was the primary area of focus for the team in terms of development.


 [Equilibrium] is one of the aspects," he stated. "Reflecting on the criticisms following Bahrain, we have managed to tackle some of them.


 Have all our problems been resolved? Likely not. But are we still working on them? Absolutely. These concerns can’t be fixed with simple solutions; instead, they require gradual enhancements made incrementally over time.


 We understand what caused the issues; however, discovering solutions is always complex. Perhaps these challenges won't vanish entirely, but could we mitigate their effect—even on lap times? Absolutely.

 Red Bull stated that Max Verstappen alone will have access to the upgraded floor this weekend. Yuki Tsunoda continues to use an earlier version and is anticipated to get the newer iteration when they reach Imola.

 Most founders follow their passion to start their businesses. The late Enzo Ferrari launched Ferrari so he could follow his true passion.
 


 Go to any
 Formula 1
 race – go to the F1 race at Las Vegas this weekend – and you’ll see plenty of fans wearing
 Ferrari
 red. For that matter, go to a Formula 1 race in Italy, and you’ll see endless seas of Ferrari red.


 Partly that’s because Ferrari is the most successful team in Formula 1 history, with more driver championships, constructor championships, and race wins than any other team. Partly that’s because of history. Ferrari is easily Formula 1’s longest-standing team. But mostly it’s because of a decision the late
 Enzo Ferrari
 – the perfect example of an entrepreneur who finds success by following his passion, and in the process connects with customers who vibe with it – made in 1947.


 We’ll get back to that in a moment.


 I don’t have millions in disposable cash lying around, but even so, I can engage with most iconic brands. Apple, Coke, Nike? I buy their products. Luis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermes? I could purchase pretty much anything they make. Especially if I decide eating isn’t a priority.


 Ferrari? No, not even if I had the means. Sure, if I had the cash I could walk in and plunk down $250,000 to $300,000 for an entry-level Ferrari.

 Where Passion Meets Purpose
</h2>

 However, if you were interested in getting one of those new $900,000 SF90 XX Stradales, chances are you wouldn't be able to get one unless you had an established history with the brand—meaning you likely owned several Ferraris before. As such, you probably wouldn’t have been placed on the allocation list.


 Hermes? Tiffany? Mercedes? Go ahead, indulge yourself. Purchase as many scarves, rings, and cars as your heart desires.


 But not Ferraris.


 Clearly, exclusivity enhances the brand.
 Ferrari's earnings reached 1.6 billion euros.
 in the past quarter with year-over-year sales up more than 11 percent at 6.46 billion euros. Ferrari stock is up approximately 150 percent since 2019. By comparison, F1 automaker Mercedes’s stock is flat, Alpine Renault is down, and Aston Martin is significantly down over the same period. With just shy of 5,000 Ferrari employees, that’s 1.296 million euros in revenue per employee. All that from selling just 13,600 cars a year.


 Success story? Absolutely. But when Enzo decided to start selling cars, his primary goal wasn’t to build a car company.

 A Virtuous Circle
</h2>

 He started selling cars so he could fund his race team. Race teams typically lose money, or at best break even. Since money buys speed, any extra money goes into making the car faster. Enzo poured profits from selling cars into building a better race team, and a virtuous cycle was created. Car sales grew as Ferrari became more successful on the track, which meant more money could be put into the race team, which meant even more on-track success.


 Just like that, Enzo had created a relatively unique marketing model. Ferrari doesn’t advertise. You’ll never see a print, broadcast, or digital ad. The race team – and its millions in ancillary merchandise, a not inconsiderable marketing tool – is its sole means of marketing.


 As a result, Ferrari has also created that rarest of breeds: a profitable race team.


 In 2022, the race team earned $50 million on $500 million in revenue, and the brand is valued at nearly $4 billion. Granted, that’s also because Formula 1 instituted a cost cap, limiting the amount teams can spend. Even if Ferrari wanted to spend that $50 million on buying more speed, it can’t. In short, marketing isn’t a cost center. For Ferrari, marketing is a profit center.

 Sr’s hopes of ousting current FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem have taken an early blow after a hefty number of automobile clubs signed a letter throwing their weight behind the incumbent.


