 その名も「ととのうパンツ」。これはズボンであって、下着ではない。直接身に着けられるのが特徴で、日本伝統のふんどしの構造を参考にした、特殊な裏地を施している。


 就寝時に身体が感じる肌着のストレスを緩和し、眠りの質を高める商品として、2022年度のグッドデザイン賞（日本デザイン振興会主催）にも選ばれた。これまで約1万着を売り上げている。


 中川ケイジさん（48）はその開発者で、ナイトウェアの販売を手がける有限会社「プラスチャーミング」（本社・東京）を経営している。全国にふんどしの良さをPRする「日本ふんどし協会」会長も務めている。


 「商品を通して、笑顔になったり、誰かとのコミュニケーションのきっかけになったり。機能以上に価値のあるものを作り出すことがモットーです」と語る。


 製造は、東日本大震災から復興した福島県田村市の縫製会社などに委託している。


 会社に従業員はいないため、妻の実家がある縁で15年に移住した水戸市を開発拠点に、東京・新宿の伊勢丹など、全国の百貨店の店頭に自ら立ち、売り歩くことも少なくない。


 起業のきっかけは、34歳の時に患った、うつ病の闘病経験にある。


 兵庫県芦屋市出身で、大学卒業後は美容師として働いたり、親族が経営する会社で営業職を担当したりしていた。就職氷河期の世代。「大学を出ていても、仕事を選ぶこと自体が難しかった」と振り返る。


 ただ5年勤めた営業職は肌に合わず、11年春にうつ病を患った。医師から半年間の療養を言い渡されたが、睡眠障害の症状がひどく、精神的にも追い詰められていった。


 そんな時、以前に営業先で知り合った人から「はいてみなよ」と、プレゼントされたのが「越中ふんどし」だった。


 それまでふんどしを身に着けたことはなく、「男性が祭りに着る露出の多い格好」というイメージだった。


 ただ着てみると、越中ふんどしは前垂れが長く、臀部（でんぶ）まで隠すことができて、恥ずかしさもなかった。それ以上に、従来の下着よりも身体への圧迫感がなく、久しぶりにリラックスして寝ることができた。


 「心が軽くなって、前向きに生きようという気持ちになれた」と同時に、ふんどしを「寝具として生かせないか。今度こそ、やりたいことをやってみよう」。そう考えるようになった。


 11年12月、会社を立ち上げるとともに、彩りや肌触りにこだわった、男性でも女性でも使えるおしゃれなふんどし「しゃれふん」のブランドを立ち上げ、開発を始めた。21年には、「ととのうパンツ」の販売も始めた。


 ふんどしへの抵抗感を感じる人は「まだまだ多い」と話すが、しゃれふんの購入者の8割ほどは女性だという。


 今後は、国内の大学などと連携し、さらに睡眠の質を高めるための研究にも取り組む予定だ。「より良い眠りを体験できる。そんな商品をこれからも作っていきたい」と話す。（古庄暢）

 "With more extreme weather expected in the future, there might be more concentrated rainfall during rainy seasons, which will require higher drainage capacity for slopes," said Lawrence Shum Ka-wah, deputy head of the Geotechnical Engineering Office on Hong Kong Island.

 Kuhn pointed out that you can calculate how much you’re saving on taxes — assuming you live in a state that does not tax Social Security benefits — by looking up the effective rate of tax you paid to your state for all taxed income sources and applying that to your total Social Security benefits.


 "For instance, if your effective tax rate in your state was 5% and you received $30,000 in Social Security benefits, this would result in savings of $1,500," explained Kuhn.


 This rule, however, doesn’t cover every scenario. Even within states where Social Security income is taxable, not everybody faces the complete tax burden. Take Colorado as an instance; people aged 65 years and above could exempt federal taxes on their Social Security from state taxation starting in 2022. By 2025, this total exemption will extend to those between 55 and 64 years old whose yearly adjusted gross incomes do not exceed $75,000 individually or $95,000 collectively when married and filing jointly.

