 She stated that informing children that your outbursts are never their responsibility should not excuse them from facing consequences of inappropriate or rude conduct. Rather, this approach aims to convey that they do not bear accountability for another person’s behaviors, whether positive or negative.


 "I get frustrated when my child isn’t listening and the morning gets pushed back,” explained Kennedy, further stating: “Saying something like ‘You force me to raise my voice; you transform me into a beast’ essentially holds your child accountable for your ability to handle your emotions.”


 Parents who tend to have sudden emotional eruptions should try identifying what causes their irritation, allowing them to pause and control themselves before raising their voice, as suggested by Kennedy. They could also inform their children: "I’m feeling upset right now. I’ll take a moment to breathe and will return shortly," she advised.

 PERTH () – Inside the command center of the US Navy’s Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Minnesota, stationed off the western coastline of Australia, sonar technicians are adapting to the sounds of dolphins in unfamiliar waters as the area anticipates an increased presence of American submarines.

 During a training mission from its homeport in Guam, USS Minnesota leads the way for four Virginia-class submarines that will be stationed at a Western Australian naval base starting in 2027 as part of the AUKUS agreement aimed at transferring nuclear-powered submarine capabilities to Australia.

 The commanding officer, Jeffrey Corneille, states that the Virginia-class submarine is "the most technologically advanced naval vessel globally."

 Around 50-80 United States navy personnel will arrive by the middle of the year at Western Australia's HMAS Stirling base, which is undergoing an A$8 billion ($5 billion) upgrade to prepare for the "Submarine Rotational Force West", Australian officials have said.


 Within two years, these figures will balloon to include hundreds of U.S. Navy personnel and support staff.


 Peter Dean, who leads Foreign Policy and Defence studies at the University of Sydney’s United States Studies Centre, noted that the positioning of HMAS Stirling, which is nearer to Asia and the Indian Ocean compared to the U.S. Pacific Fleet base in Hawaii, holds significant strategic importance for the United States.


 He stated that protecting the Indian Ocean from China’s growing capabilities and influence is crucial.


 The Virginia submarine program has received an exemption from the Pentagon’s budget reductions because the Trump administration is shifting its focus away from the Middle East and Europe towards the Indo-Pacific region, according to him.


 The third-highest-ranking Pentagon official during the Trump administration, Elbridge Colby, stated at a recent U.S. Senate confirmation hearing that attack submarines are “crucially important” for ensuring the defense of Taiwan remains feasible. He emphasized that production levels should be increased initially to address American requirements and also to uphold commitments to supply submarines to Australia as part of the AUKUS agreement.

 In November, the USS Minnesota relocated its home port from Hawaii to Guam, a U.S. Pacific territory nearer to Taiwan and close to the sole forward-deployed U.S. submarine base.


 Australian authorities have pointed out that a Chinese naval fleet which sailed around Australia in February and March, conducting unusual live-fire exercises near the eastern coast that interfered with regular flights, then moved past Western Australia simultaneously with the arrival of the USS Minnesota at a port facility, underscores Beijing’s intention to increase its presence regularly within the region surrounding Australia.

 However, once the planet’s wealthiest individual showed interest in the competition, attention surged, leading to demonstrations on Sunday that attracted sizable groups of participants.


 Technology tycoon and controversial political figure Elon Musk, who is closely aligned with President Donald Trump, has invested significantly in the Tuesday elections, aiming for a victory favoring conservative candidates.


 The progressive contender, 60-year-old Susan Crawford, was running her campaign through traditional means by speaking to a gathering at an antique store event on a wet Sunday morning.


 "So Elon Musk, folks, that guy, right? He has now spent more than $25 million, it goes up every day," Crawford told the crowd.


 "He's working as the unelected right-hand man to the president. He's got an agenda."


 If Crawford's Republican-backed opponent, Brad Schimel, beats her, he will tip the balance on the Wisconsin court to the right.


 Once every four years Wisconsin -- home to six million people and mainly known for beer and cheese production -- becomes a vital swing state in a presidential election.

</h2>

 And if the conduct or result of that poll are challenged, it is the Wisconsin Supreme Court that will have to rule on that.


 Musk's support for Schimel could, therefore, be a political game-changer.


 But at small-town rallies, the South African-born oligarch's eruption into Wisconsin's affairs seems to have provoked as much resistance as support.


 Rob Patterson, a 65-year-old retired electrical engineer, came to a rally in Crawford with a sign showing Musk giving a straight-armed salute.

 Once Trump returned to the White House he invited his sponsor to head a new cost-cutting agency named after an internet meme: the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.