 Although many speculated that Ben Sulayem would run unopposed in the upcoming presidential election, Diwida was the first to report that he faces competition from Nasser Al-Attiyah, a two-time World Rally Champion and four-time Dakar Rally winner.

 Ben Sulayem’s reign has not been without controversy, including overseeing a string of key figures leaving the governing body,
 excluding FIA members from meetings
 and
 displeasing motorists by prohibiting profanity
 .


 Currently, the 63-year-old Emirati has garnered significant backing from 36 FIA member clubs predominantly located in the Americas, along with the FIA Vice President for Sports in South America, Fabiana Ecclestone, who is married to Bernie.


 "President Mohammed, representing the member clubs mentioned below, we pen this message to convey our deep appreciation for your dedicated service, unwavering commitment, forward-thinking vision, and most importantly, the fulfillment of promises outlined in your Manifesto which you made to us—the members," the correspondence states.


 We all clearly recognize the dire financial condition you were left to handle. Had it not been for your immediate and courageous steps taken right from the start, the future of the FIA could have been jeopardized. Achieving such a remarkable transformation within just four years is truly exceptional, particularly considering the concurrent introduction of sophisticated management systems.

 Nothing beats the stark contrast between the thrill of intense competition and the quietude of a fresh morning after a chaotic frenzy to erase two months of sheer joy.
 Lewis Hamilton
 arrived in

 visibly joyous
 prior to the start of the first chapter of his
 Ferrari
 story. Three days on,
 F1
 '’s joint-most successful driver will now have no doubts about the magnitude of the journey ahead.


 And it wasn't only about Ferrari’s
 late fumble
 – for both drivers, we should include, with
 Charles Leclerc
 Furthermore, this issue will gnaw at Hamilton during his journey to Shanghai this week ahead of the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. Additionally, he won’t forget the final-lap letdown to Oscar Piastri, leaving him with a 10th-place result and only a single point after the wet race in Albert Park on Sunday.


 Indeed, the omens were troubling as early as the wet weather forecast for Sunday's Grand Prix was announced. Surprisingly, conditions that Hamilton typically thrives in became a source of worry for him, much to the astonishment of everyone in the pit lane.

 “I don’t know which buttons I’m going to switch to tomorrow,” he admitted about driving the SF-25 car in the rain, after qualifying a disappointing eighth on the grid.


 “I don’t know what settings we’re going to have to use with the car.”


 It seemed an astonishing revelation, and it set the tone for Sunday’s chaotic season-opening race in which Hamilton’s patience wore thin, right from lights out to the chequered flag.


 Gradual indications of Hamilton’s angst increasing were played out to the world, as ever, on team radio. After he was paired with new race engineer Riccardo “Ricky” Adami – a 51-year-old Italian stalwart of Ferrari who has previously worked with Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz – an intense 58-lap grand prix placed their new partnership firmly in the spotlight. And, perhaps inevitably after 12 years with the same engineer, Peter “Bono” Bonnington, at Mercedes, there are issues to iron out.


 It is no secret that Hamilton prefers brief, concise instructions in his ear while driving at 200mph around a narrow street circuit. Who can blame him for that? As such, Adami’s regular interventions on Sunday were not welcomed by the 40-year-old. At the start of his 19th season in F1, Hamilton is well attuned to what makes him tick. And this was not it.


 While driving behind the safety car on lap four, when told to “stay in mode charge… charge button on”, Hamilton’s response was polite but firm.


 “Yeah, no problem. Just don’t repeat everything, please.”


 Nine laps later, Hamilton responded, “Leave me to it, please” twice when instructed to use an overtake button on the steering wheel, as he frustratingly failed to pass the Williams of Alex Albon. By lap 25, the Briton’s replies were sharper: “Yes, please leave it, please leave it.”

 A lot of this is par for the course. Despite Hamilton’s championship-winning days at Mercedes, even then he had his fair share of frustrating run-ins with Bono, who was once an engineer alongside him. However, as dark clouds gathered over Melbourne during the last ten laps on Sunday, one thing Hamilton shouldn’t have to face is making strategic decisions without being aware of the weather radar. Unfortunately, Ferrari’s inaccurate predictions proved very costly.


