 What makes kids hesitant to share what happened during their day, and how might you prompt them for more specifics?

 It could appear straightforward, yet providing an honest reply to "How was your day at school?" demands significant effort and judgment to condense experiences from a hectic day. Children might also shy away from answering if they believe their parents' reaction could be one of anger, concern, or bewilderment.


 Kids tend to feel hungry and exhausted right after school. Their primary thought often revolves around having a snack before engaging in conversation. Considering psychologist Abraham Maslow’s well-known hierarchy of needs, particularly his concept of the "
 hierarchy of needs
 ", basic needs such as hunger should be satisfied before focusing on communication and connection.


 Children have likewise not completely developed an
 theory of mind
 (An ability to empathize with what someone else may be thinking). As such, they could struggle to grasp why their parent is inquiring about school or exactly what information their parent is seeking.

 Rather than questioning your child immediately after school, you might want to wait. More meaningful discussions could occur once they've unwound from their day by playing a favorite game and having a snack, perhaps during dinner or maybe even the following morning on the way to school.


 Consider establishing a ritual such as the "rose dinner" to assist your child in formulating their response. During this mealtime conversation, each person at the table recounts their day’s "thorn" (a challenging or bothersome event) followed by their "petal" (an enjoyable moment).


 
 3. Consider the space:
 
 Direct interactions can induce stress and seem akin to being interrogated. That's why it's typical for therapists to position their seating at a subtle angle, fostering a serene environment that makes it simpler to share challenging matters.

 My spouse and I share the same age, and together we have a little girl who just turned one. After spending a full year at home looking after her, I recently went back to work two months ago. During weekdays, she stays with my in-laws in another town, but we reunite as a family over the weekend. At present, once our child reaches 15 months of age, I aspire to welcome her into our own household again. Despite how much they adore her, I feel strongly that being brought up by her birth parents will benefit her growth more effectively.


 Sadly, I have no supporters for my viewpoint apart from my younger sister. At present, we're living in a rented house, and my spouse believes it would be better for our daughter to reside with his parents, as their home offers ample room and cleaner surroundings. His mother wishes for her to remain there until she reaches an age suitable for starting school. Both of my parents concur with this arrangement, and even my brother-in-law has recommended keeping things unchanged until our child turns around three when she will likely develop clearer communication skills.


 If I go ahead and bring her home, nobody can prevent me from doing so, yet it would disturb quite a few individuals and result in idle talk. Whenever I come to see our daughter, she becomes very attached to me, making it necessary for me to leave discreetly to avoid being noticed. This situation tears at my emotions each time I face this choice.


 Another concern is our financial situation. I teach and earn around VND11-12 million a month, with breakfast and lunch provided at work. My husband works in maintenance for electricity and water, earning VND12 million a month.


 He says that’s his salary, but I’ve never seen his pay slip or bank account. Every month, he gives me VND7-8.5 million, keeping the rest for food and transportation. I used to work extra at a teaching center in the evenings, but since extra tutoring was banned, I stopped. Adding the VND3-4 million I send to my in-laws for my daughter’s care, there’s nothing left at the end of the month.


 I really want to increase my income, maybe start selling something in the evenings, but I lack experience and am afraid to try. I’ve told my husband that if his salary is really VND12 million,
 he should quit his job
 And look for something more profitable. Given that income, along with the depreciation of his motorcycle due to working at construction sites, it simply isn’t sufficient.

That’s not to say you should indulge their every whim or buy everything they ask for. This is about listening, letting them know it’s OK to want things, then making and explaining your decision.

 Kids who grow up relying on the outside world for validation can be "very empty and very fragile [and] very, very anxious," Kennedy said. "What's really helpful down the road is when you produce something — maybe it's art, maybe it's a [work] project — and being able to give yourself some estimation of that before others do is very helpful to your whole self-concept and protective of anxiety and depression."

I am making efforts to remain more composed—so even when upset, I aim to speak with a gentler tone. For all these reasons, I apologize."


 She stated that informing children that your outbursts are never their responsibility should not excuse them from facing consequences of inappropriate or rude conduct. Rather, this approach aims to convey that they do not bear accountability for another person’s behaviors, whether positive or negative.


 "I get frustrated when my child isn’t listening and the morning gets pushed back,” explained Kennedy, further stating: “Saying something like ‘You force me to raise my voice; you transform me into a beast’ essentially holds your child accountable for your ability to handle your emotions.”


 Parents who tend to have sudden emotional eruptions should try identifying what causes their irritation, allowing them to pause and control themselves before raising their voice, as suggested by Kennedy. They could also inform their children: "I’m feeling upset right now. I’ll take a moment to breathe and will return shortly," she advised.


 Controlling your emotions around your kids might be challenging, yet exerting greater command over them during tough moments proves to be highly beneficial in the end.

 2. Kenali Penyebab Tantrum

 Ter frustrasi: Mungkin anak mengalami kendala dalam menyampaikan kebutuhannya atau beradaptasi dengan kondisi yang belum dikenali sebelumnya.




 Jika tantrum muncul guna memperoleh pengakuan, usahakan untuk menghadirkan fokus tambahan saat momen yang sesuai.


 
 3. Hindari Mengalah pada Persyaratan yang Tak Wajar
 


 Apabila si kecil mengamuk lantaran menuntut hal yang tak kamu setujui, pertahankan pendirianmu secara konsisten.


 Sampaikan penjelasannya dengan nada yang lembut, contohnya, "Ibu mengerti kau pengin permen, tetapi saat ini jam makannmu untuk sarapan atau makan siang."


 
 4. Alihkan Perhatian
 


 Usahakan untuk memindahkan fokus si kecil kepada hal lain yang menyenangkan, contohnya mainan favoritnya, sebuah buku, ataupun suatu kegiatan yang dia sukai.


 
 5. Validasi Perasaan Anak