 Within a few weeks, Musk has swiftly dismissed or put on hold the work of tens of thousands of federal employees, slashed foreign aid funding, and started the process of dissolving multiple government agencies.


 "It's like a bull in a china shop. He has no idea what he's doing," complained Patterson.


 Outside a supermarket in Elkhorn, 70-year old retired elementary school teacher Linda Suskey says she plans to vote for Crawford to keep balance in the court.


 And she doesn't have much time for Musk's blandishments.


 "He uses his money to get what he wants, which is more money," she told AFP.


 I believe he has far too much authority, and he isn’t accountable to anyone — plus, he’s essentially manipulating situations to benefit the wealthy even more.


 These opinions are not shared by everyone. Wisconsin remains a battleground state for various reasons, and some conservative voters such as 60-year-old Matt Edler consider Musk's DOGE efforts to be "outstanding."


 "President has appointed Elon Musk... for this task. If not his, another person’s name would have served just as well, however, I believe these measures are justified," he stated.

 But Edler's not sure yet whether he will vote on Tuesday, and he said he wasn't aware of what Musk has been doing to help Schimel defeat Crawford.


 Aside from campaign donations to the conservative, Musk has promised two prize checks of $1 million each to two voters who turn out in the court race.

It took me some time to understand that this was actually meant as an abbreviation for "follow-up," not realizing initially since they didn’t use slashes between the letters. Without proper clarification, others might think you’re disrespectful or unprofessional, which could lead to problems if you’re not cautious enough.
 
 
 If you recognize that you struggle with conveying certain messages effectively, inform your colleagues accordingly by stating something along these lines: "I find it difficult to handle formalities through digital means, so kindly avoid taking offense." Although I don’t think constant preliminary chitchat is required for each engagement, when interacting via digital platforms, I would suggest initiating with a greeting before asking for assistance.

You could overlook crucial details, struggle to form connections, and appear hard to collaborate with. Such circumstances might jeopardize your position and impede your opportunities for advancement.
 
 
 Participate actively in meetings, voice your thoughts freely, and propose potential resolutions. Additionally, take brief breaks in the lounge area and make an effort to converse with several colleagues each day.  Three terms that have become frequently seen on Canadian store shelves since Donald Trump’s tariffs initiated a trade dispute with the U.S.'s neighbor to the north.


 In Canada, economic actions taken against it have sparked a surge of patriotic sentiment. Some consumers and business owners are choosing to boycott American goods as part of this response.


 Other companies operating in the US must decide whether to endure the current uncertainties or relocate their businesses domestically.


 "At present, I feel somewhat irritated. I am not inclined to put money into U.S. firms," states Joanna Goodman, who owns Au Lit Fine Linens, aToronto-based business dealing with bedding and nightwear.


 "It’s like putting all your eggs in one basket. Currently, this basket is both dangerously careless and unstable," she goes on to say.


 During a tour of one of her company’s two locations within a large warehouse, Ms. Goodman points out meticulously decorated beds, mannequins wearing luxurious silk pajamas, and rows of fragrant candles — nearly all produced in Canada.


 However, one-fifth of the inventory at present originates from the US. Ms. Goodman promptly emphasizes, “observe the size of the store; thus, even 20 percent constitutes a significant amount.”


 "She mentions that she has an extensive stock of American brands that she’s been associated with for two decades and isn’t planning to discard them." She adds, “The real query is whether I’ll place another order.”


 To demonstrate Au Lit Fine Linens' dedication to Canadian manufacturers, their stores now prominently feature products that are manufactured in Canada. This emphasis is also reflected on their website with a dedicated “shop all made in Canada” section and includes the phrase “made right here at home.”


 Amidst Houthi assaults in the Red Sea and the conflict in Ukraine, recent global occurrences have led to an emerging trend known as reshoring.


 Repatriating business processes to domestic territories marks the opposite of offshoring.

 The newly appointed Canadian Senator, Sandra Pupatello, states that bringing jobs back to Canada is "clearly necessary" for providing support.


 Pupatello, who formerly served as Ontario's Minister of Economic Development and Trade, highlights the Covid-19 pandemic, during which norms of trade were essentially discarded.


 She particularly mentions the instance of US-based mask maker 3M facing pressure from the White House in 2020.

 At that instant, Pupatello pondered, “We must brace ourselves for the worst.”


 Soon afterward, she founded Reshoring Canada, a nonpartisan organization that pushes for a stronger and more reliable supply chain within Canada.


 Pupatello states: "If things get difficult, Canada will be on its own. Knowing this, let’s prepare accordingly."