 As the rain poured down, much of the field became bumpy while Hamilton and Leclerc remained on slick tires. Once Max Verstappen switched his tires, Hamilton seized the lead and queried, "Is more rain expected?"


 Adami responded with, "Nope... just this... we'll see." This didn’t exactly instil much faith, yet Hamilton carried on. It turned out to be the incorrect decision.

 By the time Hamilton finally switched his tires, a safety car was deployed because of two collisions, causing him to drop down to ninth place. The frustration he felt over losing this chance – potentially for a podium finish, perhaps even a win – was evident under the bright sky that appeared overhead.

Then, even more precipitation arrived. Thus, I believe my main issue was missing that crucial piece of final information.


 When defending Ferrari’s strategy team, one must consider they make rapid choices amidst numerous variables. However, both Red Bull, Mercedes, and McLaren executed their pit stops precisely, whereas Ferrari did not.


 Ferrari’s floundering in the tactical department has long been used as a stick to beat the prancing horse. A series of errors in 2022 ultimately cost Mattia Binotto his job as team principal and current boss Fred Vasseur has worked hard to improve the clarity and accuracy of decisions from the pit wall to the cockpit.


 But Melbourne showed they are far from perfect. Perhaps of more concern to Hamilton will be Ferrari’s lack of pace: forget runaway leaders McLaren, they were even short of Verstappen’s Red Bull and former team Mercedes this weekend. For all the

 During the session at Suzuka, the 22-year-old driver lost control around 300 km/h and crashed into a tire barrier, leading to an extended period of red flags.


 "All of us at the team are relieved to see Jack exit free practice two without issues and pleased to confirm that he is well following his routine safety assessments," stated Alpine team principal Oli Oakes.

 "It was a misjudgement of not closing the DRS into turn one. It is something to learn from."


 Doohan also allayed fears.


 "First of all, I am OK after the incident," the F1 rookie said.


 "It was a heavy one, something that caught me by surprise, and I will learn from it.


 "I know the team has a lot of work ahead to repair the car going into tomorrow, so thanks in advance to them for their efforts."


 F1 great Jacques Villeneuve, the winner of the 1997 title, said Doohan was a "passenger" from the moment he lost control.


 "At that speed, the amount of downforce they have, there is no reason for a car to lose it, unless there's something going wrong," he said.


 "He lost a couple of tons of downforce suddenly, just at the wrong moment. That was a quick snap. It wasn't a slide; the car just lost it. It looked like he lost all the downforce at the rear."


 The crash was a heavy blow for Doohan, who is at risk of losing his race seat to Argentine Franco Colapinto as early as next week.


 It also cost him valuable track time. Doohan had earlier sat out of the first practice session, handing his car over to reserve driver Ryō Hirakawa.


 Doohan has never raced at Suzuka in an F1 car. His last visit to the track was in Asian Formula 3.


 The crash caused a lengthy red flag as the barriers were repaired.


 Cars had only just returned to the track when the red flags flew again when Fernando Alonso found himself stuck in the gravel trap at the exit of the fast right-hand Degner corner.


 They flew twice more in the session to allow marshalls to extinguish grass fires. Weather conditions at the circuit have been hot, dry and windy for much of the week, and the sparks coming off the bottom of the cars ignited the dry grass trackside.


 A similar stoppage occurred during practice ahead of last year's Chinese Grand Prix. Organisers sprayed a compound on the grass to keep it moist.


 Rain is forecast for later in the weekend at Suzuka.


 While the session was disastrous for one Australian, it was successful for the other. Oscar Piastri finished fastest ahead of McLaren teammate Lando Norris.


 Qualifying is set for Saturday afternoon (AEDT) and the race will start at 3pm on Sunday.

 This incident took place in Menton, a town close to where he lived in Monaco, just as he began an arduous 108-kilometer cycling trip through the mountainous regions of southern France.


 Froome shared an image of the vehicle and license plate on Instagram with this caption: "This woman repeatedly attempted to hit me as I was trying to overtake her."

 In another posting, Froome pointed out a sticker on the motorist's car that indicated a link to the Institut Arnault Tzanck, a medical facility located in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, which is near Nice.

 I strongly suspect we aren’t the first people around here who’ve experienced problems with her. It’s about time she faced the repercussions of her actions.


