 When GM started delivering the

 2025 Sierra EV
 </a>
 Towards the end of last year, it was available solely with the Denali trim featuring just two battery choices: the 390-mile Extended Range and the 460-mile Max Range. The vehicle started at over $100,000, which could be considered quite steep. Recently though, GM unveiled two more budget-friendly versions along with additional battery configurations, making the Denali model less expensive than before. This change might make the car attractive to a broader range of buyers.
 
 
 The two newly introduced trim levels are the basic Elevation and the adventure-oriented AT4. The Elevation model will come equipped with both the Extended Range battery as well as a new Standard Range option. Meanwhile, the AT4 variant will offer choices between Extended Range and Max Range configurations. As for the Denali, customers can choose from all three variants: Standard, Extended Range, and Max. Detailed range estimations for each trim level will be disclosed nearer to their release date. It’s worth noting that GM does not disclose specific battery capacities; however, we do understand that the Max pack closely resembles those found in comparable models.

 The Elevation model equipped with the Standard battery has a price of $64,495 including destination charges, which makes it approximately $15,000 less expensive compared to the base model.

 The Extended Range package increases the price to $72,695.
 
 
 The AT4 model equipped with the Extended Range package has a starting price of $81,395, which increases to $91,695 when fitted with the Max package. Due to the introduction of the new compact Standard Range battery, the top-tier Denali version now begins at $71,795. Additionally, even its Extended Range variant is approximately $10,000 less expensive, commencing at around $80,000.

 "By incorporating these extra features and customizable options, the Sierra EV is perfectly situated within the core segment of the luxury pickup truck market," stated Jaclyn McQuaid, Global Vice President of Buick GMC, in an official release.
 
 
 The AT4 gains an additional two inches of ground clearance, bringing its standard ride height up to 11 inches. Additionally, it features rear-axle steering, known as Crab Walk, along with a peak towing capability of 12,300 pounds—approximately 2,000 pounds greater than that of the Denali.
 
 
 The Elevation has less emphasis on off-roading and more focus on roads, yet it appears well-equipped. Although it won’t include rear-axle steering or Crab Walk (a feature few use), it will come with impressive amenities such as a sizable 16.8-inch touch screen and an electric front trunk.
 
 
 The market for electric trucks hasn't truly gained momentum because the

 choices are few and costly

 The penalties associated with range limitations during towing and hauling operations often discourage conventional truck purchasers from transitioning to electric vehicles.  ELLABELL, Ga. (AP) — Hyundai celebrated the opening of its new $7.6 billion electric vehicle factory in Georgia on Wednesday by announcing plans to expand its production capacity by two-thirds to a total of 500,000 vehicles per year.


 The news came as President Donald Trump announced
 25% tariffs on auto imports
 at the White House. Hyundai will be spared from those tariffs on its U.S.-made vehicles. Trump praised the South Korean automaker on Monday, saying its American investments are “a clear demonstration that tariffs very strongly work.”

 Hyundai began producing EVs just shy of six months ago at its sprawling manufacturing plant in southeast Georgia. More than 1,200 people are working there.


 With employees in blue shirts filling bleachers behind him Wednesday, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Euisun Chung said the company plans to increase the plant's capacity from 300,000 vehicles per year to 500,000. He said it shows Hyundai has come to Georgia “to stay, to invest and to grow.”

 “Standing here today, I can say I have never been more confident about building the future of mobility with America, in America," Chung said.


 Hyundai Motor Company CEO Jose Munoz said the Georgia expansion was “like building a new plant.”


 Munoz stated to reporters, “This plant could not have arrived at a more opportune moment than right now,” adding that “all the vehicles produced here will undoubtedly be exempt from any tariffs.”


 On Wednesday, Hyundai workers joined forces with numerous robots on the assembly line. These machines stamped steel sheets into components like fenders and door panels, welded and painted car bodies, and even parked completed vehicles for their final inspection.


 The sprawling plant covering 3,000 acres produces a completed vehicle approximately every sixty seconds. At present, its workforce of 1,200 employees is manufacturing two different electric sport utility vehicles.

 And the bigger Ioniq 9 scheduled for launch this spring. Additionally, Hyundai intends for the facility to manufacture hybrid models, with Munoz forecasting they will ultimately account for one-third of the production at the site.