 A governmental document released by Canada in the previous year revealed that there had

 Since founding his company Rainhouse Manufacturing Canada in 2001, Ray Brougham has been attempting to break into the Canadian automotive production market. The business, located in British Columbia, produces components for various sectors.


 The automotive sector in North America has interconnected supply chains allowing components to traverse the boundaries between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada numerous times prior to a car being fully assembled.


 President Donald Trump stated that he would momentarily exempt U.S. automakers from the newly implemented 25% import duty on goods coming from Canada and Mexico, only one day following the announcement of these tariffs in March.

 For Mr. Brougham and others, the advantages of bringing manufacturing back home are evident. This shift can provide support for smaller firms that have found it hard to match the prices set by foreign producers, guarantee more equitable paychecks, and reduce the environmental impact associated with lower levels of import and export activities.


 Other individuals, such as Graham Markham who leads a food industry supplier, think this initiative revolves around enhancing the worth of goods that Canada is already manufacturing.


 His company, New Protein International based in Canada, is presently building Canada's inaugural soy protein production facility in southwestern Ontario, only a few miles away from the U.S. border.

 fourth-largest exporter
 Of this harvest, however, much of it undergoes processing abroad.


 Mr. Markham states, "We do not transform those value-added ingredients into even more valuable components within our own country."


 From crucial minerals and uranium to timber and soybeans, he contends that now is the time for transformation.


 For many years, Canada has excelled as a major provider of natural resources globally. The current challenge lies in retaining domestic job growth and fostering innovation through local processing of these materials instead of just exporting them.

 Therefore, can manufacturing begin returning to Canada? According to economist Randall Bartlett, it’s still too soon to determine.


 "Much of what we see regarding the actual restructuring and domestic relocation of supply chains appears exaggerated," states Mr. Bartlett, who serves as the senior director for Canadian economics at Quebec’s Desjardins Group.


 I believe we have seen some progress towards reshoring, however, the amount of discussion about it seems much greater than the actual restoration of manufacturing capabilities.


 There are significant obstacles as well.


 For instance, the deeply integrated automotive industry would take many years to disentangle. According to Mr. Bartlett, reshoring this industry would necessitate "a massive investment totaling tens of hundreds of billions of dollars from both private and public sectors" to become feasible.


 Next comes the truth about international commerce.


 Mr. Bartlett suggests that since certain nations excel at manufacturing specific goods compared to others, Canada should consider broadening its range of trading partners instead of fully embracing reshoring initiatives.


 He argues that Canada ought to concentrate on "sectors wherein we possess a competitive edge," mentioning specifically the realms of renewable energy as well as the refining of steel and aluminum. It’s worth noting that these particular metals—steel and aluminum—are currently subject to a 25% tariff when sent for export to the U.S.


 At Au Lit Fine Linens in Toronto, when Joanna Goodman enters the large storage area, she hears cardboard boxes being sealed up.


 She clarifies that we’re processing shipments to the US from before the tariff implementation," she says, then hesitates. "However, we did receive an order exactly on the day the tariffs went into effect, and it happened to be quite a substantial one.

 Being on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) can easily make you feel disempowered as these plans tend to be daunting and unsettling. Individuals often commit errors while under such plans, which may lead to job loss. Below are four common pitfalls to watch out for during this period.

 1. Don't get defensive
 
 </h2>
 
 The initial error individuals commit upon being placed under a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) is becoming defensive. It’s crucial to understand that arguing won’t help you escape the PIP—it cannot be undone.
 
 
 PIPs are planned out carefully rather than being spontaneous actions. Should a manager be signaling that you're facing performance issues, becoming defensive would be counterproductive.
 
 
 Suppose you're an engineer struggling with missed deadlines. Instead of saying, "The issue is that the product team failed to provide a clear specification," or, "The problem lies in reduced funding," you might approach it differently.
 
 
 Despite believing your manager might be incorrect, their input is mistaken, or you completely differ, make an effort to grasp their viewpoint.
 
 
 This doesn’t mean you won't get an opportunity to present your perspective; typically, you will have several months to discuss this with the individual who placed you under PIP supervision. Ultimately, convincing them of why you shouldn't remain on such a plan is crucial. Nonetheless, it’s important to start by listening attentively.
 
 
 Become curious and ask for input. To emerge victorious, you need to listen attentively and meet it with an open mindset.

 2. Avoid damaging your good standing

 The primary means by which individuals damage their reputation is through believing:
 
 You're right; they might fire me in about three months, but instead, I think I'll just resign now.
 