 In May 2017, just prior to securing his fourth and ultimate Tour de France title, Froome experienced yet another unsettling event on the roads. During one of his routine training sessions, he encountered a motorist who intentionally crashed into him due to impatience. The driver allegedly pursued Froome from the street onto the sidewalk after overtaking him.


 Although he came out without physical injuries, his bike—an irreparably damaged Pinarello Dogma—told a different story.


 'Today was quite a frightening ordeal,' Froome commented back then. 'The French law enforcement has done an excellent job; I provided them with all necessary information. Really thankful that nobody got injured.'

 The remarks from JCM Racing team owner Joe Maynard reflect his unwavering faith in Ida Zetterström. Hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, this drag racing prodigy boasts an impressive list of accomplishments which includes several championships under her belt. Notably, she holds the title of three-time series champion within Europe’s top-tier competition—the FIA Top Fuel. Additionally, she has claimed victory twice as a champion in the Super Street Bike division. However, Ida currently harbors different aspirations for herself.


 Straight after securing the 2023 Top Fuel championship, Ida Zetterström moved from the Åland Islands in Finland to Brownsburg, Indianapolis at the start of 2024. With aspirations to reach unparalleled levels within the NHRA circuit, she faces fresh obstacles as she takes on this new role.

 Despite being an accomplished multiple-time motorsports champion who tackles track challenges effortlessly, Ida Zetterström faces hurdles when it comes to finances. Having geared up for her first appearance in the NHRA back in 2024, she secured partnerships such as those with Edelbrock and VP Racing Fuels. Her relationship with Edelbrock Performance had been ongoing since 2021, making this collaboration more established compared to her association with VP Racing Fuels which was relatively fresh at that time. In 2024, Ida participated in six races of the NHRA Mission Foods Series and aimed to compete fully under JCM Racing’s banner throughout 2025. Nonetheless, come late last year, assembling sufficient sponsorship backing proved challenging for her ambitious plans for a complete season.


 At present, Ida Zetterström has been slated for a partial season comprising 10 races. This challenging situation understandably puts stress on the Swedish driver, who must secure additional funding to extend her racing calendar beyond those initial engagements. As Ida mentioned, this is quite problematic.

 That is the challenging aspect at present because clearly,
 
 being an individual who truly desires to compete throughout the entire season
 
 , securing the funding for it, and concentrating on completing that schedule. Particularly, ensuring enough funds to compete in full seasons for many years ahead—not only this year is concerning me. This occupies much of my thoughts, and consumes a significant part of my daily activities."


 Behind her thoughts, Ida Zetterström continues to grapple with insufficient funds. She admitted that this impacts how she tackles racing competitions.
 If you were aware that an entire season lay before you, your mental state might differ since you'd concentrate on aiming for the championship.

 She remains dedicated to her role despite the difficulties presented by transitioning from open-canopy vehicles in Europe to closed-canopy cars used in NHRA competitions. Her primary focus now is delivering her utmost performance for every sponsor supporting her journey.
 But I'm striving to strike a balance between putting in intense effort on that front and concentrating on the races I'll attend, ensuring that I can truly excel as the top driver, an outstanding team member, and the finest ambassador for all of my sponsors. Therefore, I don't want racing to consume every ounce of mental energy when I step onto the track.

 Ida Zetterström’s worries might also encompass the NHRA racing circuit. She is endeavoring to adjust to the distinct Top Fuel vehicles and enhance her outstanding performance in the 2024 season.

 An unwavering desire for enhancement

 Ida Zetterström strongly pursues sponsorships mainly due to her deep-seated enthusiasm. Her ardor for racing shines through her track record. By breaking gender barriers, Ida made history as the inaugural female champion of the Super Street Bike competition in 2019. Consequently, she was eager to get back into driving.
 NHRA
 In 2024, Ida admitted feeling somewhat restless due to having to wait half a year before assembling her racing crew and vehicle. Eventually, she took part in her inaugural competition in August at the Brainerd International Raceway located in Minnesota. There, she delivered an impressive performance by defeating four-time champion Steve Torrance during their initial match-up. Throughout the last eight events of the season, Ida showcased strong form with her highest qualification position being eighth place at the Texas Fall Nationals. Additionally, for her remarkable rookie efforts, she received recognition from NHRA’s National Dragster magazine, earning the title of 'Best New Talent' at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) event.