 The newly announced Georgia expansion is part of $21 billion in U.S. investments over the next three years that Hyundai announced at the White House with Trump on Monday. They also include a $5.8 billion steel mill in Louisiana to produce auto parts for Hyundai's assembly plants in Georgia and Alabama.

 Prior to the announcement of the expansion, Hyundai stated its intention to have a workforce of 8,500 employees at the Bryan County location, situated approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Savannah. The two companies collaborating on battery production at this facility are projected to contribute an additional 3,500 jobs.


 Hyundai has not specified the number of extra employees required to boost production by 200,000 vehicles annually.


 In the first six months of 2024, the Ioniq 5 ranked as the second most popular electric vehicle in America, excluding those produced by top manufacturer Tesla.


 Hyundai managed to begin producing electric vehicles in Georgia in under two years following the commencement of construction in autumn 2022. This marked the biggest economic development initiative the state had ever experienced, accompanied by an impressive investment.
 $2.1 billion worth of tax incentives
 And various encouragements offered by state and local governments.


 EVs made up 8.1% of new car sales in the U.S. the previous year, an increase from 7.9% in 2023, as reported by Motorintelligence.com.

 Getting back to the Amaris; it’s a rather beautiful thing, with wide thighs and “swan doors” that will supposedly swing upwards to make getting in and out as easy as possible. The design cues are heavily influenced by its four-door sibling, the
 Revero
 , itself an evolution of the original Fisker Karma.
 
 
 It rides on 22-inch forged aluminum wheels with a clean-cut design that Karma calls “Constellation,” while the body is a combination of aluminum and carbon fiber. There’s also a clamshell hood up front and a pass-through spoiler at the rear that reduces drag and increases downforce.

 Under the skin, the Amaris is based on an evolution of the all-aluminum spaceframe that traces its roots to the Revero. This allows the small California company to speed up development and bring the swoopy coupe to the market quicker than if it had to do the chassis from scratch.
 
 
 What makes Karma’s new coupe stand out from the crowd, however, is its powertrain. Specs are still under wraps, but we know the Amaris will be an
 extended-range electric vehicle
 (EREV) that employs a four-cylinder gasoline engine sourced from BMW and an electric generator. While batteries and electric motors for wheel propulsion are included, specific information about them hasn't been released yet. This updated gasoline engine represents an improvement over the current three-cylinder 1.5-liter engine utilized by Karma.
 
 
 It’s the identical setup as in the
 RAM 1500 Ramcharger
 and the upcoming
 Scout SUV and pickup
 . The gas engine doesn’t power the wheels, it just turns a generator that sends juice to the battery pack. Then, the electric motors get power from the battery to propel the car.
 
 
 Karma Automotive stated that the Amaris will accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds with a maximum speed of 165 mph. This performance is notably 0.7 seconds quicker than predicted for the upcoming Gysera electric sedan and one full second swifter than the Revero plug-in hybrid.
 
 
 Speaking of the two four-door models, Karma confirmed that the Gysera it showed last year will succeed the Revero. There’s some explaining to do here, though–the
 Gyesera
 was supposed to be a Revero-based all-electric sedan, but now Karma said it will switch to an EREV powertrain “in response to changes in the near-term market demand for EVs.” As a reminder, the soon-to-be-discontinued Revero, which traces its roots to the original Fisker Karma, will be replaced with the Gyesera which is a revised version of the Revero.
 
 
 Sales of the Karma Amaris coupe are slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the
 Kaveya
 all-electric “super-coupe” in 2027 and the Ivara electric SUV in 2028. Before these, the performance-oriented
 Invictus
 will go on sale in the second quarter of this year, while the revised Gyesera EREV four-seater will arrive in the final quarter of 2025.

 Xiaomi's move from smartphones to electric cars has been a huge success so far. Its first EV, the SU7, has been an absolute hit in its home turf of China. CEOs of American car manufacturers,
 like Ford's Jim Farley,
 love the SU7 too, and that's kind of ironic considering that you can't even buy one stateside.
 
 
 It turns out that
 the SU7
 has been selling so well that it's even outpaced EV sales by most U.S. automakers for 2024, both comparatively here and in China itself. This was first pointed out by
 tech news site CCN
 , bit we dug into the actual numbers to be sure. Here's what we found.

 In 2024, Xiaomi originally wanted to deliver 76,000 units of its new SU7. Not only did the brand smash that record and raise it to 120,000, but it closed out 2024 with a whopping 136,854 units sold. Keep in mind that this was the first year that the SU7—
 
 Xiaomi's first-ever car
 
 —was delivered en masse in China.
 