 それでは、実際に500-LAN6KC03を使ってみましょう。今回はWi-Fiや有線LAN端子直挿しの速度の違いも計測するため、有線LAN端子を装備するdynabook（Windows 11）を使用。また、ネット環境は光回線の1Gbpsとなっています。


 500-LAN6KC03の接続で悩むことはありません。まず、有線LAN端子をWi-Fiルーターなどに接続して、反対側のUSB-C端子をノートパソコン側に挿すだけ。これだけでドライバなどをインストールすることなく、数秒後にはすぐにネットに接続されます。


 ノートパソコンでChromeを起動して「インターネット回線の速度テスト（Fast.com）」を使ってネットの速度を計測したところ、実測値は平均570Mbpsでした。有線LAN直挿しの場合は平均730Mbpsでしたので、少し速度は落ちましたが実用上は何も困らないレベルでしょう。


 ちなみに、Wi-Fiは11ac（5GHz）での接続になりますが、平均が400Mbps程度でした。これなら500-LAN6KC03を使うメリットは十分ありそうですね。

 最近のAndroidやiPhone 15以降では充電端子がUSB-Cになっており、ほとんどの場合OTG機能に対応していますので、500-LAN6KC03が使えるかもしれません。


 ちなみに、OTG（USB On-The-Go）機能とは、USB機器同士を直接接続して使用できるようにする規格のこと。USB-C接続のマウスやSDカードリーダーといったPC周辺機器も、意外とUSB-Cに接続してスマホでも使えることが多いのです。


 そこで、まずはAndroidスマホに500-LAN6KC03を接続してみましょう。今回はOPPOを使用したので設定からOTGをオンにしないと認識しませんが、AQUOSやXpeiaなどは自動的に認識されるのですぐに使えます。


 その結果はWi-Fi接続時が380Mbpsなのに対し、500-LAN6KC03接続時は330Mbpsでした。まあ、これはほとんど誤差の範囲でしょう。

 BOAC: 1940-1974
</h2>

 In May 1952, The British Overseas Airways Corporation spearheaded the dawn of the modern jet era and eventually transformed into "the world's favorite airline" —British Airways.
 BOAC de Havilland Comets
 A four-engine airplane roughly the same size as a Boeing 737 departed from London, making stops in Nairobi en route to Johannesburg, and then traveling through Southeast Asia before reaching Tokyo. Each leg carried 44 passengers. These flights marked the beginning of regular international commercial jet routes.


 Six years afterward, the company succeeding Imperial Airways achieved yet another "first". On October 4, 1958, BOAC launched flights using their De Havilland Comet 4, traveling from London to New York's Idlewild Airport, which is now known as JFK. This marked the start of the transatlantic jet era. By the end of the 1950s, BOAC boasted being the "worldwide airline," serving destinations across all continents excluding Antarctica.

 Even though it may seem otherwise, air travel hasn’t ever been more affordable due to the emergence of budget airlines. Companies such as Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz Air trace their roots back to Southwest, which is currently the largest discount carrier in America. Interestingly enough, Southwest itself can attribute its beginnings to a California startup known as Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA). According to Herb Kelleher, who started Southwest, the creation of PSA played an essential role in his decision to establish Southwest. But what exactly made PSA significant and how did it leave such an impact?


 On May 6, 1949, it made its maiden flight. A rented Douglas DC-3 plane left San Diego Airport, formerly called Lindbergh Field, carrying 24 passengers to Oakland Airport with a stop at Hollywood Burbank Airport along the way. The company’s founder, Kenny Friedkin, capitalized on the fact that since they were an intra-California air carrier, they weren’t bound by U.S. federal price controls, which allowed them to reduce ticket costs.


 He provided nothing extra. There wasn’t a dedicated branded registration zone at airports, and luggage was measured with basic home scales. The service included just one travel class and utilized only one kind of airplane—an idea later adopted by every contemporary budget airline. Within its inaugural year, PSA became profitable.

Recognizing this shift, PSA expanded its reach outside of California, adding routes to cities such as Reno, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. To prepare for significant growth, PSA placed an order for specially adapted Lockheed L-1011 wide-body aircraft.


 In 1986, USAir, which would later be renamed US Airways, purchased the airline for $400 million. By 1988, PSA had been fully absorbed into the expanded company. However, the effective business strategy employed back then has become standard practice nowadays for short-distance airlines globally, even being adopted by certain companies like British Airways who might have benefited from understanding this approach earlier.

</h2>

 Three decades back, Emirates was an unfamiliar entity to most, and locating tiny Dubai on a globe was a challenge for many. During this period, British Airways stood at the pinnacle of global aviation, outpacing all competitors in terms of international passenger traffic. The transformation since then has been remarkable. Hudson believes that first-class direct flights to Sydney will become the pinnacle of prestige in aviation — "the modern-day Concorde."  The Expanse
 first premiered almost a decade ago in 2015, based on the novels of the same name by
 James S. A. Corey
 .