 Collaborating with her crew chief, Jon Schaffer, Ida Zetterström managed to secure a spot in the semifinals in 2024. However, Ida believes she still has much room for improvement as she strives to enhance her performance metrics.
 I sense that we missed an opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities fully. Other teams had a significant advantage with a 12-race lead over us since they began much earlier in the year. By the time we launched operations in August, these competitors had spent months ironing out their issues. Additionally, some of them have been collaborating for years, unlike our new team which essentially started afresh. Just as things seemed to be clicking for us, the season concluded abruptly. Therefore, we're eager to return and showcase our true potential.


 Clearly, many challenges lie ahead for the Swedish racing sensation. As Ida Zetterström embarks on her NHRA adventure, we send our best wishes!

 Di samping itu, ia pun mempunyai ambisinya tersendiri untuk mencapai kemenangan dan gelar juara, sehingga pertanyaan tersebut tampak seperti penilaian rendah terhadap dirinya di hadapan tim dan pihak sponsor.


 "Saya ingin meraih kemenangan. Namun, saya jauh lebihrealistis daripada banyak orang lainnya, sebab saya paham betul siapa Marc, sadar akan kemampuannya, dan tak ada masalah bagi saya untuk mengakui hal tersebut," terangnya.


 Meskipun hingga saat ini dia masih tertinggal di belakang kakaknya, karena memang Marc masih lebih cepat daripadanya.


 "Biasanya kamu mungkin tak akan menyebutkan langsung kelebihan lawan mainmu, tapi karena dia adalah saudara laki-lakiku dan aku merasa nyaman membahas ini, maka aku bisa melakukannya. Sama seperti itu pula ketika harus mengakuinya bila di beberapa hal dia jadi yang terbaik," tambahnya.


 "Aku akan terus belajar, memberikan 100% seperti biasa. Tetapi berhentilah berpikir bahwa aku terlalu menghormatinya. Kita semua melihatnya hari ini. Kami bertarung. Dia memang lebih cepat, dan aku sudah memberikan segalanya," tegas sang rider.

 The main actor's film will debut globally in movie theaters on June 25, 2025.

 At the 2023 British Grand Prix, Hollywood actor Pitt commented, "Here’s something incredible: There are cameras positioned everywhere on the vehicle. You've never witnessed such speeds or experienced G-forces like these before—it truly is astonishing."


 He mentioned that circulating the track was "humbling," adding, "I’m not sure my effort qualifies as a hotlap; more like what one might describe as a warm-up lap."

 There are a few bends where I can glimpse the stands, but my main focus was on the tracks. I managed to fully enjoy the sensation of driving during the straightaways. We should aim for this level of authenticity.

 Ferrari’s Chinese Grand Prix weekend went from triumph to despair as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified from the main race after their cars failed post-race technical checks.


 Twenty-four hours after Hamilton took a morale-boosting victory in Saturday’s sprint race to get his career in red up and running – the seven-time world champion
 hitting back at “yapping critics”
 for having doubted him – the Scuderia made not one but two basic errors which proved extremely costly.

<h2 class="u-heading-size-medium u-heading-style-normal">
 Why was Hamilton disqualified?
</h2>

 First, the underfloor plank of Hamilton’s car – part of an assembly which includes titanium skid blocks to maintain a minimum ride height and prevent cars from being too low to the ground – was found to have excessive wear when it was measured after the race, 0.5mm below the limit. Then Leclerc’s car was found to be underweight, as was the machine belonging to Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. All three drivers were disqualified.


 Leclerc and Hamilton lost their
 fifth- and sixth-place finishes
 as a result, worth 10 points and eight points respectively. Gasly had finished out of the points in 11th.


 It had already been a difficult day for Ferrari even before the disqualifications. Leclerc tore off his front wing endplate in an opening-lap tussle with Hamilton, who started just in front of him in fifth.


 Despite having a section of his car missing throughout the whole race, the driver from Monaco still demonstrated superior speed compared to his rival. Midway through the competition, Hamilton acknowledged his loss and informed his crew that he would let Leclerc overtake him instead of impeding his progress further.