 
 Let's take a look at some order books to gauge just how impressive that figure really is. Specifically, Ford and General Motors, which both sell EVs in China.
 
 
 Ford's only EV in China for 2024 is the Mustang Mach-E. The "street fight," as Farley puts it, is one being lost by Ford, as it sold only 999 units of the Mach-E last per figures from

 .
 
 
 GM, which sells cars in China under its Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet brands, sold 69,403 units across all three marques.
 
 
 Now, it's worth noting that separately (and excluded from these counts), GM's joint partnerships with Baojun sold 33,630 units and its SAIC-Wuling 602,952. So GM is doing better there. But under its own banner, not so mich.
 
 
 If Xiaomi's overtake in China's market wasn't enough, these numbers hit home in the U.S. as well.
 
 
 Ford sold just over 97,000 EVs in the U.S. last year. That includes the Mustang Mach-E (which was
 the second best-selling EV in the U.S. behind the Tesla Model Y
 ), F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit models.
 General Motors sold 114,400
 , which includes a broader range of domestic models, including the Chevy Blazer, Equinox and Silverado EVs, as well as the Cadillac Lyric and Optiq, plus the GMC Hummer and Sierra EVs.
 
 
 Perhaps even more impressive is that Xiaomi sold more EVs in China than just about any other automaker that sells in both its home market and the U.S. This includes, Audi, BMW, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo—the only two exceptions? Tesla and Volkswagen.

 A Meteoric Rise For Xiaomi

 Xiaomi's tech-packed SU7 has been an absolute hit, and a starting price of under $30,000 means that consumers are lining up to buy one of their own. And limited-production trims like the SU7 Pro are
 completely sold out for the rest of 2025
 . To put that into perspective, Xiaomi company officials have previously said that the company's order books have 150,000 vehicles in queue for delivery.
 
 
 The automaker also
 just hit
 a record milestone of 200,000 delivered SU7s.
 
 
 In November, Xiaomi hit its first 100,000 milestone in just 229 days since the first delivery. That alone is
 
 extremely
 
 impressive. For comparison, that's quite literally
 half the time it took Tesla to sell the same amount of Model Ys
 . The second 100,000? 119 days—and that's nearly half the time it took Xiaomi to sell its first 100,000.
 
 <h2>
 Hard To Compete
 </h2>
 
 China's EV market, as huge as it may be, is becoming increasingly difficult to compete in.
 Not only are there more than 130 different EV brands
 in China, but there's so much competition that automakers are forced to innovate and create cars that consumers want to buy.
 
 
 The rest of the world? Well, automakers don't exactly work like that. Markets get what they get, and that attitude has played a huge part in China's domestic automakers soaring ahead of even the most prestigious luxury brands out there. Companies have since
 shifted their strategies for China in an attempt to gain more market share
 , but that's an uphill battle for most at this point.
 
 
 The success of companies like Xiaomi underscores a bigger shift in the global automotive landscape. Not only are China's automakers meeting their domestic demand, but international markets are becoming clear targets for China to set itself up as a global automotive powerhouse.
 
 
 Now if Xiaomi found a way to venture into the U.S. market without sky-high tariffs,
 domestic automakers could be in for some trouble
 . The SU7's sales numbers show exactly that and with the YU7 just around the corner, the brand's success could become even more prolific as time goes on.

 Have you ever pondered where automobiles are manufactured? In past decades, car production occurred at facilities situated within the same nation as the automaker. Brands such as those from America
 Ford
 And General Motors manufactured most of their vehicles in the U.S., whereas Japanese brands like
 Honda
 and
 Toyota
 constructed their facilities in Japan, and so forth. However, nowadays, the automotive sector is genuinely international, sourcing thousands of components from various countries and featuring brands with manufacturing sites across the globe.


 Possible import duties might have direct or indirect impacts on the manufacturing locations and processes for automobiles, as well as influence what American buyers will shell out for a brand-new car. Besides offering interesting facts for car owners, understanding which country constructed your particular model could play a role in upcoming purchasing choices. However, despite this localization, the production processes often span several nations, as key parts such as engines are transported internationally, crossing both borders and seas.  The body is made with hand-bent, mirror-polished aluminum that stretches across the length of a car in an unbroken arc. The only parts of the car that aren't made from aluminum are the side sills, front spoiler, and rear diffuser, which are all made from exposed carbon fiber.