 
 
 Your supervisor could simply believe that the chemistry among team members isn’t right—yet they might continue viewing you positively. Alternatively, perhaps your firm recognizes that you’re merely in an unsuitable division. Should you be employed by a sufficiently large corporation, there could very well be other available positions where you would be more suited.

 3. Make sure to draw lessons from it
 
 </h2>
 
 While sitting on a PIP, you might believe that it cannot be fixed or is beyond repair. Despite these feelings, do not overlook the chance to enhance your performance and gain insights from the constructive criticism.
 
 
 PIPs typically include a schedule and are quite organized. Fundamentally, they create documentation explaining why your role is being phased out.
 
 
 When you receive feedback, treat it as a chance to learn. Use this moment to strengthen your skills since even if acquiring knowledge doesn’t benefit you right now, it could prove invaluable for your future position.
 
 
 Recognize that receiving feedback presents an opportunity for growth and self-improvement. While every piece of feedback holds value, failing to act upon Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) feedback could jeopardize your employment.

Reaching the age of 62 is quite significant. This often represents the conclusion of a long-term professional journey for numerous individuals. Additionally, this age brings with it access to Social Security benefits, which serve as an essential financial resource for many who have retired.


 Applying for Social Security benefits is a significant choice, one that can be hard to reverse. Should you be thinking about filing for benefits in 2025, there are several points you should keep in mind.

 1. You cannot apply for benefits unless you have reached your full 62nd birthday for the complete month.
</h2>

 You can file for Social Security benefits up to four months prior to when you intend to start receiving them, though most individuals become eligible after reaching age 62. The rules state that you have to reach your full 62nd year—meaning the entirety of that birth month—to qualify for benefit payments.


 Should you have been born on either the 1st or the 2nd day of any month, your birth month itself marks when you become eligible for Social Security benefits. However, if your birthday falls on any other date within the month, you must wait until the following month to start claiming these benefits.


 Remember that the Social Security Administration releases payments in the month following their scheduled date. So, if you reach age 62 on March 21, 2025, you will not qualify for benefits until April 2025, with your initial payment arriving in May 2025.


 Moreover, the date during the month when you receive your payments relies on the birthdate as outlined below:

 So in our example, you might turn 62 on March 21, 2025, but you won't actually receive your first check until May 28, 2025. You'll need other income sources to cover your expenses until then.

 2. Claiming at 62 could permanently reduce your benefit
</h2>

 Claiming Social Security at any point under your
 full retirement age (FRA)
 reduces your monthly checks. Your FRA depends on your birth year, but it will be somewhere between 66 and 67.


 You lose five-ninths of 1% per month for your first 36 months of early claiming. If you apply even earlier, you lose another five-twelfths of 1% per month. That means those who apply immediately at 62 reduce their monthly checks by 25% if their FRA is 66, or 30% if their FRA is 67. That's enough to drop the $1,967 average monthly benefit in 2025 to as low as $1,377 per month.


 This doesn't mean claiming early is always the wrong choice. It might be your best move if you have a short life expectancy or don't have enough other income to make ends meet. But if neither of these issues apply to you,
 delaying Social Security will likely lead to a larger lifetime benefit
 .


 And you don't have to stop at your FRA, either. You can continue to grow your checks past your FRA by two-thirds of 1% per month until you qualify for your maximum benefit at 70.

 3. You could reduce the survivors benefits available to your family members
</h2>

 Social Security survivors benefits are available to your spouse and dependents after you pass away. If you weren't already claiming Social Security, they're based on the relationship of the family member and your primary insurance amount (PIA) -- the benefit you're entitled to at your FRA. But if you were actively claiming benefits, your family's survivors benefits are based on the amount you received instead.


 If you claim early, you're not only reducing the size of your own monthly checks, but you're also shrinking the amount your family will get after you pass away. For this reason, you may prefer to hold off on claiming Social Security if you don't need the money right away.


 Note that the rules for survivors benefits differ from those of
 spousal benefits
 . With spousal benefits, the spouse's maximum benefit is always one-half of the worker's PIA, regardless of when the worker applies for Social Security. However, the spouse can't claim a spousal benefit until the worker has signed up. Also, if the spouse claims benefits under their own FRA, they could reduce their own checks.


 If you have any questions about your Social Security benefits, it's smart to clarify these with online research or by reaching out to the Social Security Administration before you apply. It's possible to undo your Social Security claim within the first 12 months if you change your mind. But you'd have to pay back all the benefits you'd already received. This is tough for most people to do, so it's best to wait to sign up until you're confident you're ready.