 For Hamilton, being disqualified would likely evoke recollections of Austin 2023 when his Mercedes was also excluded from the race for similar reasons.

 Vasseur praises Hamilton ‘maturity’

 Ferrari stated in an official announcement that they had "no desire to obtain any benefit."


 Today, Charles adopted a one-stop approach which led to significant tyre degradation, making the car less competitive," the Italian team stated. "As for Lewis, our estimation of tread wear was slightly off target.


 “There was no intention to gain any advantage. We will learn from what happened today and make sure we don’t make the same mistakes again. Clearly it’s not the way we wanted to end our Chinese GP weekend, neither for ourselves, nor for our fans whose support for us is unwavering.”


 Hamilton, who endured a
 disastrous Ferrari debut in Melbourne
 the previous weekend, looked to have bounced back in Shanghai. But he cut a despondent figure afterwards.


 “We didn’t really have a battle,” Hamilton said of his decision to let Leclerc past, a call which was praised by Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur as “mature”. “He just had more pace than me. I was struggling with the car so I told the team to let him by. It was my idea.”

 Asked what had changed between the sprint race and the main grand prix, Hamilton added: “I mean, we both made setup changes and one particular [change] I think was the wrong one for us. We both had it. But for me the balance was completely different. The [performance] window is quite narrow. But there is performance there, I think. I definitely take more positives [than negatives] from the weekend.”

 Red Bull weigh up ditching Lawson
</h2>

 Meanwhile, Red Bull are understood to be considering switching
 rookie Liam Lawson
 with Racing Bulls driver Yuki Tsunoda as early as the next race weekend in Suzuka.


 Lawson endured another difficult weekend as Max Verstappen’s new team-mate in the main Red Bull team. After crashing out in Melbourne, Lawson qualified 20th and last in both the sprint race and the feature race in China. The 23-year-old managed to recover to 15th but looks devoid of confidence.

 The team are weighing up a number of factors including whether they think Lawson can improve sufficiently, what it might do to his career to pull him out of the second Red Bull so quickly, and whether Tsunoda might suffer the same fate as the Kiwi if he switched, thereby destroying his confidence as well.


 Asked whether he would agree to swap places with Lawson in Suzuka, Tsunoda replied: “Japan? Yeah, 100 per cent. The Red Bull car is faster.”

 Disqualification harsh, but correct decision
</h2>

 Lewis Hamilton’s disqualification from the Chinese Grand Prix because of excessive plank wear would have come as a shock to both driver and his Ferrari team. It is not the first time this has happened to the seven-time champion, but generally these instances are rare.


 At times, some of the FIA technical regulations can seem obscure to the viewing public. They are in place for a good reason, though. The introduction of ‘planks’ underneath the cars – so called because they resemble a piece of timber though are made from high-density resin-bonded material – was to stop teams running their cars so close to the ground that they would bottom out. This was thought to be a contributing factor to Ayrton Senna’s fatal accident at Imola in 1994.


 The planks and the regulation of their thickness before and after the race in effect mean a team has to run a car high enough to stop the car bottoming out. The plank itself is 300mm wide and 10mm thick. During a race it can be worn down to 9mm thickness, being measured in specific areas by the FIA. Hamilton’s plank was down to 8.5mm thickness, causing his disqualification.

 To wear more than 1mm away from the plank means the car must have been hitting the ground hard for a prolonged period of time. You could say that the 0.5mm or so difference is not much but that equates to perhaps raising the ride height at the rear by 2mm or 3mm to stop this happening and keep the car legal. That would affect performance, as the lower the car is to the ground the better.


 As I have written about before, these ground-effect F1 cars respond to ride height very critically. Ferrari blamed their drop-off in performance in Australia on the fact that they had to raise their ride heights from Friday to Saturday.

 So what went wrong?
</h2>

 How did excessive wear happen in China, then? A sprint weekend, with limited practice sessions, means teams do not undertake much running on high fuel loads. Getting a reading on the plank wear when you do run high fuel is critical. They would have taken a measurement after the sprint race but that is only run on one-third fuel, being one-third of the grand prix distance. Ferrari obviously screwed up here and owned up to their error after the disqualification.