 Rather than using traditional doors (boring), the Peralta S has a huge front-hinged canopy that extends upward, giving way to the car's cabin (cool). The out-there design doesn't stop there. Rather than use traditional windows, which would have broken the car's shape, the Peralta S has a huge gullwing-style window on each side.


 According to GFG Style, the Peralta draws inspiration for its styling from the 1972 Maserati Boomerang concept, which is fitting, given that Giorgetto Giugiaro designed that car too. The one-off was commissioned by the Mexican car collector Carlos Peralta and two sons, who gave the car its name.


 Beneath the wild design, the Peralta S draws inspiration from the

 When I tell strangers my job is to review cars for a living, the most common response is “What do you think of Tesla?” For well over a decade, Tesla has been the strange and novel outsider that caught the attention of the non-automotive world. Where “legacy” automakers were staid and dull, Tesla was tech-first and exciting. Its EVs set the bar during the 2010s for all other automakers, both in function and in screen-first form.
 
 
 As CEO and
 majority shareholder
 Elon Musk and his DOGE project have moved towards becoming a de facto fourth branch of the right-wing Trump administration; however, enthusiasm has cooled dramatically. Protests at Tesla dealerships have cropped up across America. Secondary market values have cratered. Calls to trade in Teslas have mounted.
 
 
 It is time for me to definitively answer all those strangers’ questions about Tesla: I don’t think they’re a good buy, and I think there’s a strong case to sell one you own right now.
 
 <h2>
 The Case Against A New Tesla
 </h2>
 
 Tesla’s first four mass-production models—the full-size luxury sedan Model S, the large gullwing-doored Model X SUV, the affordable midsize sedan Model 3 and the Model Y crossover that followed it—were unrivaled in the EV market when they first launched.
 
 
 But in the past half a decade, Tesla’s competitive advantage has narrowed from a seemingly uncrossable chasm to a sliver at best. When the Tesla Model 3 hit the market in 2017, the best-selling EV in history
 was the Nissan Leaf
 . That relatively goofy-looking, economy-minded hatchback had an EPA-rated 107 miles of range.
 
 
 Then the Model
 arrived
 With an unprecedented maximum range of 310 miles, it stood out initially. For several years now, the Model Y has been the benchmark for crossovers in the worldwide electric vehicle market.
 
 
 However, this lead has narrowed significantly today, falling within the margin of error. To illustrate with an actual scenario, consider the farthest-reaching version of the
 upcoming 2025 Tesla Model Y
 boasts an EPA-estimated range of 339 miles;
 2025 Kia EV6
 in its long-distance guise should target 319 miles.) When you account for the fact that Tesla had, for years, suppressed complaints about its overly optimistic in-car range figures, and used unusual testing strategies to
 raise its EPA estimates
 , that 20 miles of extra range is a lot less consequential. In
 real-world tests by
 Edmunds
 , the vast majority of Teslas failed to reach their EPA estimated range, even though the vast majority of EVs from other brands that
 Edmunds
 tested exceeded their EPA estimates.
 
 
 Many other auto manufacturers are also future-proofing their EVs for longevity—while Tesla continues on with relatively unchanged architecture. All of Tesla’s EVs are built on 400-volt underpinnings, while other manufacturers—including Hyundai and Kia, and now Volvo, Audi and Porsche, among others—have moved to an
 800-volt system
 . This means they can handle more electricity at once and charge more quickly. Implementing a lower-voltage system saves the company money up front, but it means that its components
 reach higher temperatures
 during fast charging or high-speed antics. This leads to further battery and range degradation over the long term.
 
 
 Tesla also has a less-than-stellar safety history. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has
 opened
 several
 probes
 into Tesla primarily because of its "Full Self-Driving" feature. The carmaker’s associated "Autopilot" technology has reportedly contributed to accidents resulting in 54 injuries and 14 fatalities, as stated.

 The latest offering from the company, the Cybertruck, has encountered
 several rounds of recalls
 at figures significantly above the industry norm. (The latest recall was related to a concern that the
 Body panels would come loose while driving.
 .) Additionally, the lack of easily accessible physical door linkages on most Teslas has been implicated
 in a variety
 of high-profile
 fatalities
 . Concerningly, despite stellar crash-test ratings, Teslas are involved in fatal accidents more often than any other brand, at a
 rate nearly twice the average
 .
 