 In a tale set 200 years in the future, in which humans have colonised the solar system, the search for a missing woman results in an enormous conspiracy being unravelled.


 The first three seasons of the drama aired on the American TV channel
 SyFy
 , before moving to
 Amazon Prime Video
 for the final three seasons ahead of its finale in 2022.


 It’s a show that viewers can’t stop raving about, but there’s a slight catch if you’re hoping to get into it now.


 Last month, streaming platform Amazon Prime removed seasons one to three from its site.


 Seasons four, five and six are still available for you to sink your teeth into, which is great news for die-hard fans of the latter episodes.


 However, for those hoping to start watching from the beginning, it seems rights issues are going to cause problems unless you have an Apple TV Plus subscription, where seasons one to three can be streamed for a monthly fee.


 But never fear, because if you aren’t sworn off physical media, there’s still hope, as all seasons are available on Blu-ray, with a complete set released in late 2023.


 And from what the reviews say, it’s a purchase that might just be worth making.


 As well as its near-perfect critics’ score, The Expanse has an impressive 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes.


 There, audience members use adjectives such as ‘unpredictable’ and epic’ to describe it, even comparing it to fantasy greats like Game of Thrones.

 Viewers have also heaped praise on it across social media, taking to X to brand it ‘one of the best sci-fi TV shows’ not just of current times, but ‘ever’.


 ‘If you haven’t watched The Expanse on Amazon Prime do yourself a favour and watch it!’ @ThayCallMeMonty wrote. ‘A hidden gem that one day people are going to wake up to and say it’s one of the best sci-fi TV shows ever!’


 @LiamRudden mentioned they had just completed watching the initial three seasons and referred to it as 'one of the finest science fiction series in quite some time'.

 'I’m thrilled I still have three more seasons to look forward to,' they mentioned additionally.


 In the meantime, @kalina_kangaroo confessed they weren't eager to relive their initial experience of watching The Expanse due to knowing that revisiting the show would 'amaze them all over again,' which certainly speaks volumes about its quality.


 Long-time fans are still holding out hope for more episodes in the future, given that Amazon didn’t finish adapting all the books.

 People talk about their adoration for grocery store chains like Aldi and Trader Joe's, but you will need to rip my Costco card from my cold, dead hands. I adore Costco. I go there at least twice a month, if not every week. I
 stock my pantry
 with mostly Costco products. Peek into my fridge and you’ll find that most of
 my cheese
 was purchased there. If I’m pressed for time, I rely on the
 frozen foods
 that are always staples on my Costco list to help me get dinner on the table fast.


 A lot of the products I buy from Costco are its store-brand, Kirkland Signature, including olive oil, nuts, feta cheese, even my daughter’s favorite leggings. But there are plenty of Kirkland-brand items I push my shopping cart right past as I peruse the aisles.


 On my last trip, I decided to give five new-to-me Kirkland Signature products a try. And four of them were so good, they’ve gained permanent spots in my home.

We’ve enjoyed it sauced (with Rao’s from Costco, of course) and in broth along with chopped veggies, and both were delicious meals. I've even started turning half of the package into tortelloni salad for our daughter's school lunch.  While I do typically buy frozen fish at Costco, I haven’t bought any of their seasoned or breaded fish before. And while I like everything bagel seasoning fine enough, I wasn’t as into it as other people were a few years ago when the mix was at the peak of its popularity. Still, the Everything Bagel Seasoned Cod intrigued me. And after we had it once, I will always have it in my freezer until it’s no longer available. I cooked it in my
 toaster oven air fryer
 from frozen, and it came out crispy and delicious less than 15 minutes later. We ate it with roasted potatoes and a salad, but I’m really looking forward to turning the fillets into fish sandwiches.

And ever since, it’s been a dinner we make at least once a month. These Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks from Costco will be my go-to for that dinner from now on.  I’m no stranger to cauliflower-crust pizza. My husband avoided gluten for several years, and Milton’s Roasted Vegetable Cauliflower Crust pizza (which can also be found at Costco) was his favorite. So much so that we still buy it. I decided to give the Kirkland Signature Supreme Cauliflower Crust Pizza a try, and it was just as good. It’s covered with a generous amount of veggies, including peppers, zucchini and mushrooms, plus sausage and pepperoni. It was very savory and the crust was sturdy like a regular pizza crust. I like to pair it with a simple salad or crudités and ranch. One-quarter of the pizza packs 900 milligrams of sodium, but we only eat this once or twice a month and keep the sodium of our other meals in check otherwise.