 A curious aspect of Ferrari’s weekend was that Hamilton took pole position and won the sprint race by seven seconds, yet could only qualify fifth and finish sixth on the road in the main race. I would not be surprised if some of their performance was lost through raising the ride height of Hamilton’s car after the sprint.


 Perhaps Ferrari checked the plank wear after the sprint and realised it was marginally legal and chose to change the set-up and raise the ride height. That would have lost him performance – he was actually faster in sprint qualifying than main qualifying, which is unusual. It does not take much to lose a tenth of a second or two with the ride-height effect. If this was the case, the change they made was not big enough and they and Hamilton paid the price.

 What about Leclerc?
</h2>

 Charles Leclerc in the other Ferrari was also disqualified but for his car being 1kg under the 800kg minimum weight post-race. In reality his car was ‘underweight’ for the whole race because he lost a front wing endplate on the first lap after colliding with Hamilton. Yet this was not the reason for his disqualification as the FIA regulations allow the team to fit the car with a replacement equivalent front wing when it is weighed. However, he was still found to be under the limit.


 One kilogram from 800kg is not an enormous amount (just 0.125 per cent the wrong way) and would not equate to a great deal of lap time. The most likely cause was the race turning out to be an unexpected one-stop strategy. That meant the teams ran their final stint on the hard tyres for far longer than they believed they would. The 1kg weight difference would have likely been simply from the tyres losing more rubber over the 41 laps Leclerc did on them.


 Another strange aspect of Ferrari’s weekend was that Leclerc was faster than Hamilton despite his broken wing. The team said he would have lost downforce and that is true. Yet it would likely have been a performance gain overall because the car is a little lighter, but more significantly aerodynamically improved.


 As we saw on TV, Leclerc’s front wing ran much closer to the ground at high speed, which is what you want on these ground-effect cars. The missing endplate would have also likely pushed the airflow outwards when it hit the front tyre, rather than inwards and back under the car. That is ideal because if you get ‘inwash’ rather than ‘outwash’ it disrupts the airflow over the other surfaces. That likely explains at least some of Leclerc’s pace advantage over Hamilton.


 Ferrari need to look at this performance advantage (or perhaps disadvantage) in detail, as there might be something to learn from it. They also need to reduce the errors they seem to be making on simple set-up procedures, otherwise they could be throwing away another season.

 Ferrari’s blunder-filled start to new season
</h2>

 Frédéric Vasseur has managed to turn Ferrari into a serious outfit that contends for championships again. Yet the opening two races of the 2025 season has been a return to the chaotic “bad old days” at Ferrari with operational and strategic errors aplenty.

 Australian GP strategy blunder
</h2>

 After qualifying a disappointing seventh and eighth, Ferrari have an opportunity to make ground as the rain comes in Melbourne. They choose to leave not one but both of their drivers out on slick tyres in heavy rain. They pay the price, as Hamilton falls back and Leclerc spins.

 Communication breakdown
</h2>

 Whilst Hamilton’s radio messages with his race engineer Riccardo Adami were respectful in Australia,
 there did seem to be a gap in communication
 . Hamilton asked for less information, he got more information. He then asked for more and got less. Work is needed.

 Regression in China after sprint win
</h2>

 Credit to Ferrari and Hamilton for pole and victory in the sprint in Shanghai. However, when it came to qualifying and the main race, there was little sign of that pace. Set-up changes made between those sessions put him a long way from the pace of the McLarens.

<h2 class="u-heading-size-medium u-heading-style-normal">
 An unusual strategy call
</h2>

 Hamilton was the only one of the frontrunners to stop twice in China. Whilst he would likely have been overtaken by Max Verstappen for fifth anyway, the fact that he was clearly the slowest of the top six (even with his team-mate’s broken front wing) was a worrying sign.

 Ultimate disqualification
</h2>

 Nevertheless, accumulating eight points during the sprint and another eight in the main race wasn’t exactly disastrous; it did represent an upgrade compared to the previous weekend. However, Lewis Hamilton ultimately returned home without scoring any points following his exclusion from the Grand Prix due to excessive wear of the car’s plank. As usual, one could blame Ferrari for this issue.