 
 Financially, the decision between many other EVs and Tesla remains a wash. To continue our example, the new U.S.-made Kia EV6 and the Tesla Model Y should be eligible for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit. While the future of that incentive is very unclear, at the time of this writing, the equivalent long-range Kia is estimated to be slightly
 less expensive
 , by about $2,000. There are similarly close comparisons for every vehicle Tesla currently makes.
 
 
 Given the presence of U.S.-based electric vehicle manufacturers like Lucid and Rivian, along with entries from major brands such as Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ford, Jeep, RAM, and Dodge into theEV market, consumers now have numerous local options for going electric without needing to opt for gasoline vehicles. From my perspective as an auto evaluator, it's important to highlight that I've discovered
 Most electric vehicles on the market tend to be superior automobiles.
 They provide a better ride with more intuitive features and greater specialization across all levels of the market. In fact, I often recommend the EV6 to newcomers shopping for an affordably priced crossover.
 
 
 Using the Tesla Supercharger network
 more receptive to electric vehicles from brands other than Tesla
 Indeed, it has never been simpler to bypass the Tesla dealership and explore other options.

 The Pragmatic Case To Sell Your Tesla
 </h2>
 
 The main reason to sell now is that Teslas are shedding value at obscene rates and are likely to skyrocket in operating costs. EVs have long suffered from poor resale value, but Teslas have
 outpaced that trend
 for the past year and a half. Until the inauguration, this was largely thanks to the company’s use of aggressive discounting to move new inventory, combined with large rental fleets, like
 Hertz dumping tens of thousands of cars
 on the market at once.
 
 
 The situation has only worsened since President Donald Trump’s re-election win. Musk’s $290 million in Republican campaign support and his advisory role to the president have made him a lightning rod for criticism. This has been catastrophic for Tesla.
 
 
 Tesla, for years, did not advertise its cars. It instead relied on word-of-mouth, media coverage, and Musk’s massive personal platform, making him a figurehead of Tesla in a way that, say, Mary Barra of General Motors is not. Combined with the fact that Musk is Tesla’s single-largest shareholder and derives roughly one-third of his $303 billion in net worth from Tesla stock, Tesla is now indelibly associated with the billionaire. (The massive crop of
 “I Bought This Before He Went Crazy” stickers
 is evidence of that.)
 
 
 Even though Musk holds right-wing beliefs, Tesla and electric vehicle owners Nonetheless
 skew more Democratic
 And they are more progressive than drivers of any other brand, which makes them more susceptible to abandoning their vehicles due to political pressure.
 
 
 Edmunds
 found that buyers searching for new cars are also, increasingly, walking away from Teslas—just 1.8% of surveyed buyers are shopping for one compared with 3.3% as recently as November. It’s unlikely that right-wing buyers will show up in droves to replace cratering demand, even as Musk gains favorability among Republicans, as Republicans are
 vastly less likely
 to buy an EV for their next vehicle.
 
 
 Concerningly for current owners, as values collapse further, new Teslas will become comparatively worse deals. Due to Tesla’s direct-sales model, it has a much stronger incentive to move inventory than most other automakers, which makes further fire sale incentives likely—and risks creating a negative feedback loop.
 
 
 Even worse for current owners, it may not even be a wise financial choice to sit on a rapidly depreciating Tesla. Tesla insurance rates have long been
 well above average
 , with premiums coming in somewhere
 between an average Aston Martin and an average Porsche policy
 This can be attributed to limited spare part availability, a scarcity of skilled technicians, and
 complex repairs
 .
 
 
 As symbols of the Trump administration, Musk and Tesla have attracted significant attention, turning Teslas into targets for vandalism. Insurers caution that this trend might lead to increased insurance premiums. Meanwhile, the U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi, has warned that vandals targeting Teslas could face consequences.

This high level of vertical integration sets Tesla apart from conventional automobile companies.
 
 
 The company's direct-sales approach implies that when cost-cutting measures become necessary, there are no third-party dealerships from competing brands available to share the financial load. The business must generate sufficient car sales to sustain its own facilities, including outlets and service centers which it fully owns; otherwise, these locations will have to be shut down. A consistent supply of components and maintenance services relies heavily on the ongoing success of the company itself. Despite potential improvements in U.S. market sales, Tesla presently confronts significant challenges domestically as well.
